Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1941: Chapter 1943: They Are My Life

Under the same sky, but in different worlds, Cheng Su and the others on this side sense a silent storm forming amidst the calm, while far away in Africa, Qi Taiguo is also experiencing a small storm.

It’s been nearly two months since he came to Africa. Leading the team alongside the Aid Africa medical team in resistance efforts. This area is remote, with poor sanitary conditions and harsh conditions. In these two months, he has lost a significant amount of weight.

But no matter how tough the conditions, Qi Taiguo can handle it. After all, he’s from a military background, and when he joined the army as a new recruit, he experienced hardship in challenging times. Now, it’s just lousy food and accommodations, akin to training, nothing too unbearable.

The biggest challenge is the bacterial warfare. There are locals nearby who occasionally come to steal supplies, taking not only medical supplies but also people. They have to guard against this, protecting their compatriots while following the local army’s defense.

Combat is manageable, and Qi Taiguo is not without experience.

What challenges him most is the bacterial infection. This virus is severe, forming a quarantine circle, requiring utmost caution to avoid infection, or else he’s afraid he might end up in the quarantine zone too!

Aside from psychological factors, he has to endure the pain of separation from family. Especially at night, Qi Taiguo’s longing for Cheng Su becomes a physical ache.

Does she worry about him, he wonders, frustratingly realizing that even making a phone call from here is impossible.

Qi Taiguo sits on a mound of earth, takes out a photo from his close pocket, a family picture he took with Cheng Su and Xiao Qi during the New Year.

The photo, often taken out for viewing, has worn edges starting to whiten.

His fingers touch Cheng Su’s smiling face, lips gently upturned. Is she well? Does she miss him? Has she cried secretly?

He misses her deeply!

”Battalion Commander Qi.”

Qi Taiguo snaps out of his thoughts as a short-haired woman in a thin windbreaker approaches, nodding with a smile. Her eyes skim over the photo in his hand: ”Thinking about your wife and child again?”

”What brings Doctor Lu here?” Qi Taiguo flips the photo over, smiling as he asks.

This is Lu Feiyun, the leader of the medical team, reputedly a medical PhD with multiple peacekeeping missions under her belt. She volunteered for this Aid Africa mission.

For those with skills, Qi Taiguo always shows respect, especially for such a resilient woman who fears neither hardship nor fatigue; he regards her with even more respect.

”The weather’s too stuffy and humid, it’s suffocating inside. After eating, I came out for a walk.” Lu Feiyun sits on the mound next to him, eyeing the photo in his hand: ”May I have a look?”

Qi Taiguo doesn’t hesitate and hands the photo over.

Lu Feiyun looks at the family photo, comments, ”Your wife is truly beautiful, and your son looks smart and lively. It’s clear your family of three is very happy. What a lovely smile!” She returns the photo.

”Yes, I’m very fortunate!” Qi Taiguo carefully puts the photo back in his pocket. How fortunate indeed, to have such a wife, such a son.

Lu Feiyun observes, ”You love them very much!”

Qi Taiguo nods, admitting openly, ”They are my life, more important than my life!”

Leaning back, Lu Feiyun watches the local children playing and running on the ground, asks, ”I see you looking at the photo every chance you get, knowing you’re reluctant to leave them, why did you come to Aid Africa? You must know this bacterial war isn’t easy.”

”And you, Doctor Lu?” Qi Taiguo counters: ”You’re young and unmarried, right? Why come to such a dangerous place?”
