Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 939: Chapter 939 Emergency Situation

”The patient in bed three, sudden convulsions, rapid breathing, his entire body has broken out in raised red rashes!”

Ruan Fangfang was deep in sleep when she heard the nurse’s shout and suddenly jumped up from the table, ”Quickly go wake up Teacher Ma!”

”I tried just now! The door is locked tight, and I’ve been knocking for ages with no response from Teacher Ma,” the nurse said in a panic, ”Dr. Lu had left before ten o’clock after finishing the last surgery.”

”How long has the patient been in this condition?” An Hao asked as she stood up.

”He’s the one who just had the heart surgery. He is still receiving IV antibiotics. Everything was fine when we started with the first set of fluids, but after switching to the second set, this condition developed.”

”Sounds like an allergic reaction to the medication, hurry and take me to see him,” An Hao said while turning to Ruan Fangfang, ”You go quickly and wake up Teacher Ma!”

”Okay!” Ruan Fangfang rushed to the on-call doctor’s door and began forcefully pounding on it.

Before going to bed, Ma Mei had instructed Fangfang to make sure to wake her because she had taken a sleeping pill.

Despite Ruan Fangfang’s vigorous knocking, Ma Mei seemed not to hear anything.

Ruan Fangfang was terrified and, not caring about the consequences, kicked the door open.

She barged into the on-call room and started to slap Ma Mei forcefully.

........................

After entering the ward with the nurse, An Hao quickly examined the patient’s condition, confirming her earlier judgment: ”Indeed, it’s an allergic reaction to the medication.”

So, she quickly stopped the IV fluids and urgently said to the nurse, ”Keep this fluid for testing! Administer dexamethasone 0.3~0.5mg/kg IV and promethazine 0.5~1mg/kg IM, quickly treat the itching!”

”Should we wait for Ma...” the nurse asked.

”No need to wait,” An Hao pulled the nurse out of the room, ”Even though I’m still an intern, we can’t delay a single moment with this kind of situation! The patient is having an acute allergic reaction! If you dither, his life will be left in the balance here.”

”But... what if something goes wrong,” the nurse was already scared.

”There will absolutely be no problem. Trust me, I am very confident about this matter!” said An Hao.

”Okay.” The nurse quickly fetched the medication and administered it to the patient according to the doctor’s orders.

Soon after the medication was administered, the patient’s condition greatly improved.

Watching the patient stabilize, An Hao also breathed a sigh of relief. At that moment, she felt the burden of being a doctor was very heavy.

Ruan Fangfang, exerting immense effort, managed to wake Ma Mei. Hearing about the situation, Ma Mei was also startled and quickly grabbed her stethoscope and ran to the ward.

The patient had just come off the operating table not long before, having undergone open-heart surgery, and was now receiving anti-inflammatory treatment.

Normally, this would be absolutely ordinary, but who could have expected that just by sleeping, such a situation would occur!

Listening to Ruan Fangfang’s recent account, the situation was probably due to an allergic reaction to the medication.

Ma Mei was now extremely nervous. If the patient had died, her career would have been ruined, and she might have been discharged from the military for dereliction of duty and faced the corresponding consequences.

When Ma Mei and Ruan Fangfang arrived at the ward, the patient’s condition had already stabilized.

Seeing that everything was safe, Ma Mei breathed a sigh of relief, and her legs went weak.

If it weren’t for Ruan Fangfang supporting her from behind, she might have fainted right there in the ward.
