Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

Before them, the mirage unveiled a scene that left everyone stunned and terrified. When the assistant saw his own reflection within the mirage, chasing after the beautiful Yu Lan with a sharp knife, he said in disbelief, ”How is that possible? Yu Lan is the goddess I have a secret crush on. I haven’t even had a chance to tell her I love her, so how could I possibly be chasing her with a knife...”

Next to him, Xuelian covered her eyes, too afraid to look. ”I’ve always dreamed of the day I’d wear fine silks and be carried in a grand sedan to marry Brother Zhao Rong... But why does the mirage show me holding a big rock and smashing him to death?”

Seeing this, Zhao Rong gasped. He turned to look at the assistant and Xuelian, comforting them. ”Don’t be afraid or panic. This is just a scene in a mirage. It’s not real, so don’t believe it. Let’s keep moving.”

Miss Lili also wiped her eyes, still watching the horrifying scene. ”This is all an illusion,” she said. ”We have to keep clear heads. We absolutely must not be blinded by illusions or deceived by what’s in front of us...” With that, she followed Zhao Rong deeper into the cave.

The assistant, Yu Lan, and Xuelian, who were following behind, glanced at one another in dismay.

Why did the mirage show the three of us committing murder, but not Zhao Rong or Miss Lili? This is truly strange, the assistant wondered.

Meanwhile, Xuelian said to Yu Lan beside her, ”If, in a little while, I really do start chasing Brother Zhao Rong with a rock, you have to stop me...”

Yu Lan nodded. ”Don’t worry, Xuelian, I’ll definitely stop you. But if the assistant starts chasing me with a knife, you have to help hold him back, too.”

Hearing this, the assistant said dismissively, ”If I were to chase you with a knife, as the vision showed, then may lightning strike me down and may all my future sons be born without buttholes! Yu Lan, I swear to the heavens, no matter how twisted or terrifying I might become, I would never chase you with a knife. You are my goddess.”

After speaking, the assistant resumed his position at the very rear of the group, acting as the rearguard. Yu Lan and Xuelian fell in line behind Miss Lili, and the group of five continued their way into the cave.

However, they hadn’t walked for long when a bone-chilling wind suddenly gusted out from the depths. The cold air blew over them, so piercing it felt as if it were freezing the very marrow in their bones. The assistant shivered violently, hugging his arms. ”Damn it, it wasn’t this cold when we first came in. Why is it so cold all of a sudden? It’s enough to freeze a person to death! If I’d known, I would’ve brought a down jacket.”

Just as he was regretting not bringing one, he was shocked to find a Bosideng down jacket lying on the ground next to him. He stared in disbelief, then used his headlamp to get a better look. When he saw that the jacket was not only new but also looked warm, he immediately picked it up and put it on without a second thought.

Feeling much warmer, the assistant looked at the shivering women ahead of him. ”Hey, you ladies, you should look around the sides of the cave. Maybe you’ll get as lucky as I did and find a down jacket.”

Hearing this, Zhao Rong immediately turned around. He stared at the jacket the assistant was wearing and said in surprise, ”Why would there be a down jacket inside Black Wind Cave? Could someone have come here before us?”

Seeing Zhao Rong’s surprise, the assistant replied nonchalantly, ”It’s cold in here. If there’s a jacket, we should just wear it. Why worry about where it came from?”

Just then, Miss Lili spotted a skeleton by the cave wall. ”There aren’t just down jackets,” she screamed. ”There are skeletons!”

As Miss Lili screamed, Yu Lan and Xuelian also noticed the white bones nearby. When Zhao Rong saw the massive piles of bones lining both sides of the path, he immediately warned the others, ”We may have just entered the most dangerous part of this cave...”

The moment the assistant saw the chilling bones, he ripped off the down jacket and threw it aside. Wiping the cold sweat from his forehead, he muttered, ”Damn, I have no idea whose dead body this jacket belonged to, but I picked it up and put it on. What terrible luck...”

At that moment, Xuelian stepped on a skull. In the darkness, she didn’t realize what it was; she only felt something round and smooth under her foot, much like a soccer ball. She gave it a kick, sending it flying. ”How strange. Why is there a soccer ball in this cave?”

