Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1943: Chapter 1945: Aunt in Critical Condition

...

Winter passed and spring arrived, and people had already put away their thick winter clothes and put on light jackets. The days went by one after another. With graduation approaching, Cheng Su no longer had to put in hard work for her studies, and her life centered around raising her son and managing her business. Life was, in a sense, peaceful and leisurely.

On the other hand, she was also waiting for bad news about Chiang Qing.

But before any news about Chiang Qing arrived, she received bad news about her aunt, who had been sent to the hospital in a critical condition.

Deng Weixia came to borrow money from Cheng Su.

”...Sister-in-law, I—I know it’s not quite appropriate. But I really...” Deng Weixia rubbed his hands, unable to finish his sentence.

Cheng Su said, ”What exactly happened? How come it suddenly...”

She put on her clothes and grabbed her bag, saying, ”Let’s go over and take a look.”

On the way, Cheng Su listened as Deng Weixia vaguely explained her aunt’s situation, and she sighed lightly.

It turned out that Deng Weixia’s young son accidentally knocked over a kettle of boiling water, getting scalded. Liu Wenjing rushed to take him to the hospital and couldn’t attend to her aunt.

As for the aunt, she probably wanted to get some water but couldn’t reach it. The water cup beside her was knocked to the ground, and she herself fell down.

It just so happened that Deng Weiqiu came to visit and discovered the aunt had fallen, immediately sending her to the hospital for emergency treatment. After the doctor’s examination, a critical condition notice was issued directly; now, she’s barely holding on.

”Fallen, how could she fall? Wasn’t she lying in bed?” Cheng Su asked, ”In addition, how could the fall be so serious?” She ended up in critical condition, barely breathing.

”The doctor said it’s not good to lie in bed all the time, so sometimes we let her sit in a chair for a while; her hands can at least move a little.” Deng Weixia said, ”But this fall also caused some cerebral hemorrhage, you know...”

Aunt had already had two strokes, the second one being very serious. Falling again and having a cerebral hemorrhage, it’s unclear how long she was unconscious. That she is still alive is sheer luck.

”What are you thinking?” Cheng Su asked him.

Deng Weixia showed a pained expression, pressed his lips together, and said nothing.

Cheng Su looked at his face and sighed.

”What does the doctor suggest?”

Deng Weixia inhaled through his nose and said, ”The doctor actually doesn’t recommend surgery. Given her age and having had two strokes, she might not survive the surgery. So...”

”So you’re waiting for her to pass away?” Cheng Su said, ”You came to borrow money, so what are you planning to do? Surgery or bringing her home to prepare?”

Deng Weixia held his head in his hands, his face full of anguish.

Cheng Su said nothing. She also knew this was a tough decision. Since the person in question was his biological mother, and he was her only son, whatever choice he made was up to him.

Trying to save her might not succeed; even if successful, she would be just a shell, requiring ongoing care and financial support. Since the stroke, a lot of money had already been spent, and they still owed Cheng Su. As for manpower, Liu Wenjing was already exhausted.

But not saving her, watching her die—no son, unless utterly heartless, could bear that without feeling pain or reluctance.

Cheng Su looked out the window. Perhaps because she was not directly involved, or because things had reached this point, she thought it might be better for her to pass away, rather than suffering alive.

But these thoughts could only remain in her mind. She had no right to make decisions for them.
