I Live on the Land in Global Games

Chapter 53 - 53 52 Goblin Movements53: Chapter 52 Goblin Movements 53: Chapter 52 Goblin Movements Mu Ying was lucky, making it to the outskirts of the forest without encountering danger, which further proved that the monsters this time were not densely populated.

A sudden strange noise “Boom~” came.

Mu Ying halted her steps.

The startled birds enabled her to quickly locate the source of the sound, and she climbed a nearby tree to look in that direction.

Moments later, another strange noise was heard, and a cluster of treetops suddenly vanished in the distance.

Who was chopping down trees half a day after the monster’s arrival?

Mu Ying felt that something was not quite right and proceeded even more cautiously in that direction.

It was indeed goblins that were chopping the trees!

They looked similar to those she had seen in the territory before.

One goblin was swinging an axe almost as tall as itself, chopping at a tree, while two others were processing the felled lumber, and additional goblins kept coming to carry away the segmented wood.

Just by looking at the logs, one could tell that a goblin’s strength was at least comparable to that of an adult man.

Mu Ying observed for a while and deduced from their attire that there were a total of six goblins transporting lumber.

Curious about what they were doing with the wood, Mu Ying took a detour to probe the direction in which the goblins were moving the lumber.

It seemed the goblins’ perception was not very high.

Although Mu Ying had the assistance of Traceless Step and Forest Traversing, her tracking skills were not particularly sophisticated, yet the goblins did not notice her.

Their destination was by the Clear Water River, on the edge of the forest, where even more goblins were active.

There was a crudely sharpened makeshift fence and a small hut that had just been framed.

Mu Ying marveled at their construction speed.

There were more goblins than what Sparrow Mother had mentioned earlier; obviously, more had come since then.

From their building activities and jabbering, it was clear that the goblins were an intelligent species with their own language, though Mu Ying couldn’t understand it.

The zombies that had appeared before seemed more like a cluster of data compared to them.

Since they were living creatures, they would inevitably compete with humans for living space.

Moreover, they were aggressive towards humans and even saw humans as prey.

Their active area was not far from the territory, and everyone leaving the territory might encounter goblin attacks.

With open visibility by the riverside, it was almost impossible to approach silently.

Mu Ying dared not rashly confront so many goblins at once.

She quietly retreated into the forest, planning to try her hand at those few goblins inside.

The goblins transported the lumber in groups of six, taking away the wood of one tree at a time.

Mu Ying crouched in the bushes, and after the goblins moved the lumber away for a while, she waited until a goblin had just felled a tree and two others came over to split the trunk.

She cast Thunder Wave when the three goblins were at their closest.

The invisible soundwave spread out, causing the three goblins to become dizzy, and the one with the axe nearly chopped off its own toes.

Taking advantage of this, Mu Ying emerged from the bushes.

She moved closer while using the entanglement technique to bind their limbs and weapons.

Binding the goblins was not easy.

They were short but much more agile than zombies, with stronger struggles and better techniques.

Luckily, Mu Ying had bet correctly that the goblins’ weakness was mental, as the effect of Thunder Wave was significant.

To be extra safe, she also cast Cloud Mist Technique to obstruct the goblins’ vision.

What followed was the Oak Stick Technique combined with Spear Thrust.

Three goblins were successively skewered like “candied haws.”

“Phew~” Only after the kill notification appeared did Mu Ying truly relax.

It seemed that with a little caution, killing goblins was not a problem.

It was a pity that she had already accumulated enough Slaughter Experience for level 3 from killing zombies before.

Mu Ying, following the kill prompt, searched the goblin’s body for any loot.

The one that had been chopping trees seemed a bit richer; its axe was relatively new, and it had more money on it.

The other two had barely a coin in their pockets, and their choppers were not only worn out but also had nicked blades; it was tough for them to work with such tools.

The tattered trousers and shirts were what the goblins wore, dingy and stained with all kinds of unknown blemishes, seemingly never washed, crusted with a thick layer of dirt, and smelled unbearable, with no recycling value whatsoever.

The copper coins didn’t appear directly on the corpses like those of zombies, forcing her to hold her nose and search for them herself.

Given the goblins’ horrific hygienic condition, Mu Ying felt it was essential to prepare a pair of gloves specifically for picking up drops.

“Sigh, this is reality, not a game after all, picking up loot sometimes really feels like rummaging through a pile of trash—”

The muttering stopped abruptly as Mu Ying and seven or eight goblins that suddenly emerged from the bushes dragging a small wild boar locked eyes.

“Ji li gu lu ka la ba!”

Although she couldn’t understand what they were saying, their ferocious faces and angry tone clearly meant no good.

Most alarming was that their attire and weapons were significantly better than those of the lumber-cutting goblins, and there was an archer among them.

Mu Ying didn’t think twice and bolted.

Her flight only emboldened the goblins, who chased after her with extraordinary bravery.

Goblins were small and had short legs, but they were surprisingly quick, and for a time, she couldn’t shake them off much.

An arrow shot through the air and hit her calf.

Mu Ying felt a sharp jab in her leg and nearly stumbled.

Thankfully, she was protected by the Tree Skin Skill, and the arrow didn’t penetrate her calf but only lodged a little before falling out.

The pain was intense, but bearable compared to the need to flee for her life.

She ran desperately, diving into any bushes or thorn thickets she saw, and after being hit by two arrows, she finally left the range of the goblin archers and entered the territory gate, safe but shaken.

It was the first time she had returned to her territory in such a disheveled state; she turned and stared back the way she had come.

Unfortunately, the group of goblins didn’t approach the territory, stopping at a significant distance away, being outrageously arrogant and shouting at her side of the territory.

“...” Although I can’t understand what you’re saying, you’re definitely cursing me out!

Unwilling to show weakness, Mu Ying rebuked them using a mix of Chinese, Universal Language, Druid Language, and Elf Language.

Apparently, the goblins’ level of education wasn’t up to par either; they didn’t even understand the Universal Language provided by the Doomsday Game.

The fruitless exchange ended abruptly and without conclusion; she would need to avenge the two arrows she endured today, sooner or later!

“Did you go out specifically to fight goblins?”

Lu You came upon hearing the news and only saw the receding figures of the goblins.

“Killed a few stragglers and stumbled upon a hunting party; got shot by two arrows,” Mu Ying said as she pursed her lips and rolled up her pant leg and sleeve.

On her calf and arm were wounds about the size of a fingernail, while the handheld Shi Yin crouched nearby, puffing effortfully.

“...” Lu You looked at the comically small arrow wounds and fell silent before stiffly saying, “Your Constitution is quite astonishing, isn’t it?”

In their squad, similar wounds from arrows were just being extracted.

“The effect of protective spells,” Mu Ying efficiently healed herself, “Still have some Mana Value left, want me to help treat the heavily wounded in your team?”
