Chapter 603 - 586 Universal Language Exam
Chapter 603: Chapter 586 Universal Language Exam

Today was a thrilling day for the players at Ul Camp.

The camp was just an ordinary, ownerless small camp with nothing dangerous or worthwhile nearby. Those who stayed were those who couldn’t afford to move to a larger territory. Their days were uneventful and without much to look forward to.

But today, just as the camp players were out hunting and gathering, a large group of Beastmen suddenly appeared, leaving the camp nearly deserted.

Their appearance was so sudden that the shocked expressions hadn’t even faded from the faces of the camp players when the Beastmen reached the entrance of the camp.

Then they abruptly stopped, organized their formation, and formed into three lines.

Wait, lining up?

Before they could figure out what was happening, a high-pitched, penetrating call was heard.

”jiu~”

With this prolonged call, a shadow gradually grew larger on the ground of the camp.

A large creature with the head of an eagle and the body of a lion landed in front of the Beastman troops.

From the back of this creature, a green-haired, green-eyed girl holding a black and white furball jumped down.

The players almost immediately recognized this combination.

Hadn’t the forums mentioned that Mu Ying was leveling up too fast in the Northwest and had returned to Qingshan City to seclude herself for a leveling digestion?

It was said that every time her level progress slowed down, she would seclude herself in Qingshan City.

What was she doing here?

Regardless of the reason, with her here, at least their camp was safe.

Relieved from the threat to their lives, the players relaxed a lot. Some quickly started messaging on the forums to gossip about the current situation, while others took a few steps towards the camp entrance to watch the commotion.

Meanwhile, Mu Ying magically produced a pouch: ”Since it’s your first time here, I’ve paid your entrance fee for you, but once inside, you’ll need to find a way to earn money and repay me. I’ll record your performance in the camp, which will be part of your Universal Language test. The more money you earn through your own ability and the longer you stay in the camp, the higher your score will be. Got it?”

On their journey here, Mu Ying had also told them a lot about human camps, focusing mainly on practical vocabulary used daily, especially for trading items, which was a key point.

The contents of the test had also been announced in advance; the Beastmen were not unprepared. They had been divided into groups in the academy, each with its own Beast Cage and experimental field where they could freely manage their outputs. Moreover, on their way here, they had used their unique skills to collect some valuable items. Their initial money had come from this.

”Yes, Lord of Wisdom!” The Beastmen were eager to try.

Mu Ying nodded, ”Now come in order and collect your copper coins. Your teacher will arrive tomorrow noon; meet by the Transmission Array in the camp!”

The Beastmen collected their copper coins, paid their entrance fee, and began trading to earn money.

Mu Ying mounted Da Ming, flew away from the camp, then found an secluded area, sent Da Ming and Gungun into the Small World, and she herself returned to the camp on her Magic Flying Carpet. Then she covered the entire camp with her Perception ability, observed every move of the Beastman students, and noted their scores.

The players at Ul Camp, having witnessed all this, were speechless.

They had received too much information all at once and felt like their brains weren’t quite keeping up.

Why did these Beastmen call Mu Ying Lord of Wisdom?

Since when could Beastmen speak the Universal Language?

What was this Universal Language test?

But they no longer had a chance to ponder these questions, because some of the Beastmen had already set their sights on them!

There were originally not many players in the camp, while there were quite a few Beastmen.

Yi Shan was one of the unlucky players who got entangled; in front of him a large tiger with sharp white teeth grabbed his skinny arm and then said, ”Hello? Have you eaten?”

Yi Shan was terrified—eaten? Did it want to eat him?

If it weren’t for knowing that this was within the camp’s territory, and that anyone who attacked would be thrown out by the camp’s protective shield, he would be kneeling and begging for mercy by now.

”Have you eaten?” Hu Ya, hearing no response, thought there might be an issue with his pronunciation, so he asked again.

”Eaten... eaten...” Yi Shan stuttered.

”Oh, I’ve eaten too,” said Hu Ya.

Yi Shan breathed a sigh of relief, he’d eaten too, so he probably wouldn’t want to eat him, right?

”The weather is nice today,” Hu Ya added.

Yi Shan: ”???”

He looked up at the sky, perhaps this tiger-like Beastman liked overcast days?

He forced a stiff smile and said, ”Yes... it’s quite nice.”

Hu Ya thought the small talk was sufficient—he had talked about food, discussed the weather, and shown his sunniest smile. Surely, that should convey his friendliness. The human brother seemed happy too, so it was time for the next step.

Before coming, he had planned his exam strategy: find a local who looked approachable, befriend them, and then ask how to sell the items he had brought.

As for befriending someone, he had summed it up into three steps.

The first step involved casual small talk—usually about meals and weather. If the other person responded patiently, it indicated a desire to know more and allowed moving to the next step: self-introduction and then asking for information. If the other person introduced himself too, it meant he liked him back, and that would be the moment to make a friendship.

So, Hu Ya bared his big white teeth: ”Look at my teeth, aren’t they beautiful?”

Yi Shan swallowed and reluctantly nodded.

Beautiful? This was clearly terrifying!

”My teeth have always been the most beautiful in our tribe; that’s why my name is Hu Ya, nice name, isn’t it?” Hu Ya explained.

The Lord of Wisdom had said that self-introductions should have a personal touch to make oneself memorable, and his teeth were his distinct feature.

Yi Shan nodded again. Nice name indeed, but those teeth and the name ”Hu Ya” seemed utterly unrelated.

Hu Ya felt satisfied inside: ”What’s your name?”

”Yi Shan,” Yi Shan replied, unsure of what this Beastman named Hu Ya wanted—or perhaps Beastmen were just chatterboxes?

After all, looking around, he wasn’t the only one being roped into a conversation.

Having just one Beastman nearby was far better than his compatriots.

”Yi... Shan?” Hu Ya tried it out: ”Did I say it right? We just started learning the Universal Language, so please forgive my poor pronunciation!”

Yi Shan, hearing that ”please,” suddenly felt a bit braver and tentatively corrected his pronunciation: ”It’s Yi Shan!”

”Yi~Shan?” Hu Ya repeated.

”Yes, that’s right this time,” Yi Shan said.

Hu Ya decisively moved to the third step: ”Can you be my friend?”

And he made an effort to open his eyes wide, gripping the other’s hand tightly to show his sincerity.

Yi Shan tried to smile: ”Sure... sure.”

Hu Ya happily released the hand and enthusiastically grasped his new friend’s shoulder.

Yi Shan silently moved his claw-marked arm behind his back.

Mu Ying, observing all this, silently deducted a point from Hu Ya for not controlling his strength.