Miss Lili watched the skull roll to a stop a short distance away, her face turning deathly pale. ”Xuelian, that’s not a soccer ball, it’s a skull!”

Yu Lan was also startled. She looked at Xuelian and said, ”Xuelian, you have a strange taste for things, kicking a skull around like a soccer ball.”

Suddenly, Zhao Rong noticed a small hill made entirely of bones not far away. At the same time, the assistant saw it too. Covering his mouth in horror, he said, ”How can there be so many bones in Black Wind Cave? Did thousands of people lose their lives after entering this place?”

The women were so frightened they huddled together. Xuelian clutched her right foot, regretting her earlier action. ”It’s all my fault. If I hadn’t kicked that skull, we wouldn’t have discovered this mound of human bones.”

Zhao Rong frowned, unable to make sense of it. ”So far, we haven’t encountered any real danger in this cave. There are no monsters or hidden traps. So how did all these people die?”

Just then, Zhao Rong caught a strange scent. He instantly pinched his nose and shouted, ”This is bad, it’s poison gas! Everyone, wet a piece of clothing and cover your mouth and nose, quickly!” As he spoke, he pulled off his T-shirt and soaked it in a puddle on the cave floor. He then pressed it against his nose and mouth to prevent himself from inhaling the gas.

Being the closest, Miss Lili also smelled the strange odor. She felt herself choking, unable to breathe. She quickly pulled off her T-shirt, soaked it in water, and used it to cover her mouth and nose.

Compared to their swift reactions, the assistant just stared at them, puzzled. He took a long sniff of the strange smell and said, ”What is that scent? It’s like that snake woman’s perfume from back in the day, but it also smells like New Orleans-style grilled chicken wings...” Before he could finish his sentence, he suddenly fell silent. His body went rigid, and his eyes glazed over.

Standing next to him, Xuelian had also smelled the strange odor. Although she heard Zhao Rong’s warning and knew the gas was dangerous, she hesitated. Just as she was about to follow his example and take off her T-shirt to wet it, she suddenly remembered that she wasn’t wearing a bra today. If she rashly pulled off her shirt, wouldn’t her chest be completely exposed? In that brief moment of hesitation, her body suddenly jolted as if electrocuted. Her eyes turned red, and as she looked at Zhao Rong, an indescribable hatred began to churn within her heart.

Yu Lan, standing between the assistant and Xuelian, had managed to take off her T-shirt and cover her face with it. However, she hadn’t soaked it in water. So, despite her efforts, a small amount of the poison gas still managed to enter her lungs.

With her face covered, Miss Lili looked at Zhao Rong. ”Brother Zhao Rong, why is there poison gas in this cave? What is it? Is it natural gas? Sarin?”

Zhao Rong was just as baffled, but he had a strong feeling this was no ordinary poison. The horrifying piles of bones around them were likely the result of this very gas. He told Lili, ”I don’t know what kind of poison gas this is, but we should be fine as long as we don’t breathe it in.”

But before he could finish, Miss Lili’s face went white with terror. She pointed behind him and screamed, ”Brother Zhao Rong, look out! Xuelian is lifting a rock to smash your head!”

Zhao Rong spun around. When he saw Xuelian was indeed raising a rock to bring it down on his head, he cried out in shock, ”Xuelian, why are you trying to hit me?”

Before he could even finish his question, the nearby assistant suddenly pulled a dagger from his waist and lunged viciously at Yu Lan.

As Zhao Rong saw Xuelian coming at him with the rock and the assistant charging at Yu Lan with a dagger, his mind flashed back to the mirage he had seen earlier. That vision had been like a movie, perfectly predicting the scene now unfolding before him. Zhao Rong was utterly stunned.

He rushed forward to stop Xuelian and the assistant, his mind replaying the mirage.

The mirage earlier not only depicted this very scene... but it ended with Xuelian crushing me to death with a rock, and the assistant stabbing Yu Lan to death. The only survivor, Lili, then jumped into a nearby pool of water and drowned... No matter what, I have to stop what’s coming next...
