Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 599: Chapter 597: The Ultimate Uncle

In the strictest sense, Huo Sining had only met Yin Zeyan a handful of times, but just now, from his end of the phone call, she could sense that his enthusiasm didn’t seem feigned.

Is it normal to be so warm and responsible toward a stranger? Or is it just that Yin Zeyan is naturally like this, ready to help anyone who asks?

Although she felt a bit perplexed, Huo Sining did not directly ask Su Qingqing about it in front of Zhao Yuliang. She felt that Yin Zeyan’s attitude towards her was somewhat off.

However, the thought merely flashed through her mind and she wasn’t certain, so she kept it to herself.

She thought she would wait to see Yin Zeyan later and judge his behavior then, to determine whether his attitude towards her was genuine or not, kind-hearted or scheming.

Waiting is always the hardest part, but luckily, Su Qingqing was quite talkative. In just a few short minutes, she became chummy with Zhao Yuliang, chatting away about everything under the sun.

Less than fifteen minutes had passed when suddenly someone banged loudly on Zhao Yuliang’s front door.

Huo Sining leapt to her feet, startled: Could it be that Yin Zeyan had arrived so quickly?

This thought was fleeting; soon after, Huo Sining felt something was amiss.

Yin Zeyan was at Yin Yizhai; even at his quickest, it would take twenty minutes to get here from there. Yin Zeyan had never been to Zhao Yuliang’s house before, and it would take time to find the house number by navigating from the alley. Half an hour would be considered good timing; it was impossible for him to have found Zhao Yuliang’s home so quickly.

While Huo Sining was still pondering, the person knocking on the door grew impatient, increasing both the force and frequency of their knocks, while also shouting loudly, ”Yuliang! Zhao Yuliang, I know you’re in there, hurry up and open the damn door!”

Huo Sining stared blankly, looking at Zhao Yuliang with surprise.

Zhao Yuliang’s face grew dark instantly, and he explained in a low voice, ”It’s my uncle.”

With a nod, Huo Sining put together what she had learned from encountering Mr. He on Antique Street and the bits of conversation she had overheard while Su Qingqing and Zhao Yuliang were chatting. She had already deduced the difficult situation facing this mother and son left to fend for themselves.

It was nothing more than relatives being tempted by money; knowing that Zhao Yuliang’s family possessed a pair of valuable antique jade cups, and seeing Zhao Yuliang’s mother afflicted with an incurable disease, they conspired with outsiders to cheat the widowed mother and son, planning to secretly take possession of the family’s jade cups in their time of vulnerability.

Seeing Zhao Yuliang’s ashen face, Huo Sining knew he must be deeply troubled by the distress within his family.

Every household has its problems, but it’s a rule that family disgraces are not to be spread abroad. No matter how troublesome, Zhao Yuliang would not want to make them public.

Now, with Huo Sining and Su Qingqing, two outsiders, in the room, it was natural for him to look unhappy.

”I’ll go and open the door. When my uncle comes in, you two must not tell him that the cup is from the Tang Dynasty. Otherwise, my family will be turned upside down and we’ll never have peace again,” he said.

Zhao Yuliang got up to answer the door. After taking a few steps, he suddenly remembered something, turned back, and lowered his voice to remind Huo Sining and Su Qingqing.

Huo Sining and Su Qingqing exchanged a glance, both nodded knowingly, understanding Zhao Yuliang’s intention.

The allure of money breeds greed. Knowing that the Luminescent Cup was worth a million, Zhao Yuliang’s uncle and aunt were willing to trick their own nephew. If they knew the cup was worth four to five million, no one could predict what those greedy aunts would do.

As soon as Zhao Yuliang opened the door, three people rushed in. The man in the lead had an angry expression on his face, yet bore some resemblance to Zhao Yuliang, and seemed to be about fifty years old, which meant he was probably Zhao Yuliang’s uncle.

The man following behind wore a sly smile; it was Mr. He, whom Huo Sining had previously encountered on Antique Street.

As for the middle-aged woman peeking around them, Huo Sining could guess with her toes that it must be Zhao Yuliang’s aunt.

Zhao Yuliang resembled Zhao Mingcheng, albeit a generation apart, but this uncle looked as if he were cut from the same mold as Zhao Mingcheng, with nearly identical features.

If it weren’t for the fact that this uncle was much older than Zhao Mingcheng, someone unfamiliar with them would definitely mistake one for the other at first glance.

Huo Sining sneered inwardly. In her previous life, Zhao Mingcheng conspired with Wu Jingyi for the sake of benefit and plotted against her life. In this life, she saw Zhao’s uncle duping his own nephew. Indeed, the Zhao brothers were true blood relatives, equally base and shameless.

And it was a wonder how Zhao Yuliang turned out well, growing up in such a family without being crooked. Could this be considered a good jujube growing out of a crooked melon?

”Yuliang, are you trying to kill your uncle with anger, or what? It wasn’t easy for me to bring Mr. He here, and you just leave without a word? Mr. He is genuinely interested in buying your cups; we had an agreement, why are you backing out now? Where do you put my face as your uncle?”

Zhao’s uncle didn’t even glance at Huo Sining and Su Qingqing upon entering and immediately launched into a tirade at Zhao Yuliang.

However, Mr. He did notice Huo Sining and Su Qingqing, paused for a moment, but didn’t pay them much mind.

Considering Huo Sining and Su Qingqing’s ages, he assumed the two girls were likely friends of Zhao Yuliang, so he didn’t think along other lines, naturally not suspecting that Huo Sining and her companion were there for the jade cups.

”Uncle, before you start talking, you’d better clear up whether I went back on my word first, or if it was Mr. He who turned traitor first!”

Zhao Yuliang was already quite displeased with Mr. He’s character, and now that he had found a buyer for his items, he had put his mind at ease.

With five million in hand, he wouldn’t have to worry about the funds for his mother’s surgery, so he was firm in his stance, and it didn’t matter if he offended his uncle and Mr. He.

”Why are you so stubborn, you unruly child? When a deal is not struck, goodwill remains. Why be so confrontational with your words?”

Zhao’s aunt, seeing the atmosphere tense up in an instant, couldn’t help but try to smooth things over with a chuckle.

”Besides, didn’t Mr. He say it? Your cups haven’t been authenticated. Who knows if they’re real or fake? Mr. He is offering a high price of six hundred thousand; can’t he buy those two broken cups of yours? I’m telling you, stuff is just stuff, but your mother is waiting for this money in desperation. Even if you don’t think of your uncle, think of your mother, won’t you?”

Zhao’s aunt played the peacemaker expertly, striking right at the heart. If Zhao Yuliang hadn’t found Huo Sining to help, perhaps he might have softened upon hearing his aunt’s words, and maybe after some coaxing, he would’ve really sold the cups to Mr. He for a mere six hundred thousand.
