Devouring Evolution: Devouring Nuclear Bombs at the Start

71: Chapter 71 The Concept of NamesLin Sheng felt as if he had heard something extraordinary.

However, this time he didn’t respond to the System, instead pretending as if nothing had happened and ignoring it.

Some things were better pondered in one’s heart; bringing them out into the open might not be ideal.

Setting aside the questions regarding the System, Lin Sheng turned his attention back to these Little Things.

At this moment, these Little Things were also sizing up Lin Sheng with what could be described as ”curious” gazes.

Seeing Lin Sheng look their way, the more active one among the Little Things even waved at him.

Its eyes and the top of its head struck each other and vibrated, using their race’s unique language to greet Lin Sheng.

”Hello, Big Thing. You can call us Little Things.”

This was the result translated by ”Omniscience.”

Lin Sheng scratched his head; he had no way of producing the sounds of the Little Things’ race.

Fortunately, perhaps because their civilization had developed to a certain degree, these Little Things had their own script.

And through ”Omniscience,” Lin Sheng could use these characters normally.

He extended a claw and wrote on the Ground:

”Hello, Little Things. I’m very curious about your home. Can you take me there to see it?”

Because Lin Sheng’s size was far too massive compared to these Little Things, the active Little Things had to run on its four long legs while reading the words Lin Sheng wrote.

Once it finished reading Lin Sheng’s words, the green pupils in its eyes flickered.

”Of course. We are all children of the ’Creator,’ one family; this is your home too.”

”Follow me. I’ll take you home right now.”

After the Little Things finished speaking, it pulled Lin Sheng toward the wall without taking no for an answer.

Its companions didn’t object to its actions; they all surrounded Lin Sheng and followed along.

As Lin Sheng walked, he thought about his next steps.

Ever since he started looking down at these Little Things from orbit, he had felt that this civilization was somewhat strange.

But as for where exactly the strangeness lay, he couldn’t quite put his finger on it for a moment.

”They don’t need to hunt, they don’t need to eat, and they don’t even have organs for eating.”

Lin Sheng finally realized what was so strange.

Looking down at Mars from orbit, Lin Sheng only felt a sense of desolation.

Under such circumstances, he hadn’t seen any other living creatures besides these Little Things.

In that case, what was the energy source for these Little Things?

Lin Sheng fell into deep thought.

Taking advantage of the fact that there were few ’people’ here and the Ground was relatively open, Lin Sheng wanted to stop and ask these Little Things for more information.

Lin Sheng slowly came to a halt, then extended his claw, letting it hover in the air, yet he hesitated to set it down on the Ground.

Searching through the meanings of every character in the Little Things’ race’s language in his mind, Lin Sheng suddenly discovered that this race actually lacked the word for ”name.”

Not only that, this race didn’t even have the concept of an ”appellation.”

In this race, each individual was independent in thought, but they were a collective in terms of how they were addressed.

They didn’t have ”names” or ”appellations” unique to themselves; every individual was called ”Little Things.”

It was because of this that Lin Sheng didn’t know what to write for a moment.

Seeing that Lin Sheng seemed to be agonizing over something, the Little Things leading the way turned its pupils toward him and asked:

”Big Thing, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell somewhere?”

Hearing the Little Things’ question, Lin Sheng reached out to gesture on the Ground:

”No, I just wanted to ask, you, how do you...”

Having written this far, Lin Sheng’s claw gestured on the Ground for a long time, but since the Little Things race had no concept of an ”appellation,” they naturally had no characters to express this meaning.

Watching Lin Sheng’s claw just rubbing against the Ground without writing anything, the Little Things also grew somewhat anxious.

With its active mind, it already knew that this big fellow couldn’t speak and was a compatriot with a ’physical problem.’

Therefore, although it was anxious, it did not rush Lin Sheng.

The scene fell into silence. A circle of Little Things surrounded Lin Sheng, all staring at his claw on the Ground, wanting to see what he would write next.

After his claw rubbed against the Ground for a long time, Lin Sheng finally thought of how to express the meaning of an ”appellation.”

He erased what he had written before and then wrote in the same spot:

”I, individual, Ground; you, individual, what?”

Since Lin Sheng’s name couldn’t be translated into the Little Things’ script, he randomly chose a noun that existed in this civilization for himself.

Looking at the characters Lin Sheng wrote, these Little Things collectively fell into deep thought.

After a while, the most active Little Things spoke again:

”You, individual, Big Thing, Ground; we, collective, Little Things; I, individual, individual...”

At this point, the Little Things suddenly paused.

Its green pupils were flickering wildly now, appearing somewhat anxious because it didn’t know how to proceed; in its mind, there was no concept of an individual appellation.

Feeling quite stifled, the Little Things turned its pleading gaze toward its surrounding companions.

But its companions’ expressions were identical to its own at that moment, and some Little Things’ pupils were flickering even faster than its own.

They kept calling out loudly with inquisitive tones:

”I, individual, individual...”

The buzzing sounds around him were incessant, making Lin Sheng’s head throb.

He wanted to stop these Little Things, but their thoughts were already in a state of chaos; no matter what Lin Sheng wrote on the Ground, they wouldn’t look at it.

Lin Sheng wanted to reach out and stop the chaotic behavior of these Little Things, but the moment his claw touched one of them, a flash of green light suddenly erupted from the Little Things Lin Sheng had touched.

Then, under Lin Sheng’s astonished gaze, the green light dissipated, and that Little Things miraculously vanished.
