Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1949: Chapter 1951: Strive to Live Well

During dinner, Mother Cheng also asked Cheng Su if her aunt’s funeral went smoothly.

”It was alright, nothing went wrong. As long as there’s money, everything can definitely be arranged properly,” Cheng Su said while eating her rice.

”Was it respectable?” Mother Cheng asked again.

”Mom, they are not a very wealthy family, how respectable could it be? It’s already good that it was handled smoothly!” Cheng Su said with a slight smile.

Actually, whether it was respectable or not doesn’t matter; the key is that it went smoothly. No matter how respectable, the person is dead, what’s the use? It’s just the vanity of the children, anyway.

If she were to die in the future, just scattering her ashes at sea would be fine—simple and without fuss!

”Did your parents-in-law also go?”

Cheng Su nodded, ”Of course.”

When she was leaving, her mother-in-law was somewhat dissatisfied with her, but what’s the use? How does it concern her?

However, speaking of it, some things are quite bothersome. Like the issue between Deng Weixia and Liu Wenjing, back then, their matter got around after all, and no one in the village didn’t know. Now that they’ve come back, and the first thing they have to do is attend a funeral, naturally, there would be some gossip.

Some even said they angered the aunt to death!

”Ah, in this village, what can’t be spread? Even a fart would be known, let alone such a big matter?” Mother Cheng said, ”No matter how unpleasant the gossip is, it’s the last time now anyway, since your aunt has passed away. This is the last time in the village, right? In the future, even if you don’t go back, they can talk all they want, you can’t hear a word.”

That’s true, out of sight, out of mind, out of ear, out of fret.

”That’s what I said. Anyway, once they’ve finished the funeral, at most they’ll come back to pay respects to their ancestors, they won’t be staying long,” Cheng Su said.

Deng Weixia and the others all went out to work hard, they won’t return to their hometown, no matter how ugly the gossip is, they won’t hear it. Even if they occasionally go back, it’s just a short stay, so why be afraid?

After some time, there won’t be much interest in gossiping about it. The key is he works hard, makes a success of himself, who would look down on him then?

A truly strong person wouldn’t care about the gaze and words of others. If you’ve done something wrong, admit it, stand up again, live well, still a fine fellow.

...

In April, Deng Weixia called Cheng Su to say he’s back at work, considering there’s been a recent death in the family, it’s not proper to visit other people’s homes, so he won’t come to thank her in person, but will come over to talk some other time.

Cheng Su didn’t say much, just told him to work hard, not to dwell on past events. Now that his mother has passed away, he should just focus on living well in the future.

”Cousin-in-law, I will work hard in the future and repay the money,” Deng Weixia said.

”Good!”

Cheng Su hung up the phone, sat in the chair, and suddenly thought of Qi Taiguo, wanting to talk to him. Even if they couldn’t talk, just hearing his voice would be nice.

What a shame, the current communication technology isn’t advanced enough, and smartphones don’t exist yet. Otherwise, taking a video sooner to comfort the loneliness would be good, too.

Qi Xiaoqi watched her daydream, shook his head, clearly showing she was missing his dad again.

Cheng Su missed Qi Taiguo, didn’t he miss her too? Especially in times of vulnerability.

Qi Taiguo lay in the hospital bed, holding photos of Cheng Su and the others, heaved a sigh.

”Battalion Commander Qi, it’s time for your medication,” Lu Feiyun walked in.

Qi Taiguo put away the photos, sat up, looked at the calendar beside him. Another page had turned, and the day of returning was one day closer, and he was still alive.
