Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 917: Chapter 917: The Education of a Slap

”You’ve spoiled these two kids rotten. They don’t understand the first thing about propriety or manners. It’s been lawlessness from start to finish!” Cheng Nanfang suppressed the raging fury in his chest.

”What are you talking about? Suddenly you’re coming at me with accusations.” Qi Siyuan ripped off her apron and threw it onto the table, ”Who on earth did you talk to over the phone? The kids are leaving tomorrow, can’t we just have a pleasant meal for once?”

”I talked to Ning Yibin on the phone,” Cheng Nanfang’s stern gaze shifted towards Cheng Yu, ”Do you know who he is?”

Feeling a sudden jolt of anxiety at her father’s question, Cheng Yu knew she was in trouble.

Of course, she knew who Ning Yibin was.

”The Commander of the Northern Military Region,” said Cheng Yu.

”What else?”

Under Cheng Nanfang’s piercing gaze, Cheng Yu lowered her head, ”I’m not sure.”

”He is Qin Jian’s father. You couldn’t possibly be unaware of that, right?” Cheng Nanfang suddenly stood up, hands clasped behind his back, pacing restlessly around the living room.

”Who is Qin Jian?” asked Qi Siyuan.

”This doesn’t concern you, so keep your mouth shut!” Cheng Nanfang bellowed at her and asked Cheng Yu once again, ”You can’t possibly be unaware of who Qin Jian is, right? What exactly have you been up to this vacation?”

”Old Cheng, what is this?” Qi Siyuan, seeing him suddenly lash out at their daughter, changed color, ”Don’t you know Xiao Yu’s not in good health? Couldn’t you ask more gently?”

”I’m telling you to shut up one more time!” For the first time in many years of marriage, Cheng Nanfang roared at his wife with such fury.

Stunned by his outburst, Qi Siyuan was about to retort when Cheng Yue stopped her with a look.

”Dad, do you perhaps already know something?” Cheng Yu put down her chopsticks, her face still calm.

”I’m asking you again, not the other way around.”

Knowing that she couldn’t hide the truth, Cheng Yu decided to come clean.

”He’s the man who saved my life on the China-Vietnam Battlefield! He’s the man who has occupied my heart for eight long years. I can’t forget him, I can’t stop myself from thinking about him.”

Once Cheng Yu finished speaking, Cheng Yue was profoundly shocked.

His sister had urged him to give up on An Hao, yet the man etched in his heart was An Hao’s husband.

His heart was filled with conflicting emotions.

He didn’t know what to say.

”But he’s already married,” Cheng Nanfang tapped his fingers forcefully on the table, ”You chased after him across a thousand miles with the aim of destroying a military marriage.”

”It would have been better if I had succeeded,” Cheng Yu murmured with a wry smile, ”But I didn’t. That man’s heart has long been fortified against me, like a wall of brass and iron, impenetrable after one misstep.”

”So you’re saying, not only do you not feel ashamed of your actions, but you also regret it?”

Cheng Yu looked at Cheng Nanfang with furrowed brows and pitiful eyes, ”Dad, is it wrong to love someone? From the moment I saw him eight years ago to now, he’s taken root in my heart, and I can’t forget him. I don’t know when I’ll die, but before I do, I just want to love freely and intensely. Is that wrong too?”

”But you’ve fallen for a married man!” Cheng Nanfang’s forehead veins throbbed violently, a sign of his impending rage.

”Enough, Xiao Yu, don’t say any more,” Qi Siyuan hastily intervened.

”What does it matter? I don’t care!” Cheng Yu said stubbornly.

No sooner had she spoken than a sharp smack resonated, and a stinging pain spread across her cheek. She fell to the ground, chair and all.

”Sister!” Cheng Yue yelled, quickly reaching out to cradle her head.
