Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

Zhao Rong sighed. Feeling cornered, he looked at the female ghost and said, ”Hey, female ghost, what if I don’t avenge you?”

The female ghost looked at Zhao Rong and smiled. ”Since you’ve already put on these Daoist robes, you can choose not to avenge me. But if you do, I can’t guarantee you won’t turn into a ghost yourself one day…”

Hearing this, Zhao Rong’s jaw dropped. ”In that case, I guess I’d better avenge you… By the way, female ghost, who is your enemy, and where is he? You aren’t going to make me travel back to the Tang Dynasty, are you?”

The female ghost was annoyed at being called ’female ghost’ over and over. ”I have a name. It’s not like I’m nameless. Can’t you please call me by my name?”

Hearing that the ghost in front of him had a name, Zhao Rong asked, ”Then what is your name?”

The female ghost moved a little closer, looked at him, and said, ”My name is Hua Zi.”

As she approached, Zhao Rong realized that this ghost named Hua Zi was actually quite beautiful, with a somewhat exotic charm. As a result, his fear lessened slightly. ”Hua Zi, that’s a nice name,” he said. ”But now, I want to know your story. Can you tell me?”

Upon hearing this, Hua Zi began to recount her story to Zhao Rong.

Hua Zi was from the Tang Dynasty. At the age of eighteen, she married a promising local scholar. However, on their wedding night, before her husband could even lift her bridal veil, a local ruffian named Wang Er disguised himself as her husband and snuck into their bridal chamber. The scoundrel murdered Hua Zi’s husband, intending to assault her.

When Hua Zi realized the person lifting her veil was not her husband but Wang Er, she resisted fiercely. However, a woman was no match for a man. Unable to fight him off, Hua Zi threw open the door and fled.

Wang Er gave chase, pursuing her all the way to the edge of a cliff. Looking at Hua Zi cornered there, he chuckled sinisterly. ”Hua Zi, just give in to me…” As he spoke, he stretched his vile hand toward her chest.

Facing Wang Er, Hua Zi immediately leapt off the cliff.

Hearing this, Zhao Rong finally understood why Hua Zi sought revenge. But he couldn’t figure out how Hua Zi, an ordinary village woman, could have possessed a set of Daoist robes belonging to a Zhongnan Mountain ghost catcher. So, he asked her.

Hua Zi explained that after she fell to her death, her body was found by someone arranging a posthumous marriage. The man she was posthumously married to happened to be a Zhongnan Mountain Ghost-Catching King. Inside the coffin, when the spirit of the Ghost-Catching King heard the story of Hua Zi, who had by then become a ghost, he decided to help her seek revenge.

Using a Spell, the Zhongnan Mountain ghost catcher embedded Hua Zi’s spirit into his own Daoist robes. Furthermore, the Ghost-Catching King cast a curse on the robes: whoever wore them must avenge Hua Zi. Otherwise, they would die within three days from bleeding through their seven orifices and, even after becoming a ghost, would be forever unable to reincarnate. At the same time, the Zhongnan Mountain Ghost-Catching King transferred all his powerful ghost-catching techniques to Hua Zi.

Just like that, Hua Zi waited in the tomb of the Zhongnan Mountain Ghost-Catching King for over a thousand years. It wasn’t until a few Tomb Robbers unearthed the robes at the foot of Zhongnan Mountain that Hua Zi finally saw the light of day again.

Once she was free, she discovered that Wang Er had already been reincarnated several times. In this current life, he had been reborn as Zhao Bo, the dean of the Ghost Hunting Academy. Therefore, for Hua Zi to have her revenge, she needed to kill the dean of the Ghost Hunting Academy and obliterate his soul, ensuring Wang Er could never be reincarnated again. Only then would her revenge be complete.

Zhao Rong was stunned. He looked at Hua Zi and said, ”Are you kidding me? The Chairman sent me to the Ghost Hunting Academy for two reasons. First, to protect his daughter. Second, to take over the dean’s position so his Hongda Company can acquire the academy. But you want me to help you with your revenge? It looks like I’m fated to be mortal enemies with the dean of the Ghost Hunting Academy.”

Hearing his words, Hua Zi comforted him. ”Don’t feel like you’re getting a bad deal. While you help me with my revenge, I can also teach you how to catch ghosts and even help you do it… After all, I received all the true teachings of the Zhongnan Mountain Ghost-Catching King.”

At this, Zhao Rong suddenly brightened up. He had been worrying about how someone like him, with absolutely no foundation or experience in ghost-catching, was supposed to survive at the Ghost Hunting Academy. Now, with Hua Zi, a ghost king, as his powerful backer, what ghost was there to fear?

Thinking of this, he couldn’t help but laugh heartily. ”It seems everything really does have two sides! A bit of bad in the good, and a bit of good in the bad…”

Hearing his wild laughter, Hua Zi reminded him, ”But I, Hua Zi, can only deal with ghosts, not people. So…”

Before she could finish, Zhao Rong interjected, ”That’s easy. You can leave the dean of the Ghost Hunting Academy to me, and I’ll leave the ghosts at the Ghost Hunting Academy to you.”

Just then, the male student who had run off in fear suddenly charged back, this time with two Ghost Catching Taoist Priests in tow.

When Hua Zi saw them, she quickly said to Zhao Rong, ”Alright, I need to get back inside the robes. These two incompetent Ghost Catching Taoist Priests are all yours…” With that, Hua Zi vanished into the Daoist robes Zhao Rong was wearing, leaving no trace.

By this time, the male student had brought the two priests right up to Zhao Rong. The student rushed over, helped his unconscious girlfriend up from the ground, and said to the two priests, ”Masters, the ghost was right here, just above this guy’s head!”

Hearing this, the two priests, dressed in yellow jackets and holding Peach Wood Swords, surrounded Zhao Rong. The one with a small mustache introduced himself, ”I am a disciple of the Quanzhen Ghost Hunting Sect. I specialize in catching female ghosts.”

The other priest, who sported a goatee, pressed his nose against Zhao Rong’s clothes and sniffed him up and down. ”I am a disciple of the Sanyi Ghost Hunting Sect. I specialize in catching male ghosts.”

Zhao Rong watched the two men sniffing all over him. ”Are you two gay or something? I’m a man. Please don’t get so close.”

Hearing this, the priest from the Sanyi Ghost Hunting Sect frowned. ”This person has a demonic aura…”

The Quanzhen priest added, ”Not only does he have a demonic aura, I’d say he *is* a ghost.”

When the male student nearby heard that Zhao Rong was actually a ghost, he immediately hugged his unconscious girlfriend, took a step back, and pointed a finger at Zhao Rong’s nose. ”I suspected you were a ghost from the start! I knew it! You really are a ghost!” With that, the student started shaking his girlfriend awake. ”Honey, wake up! You said you’ve never seen a ghost, right? Well, this man right here, he’s a ghost!”

When Zhao Rong heard the three of them insisting he was a ghost, he was utterly frustrated. He looked at the Sanyi priest and chided him, ”Mister, since you’re a disciple of the Niubi Sect, couldn’t you at least be a little more professional? Don’t mistake a living, breathing person for a ghost!”

Then, Zhao Rong turned to the Quanzhen priest beside him. ”And you, are you blind or something? How can you mistake a living person like me for a ghost?”

After scolding the two priests, Zhao Rong turned his anger on the wretched couple. ”You two better hope I don’t find out your names, or I’ll announce your expulsion at tomorrow’s assembly.”

The male student burst out laughing. ”You’re just a little security guard, not the dean. You want to expel us? That’s hilarious.”

Hearing this, Zhao Rong finally understood. So that’s it. I’ve been a security guard for so long that I accidentally wore the security uniform today instead of the dean’s. No wonder this wretched couple is so disrespectful—they think I’m just a guard!

After mocking Zhao Rong, the student pulled his student ID from his pocket and thrust it at him. ”Here, little security guard. This is my student ID. Take a good look. Go on, expel me tomorrow if you have the guts.” As he spoke, he howled with laughter.

His girlfriend, now awake, was no pushover either. She pulled out her own student ID. ”Little security guard, if you’ve got the balls to expel two college students like us, then my boyfriend will eat dog crap tomorrow.” After saying her piece, she smirked slyly.

Zhao Rong took their IDs, pulled out his phone, and snapped pictures of both cards. He had just taken the photos and hadn’t even put his phone away when he felt someone poking his back with a stick. He turned to see the Quanzhen priest jabbing him frantically with his Peach Wood Sword.

While poking Zhao Rong, the priest exclaimed, ”Damn, this ghost’s cultivation level is way too high! My Peach Wood Sword can’t even kill him.”

Meanwhile, in front of him, the Sanyi priest was hacking at his shoulder with another Peach Wood Sword. ”What in the hell? This sword of mine has slain countless demons and ghouls. Why is it having no effect on this ghost today?”

As the two ghost catchers were having the time of their lives poking him with their swords, Zhao Rong finally lost his patience. He used his Special Abilities and Instant Teleportation. Moving at a speed invisible to the human eye, he snatched two bricks from the ground.

Zhao Rong slammed a brick onto the Quanzhen priest’s head. ”You’re unteachable! I already told you I’m a person, not a ghost, but you still insist on poking me with that sword. Don’t you ever get tired?”

Next, he smashed another brick onto the Sanyi priest’s head. ”Idiot! And you call yourself a disciple of the prestigious Sanyi Ghost Hunting Sect? You can’t even tell the difference between a human and a ghost?”

After being hit, the two disciples looked at each other. As they collapsed, they mumbled dazedly, ”Damn… we really met a truly powerful ghost today. Not only was he immune to our Peach Wood Swords, he even fought back…”

”Yeah… and he used bricks. Who ever heard of a ghost fighting with bricks? That’s impossible to defend against…”

Seeing that the two were about to pass out but were still talking so much nonsense, Zhao Rong picked up two concrete blocks from nearby and dropped one on each of their heads. That finally shut them up.

When the male and female students saw Zhao Rong knock out the two priests they had hired, they immediately chickened out. The male student shoved his girlfriend into Zhao Rong’s arms, turned to flee, and yelled, ”Lord Ghost, please spare me! I don’t want this woman anymore! She’s all yours! Take her!”

Seeing her boyfriend abandon her, the terrified female student dropped to her knees before Zhao Rong. ”Lord Ghost, please spare me! My skills are extraordinary. If you’re not opposed, I can offer them to you…”

Zhao Rong looked down at the kneeling girl, then glanced around at the unlit area. He looked back at her curiously. ”Your skills… just how good are they?”

At his question, the girl promptly pulled out a… and a lollipop from her pocket. ”Lord Ghost, which one would you like me to perform with?”
