My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1994: Chapter 1788: Action

”Grandpa, I understand and know every principle you’ve mentioned. I’ve made all the decisions. What I want is very simple, but I’ve lost too much!”

After Xia Jing spoke to her son, she hung up the phone. She now needed to go back and pack her things to leave. Xia Jing had come to realize that despite all the efforts she’d made, she had no face to stay here any longer. She didn’t want to continue disturbing her father, her husband, and her son’s lives. Her presence had caused so many bad things, so much trouble. She couldn’t make these things disappear because it had become an unchangeable outcome. Perhaps only by leaving could she restore everything to its original state, as if none of it had ever happened!

Zhang Yichen heard the phone being disconnected, and the unease in his heart intensified. Was his mother really going to do something irreversible? The only thought in his mind was to quickly call his father and ask him to find his mother. Things had happened, and he couldn’t let anything happen to his mother. Everything, even if related to his mother, he couldn’t just treat his mother like a stranger. After all, he shared half of her blood!

Zhang Zhentian was still at home chatting casually with Old Master Zhang, who wanted to confirm once more if his son was truly resolute, even though it was impossible to turn back.

”Zhentian, have you really thought it through? After so many years of marriage, do you really want to end it this way? Can you truly let your wife leave you? You’ve been through so many ups and downs together, if you lose her, can you still be happy?” Old Master Zhang asked Zhentian.

Zhang Zhentian let out a long sigh. He didn’t know how to answer his father. His heart was also conflicted about this matter. He couldn’t bear it, but being a man of his word, having already spoken of divorce, there was no turning back.

”Dad, regarding this matter, I really don’t want to explain anymore. My mind is made up. This marriage must end. We’ve done so many wrong things before, hurt so many people. You and my son have forgiven us, but our hearts still feel guilty. I can’t let us continue to be wrong. You know, throughout these years, I often see the shadows of you and my son in my dreams, sometimes waking up suddenly in fright. I fear that the heavens will give me retribution because I abandoned my father and son. Every time I think of these things, my heart aches terribly, but I have no choice. I can only move forward step by step down the path I have chosen, because I’ve always believed that as long as it’s your chosen path, even if filled with thorns, you must walk it step by step without turning back, because there’s no path waiting for you to step back on. Yet now I understand that many things, it’s not that there is no path back, but whether you choose to turn back. As Buddhism says, goodness and evil will be rewarded, the sea of bitterness has no bounds, turn back to find the shore. Why keep finding endless suffering for yourself? Why not live happily with your family? Dad, the things I didn’t understand before, I understand them all now. I can’t be as selfish as before, abandoning you and my son. I want to be by your side, to show you filial piety, to watch my son grow step by step. I can’t be absent from your lives anymore. The emotional gap of over ten years isn’t something that can be remedied in just a few days and nights, only by always being together can it be filled!”

Old Master Zhang did not expect his son to have such a deep realization this time. However, he still had to counter his son: ”Zhentian, actually you are still making a mistake. You are right, the emotional gap of over ten years cannot be filled in just a few days and nights. Even if you are with us every day in the future, you can’t fill the gap of the previous ten years. The emotional gap of over ten years wasn’t just about feelings, but it was the primary stage for you and your son to establish feelings, the primary stage for you to be filial to me as a father. But you were absent during that crucial stage. Do you think you can remedy it by coming back now?

For so long, I didn’t oppose how you and your wife live. I know that both of you are truly in love, but I still hope you both can calm down a bit and reconsider whether you really want a divorce after calming down, because this is not a small matter for you, for Zhang Corporation, or for your son either. Doing this imposes even greater pressure on your son, don’t you have the heart?”

When Zhang Zhentian heard his father speak this way, his heart indeed felt a bit softened. He couldn’t bear his son suffering any more harm because of him, nor did he want the Zhang Corporation, which his father had built up with hard work, to face any ruinous disaster because of the unhappiness in his marriage. He couldn’t let all this misfortune descend on his father and son anymore. He’d rather all the misfortune fall on him, but fate works like this: even if you’ve made mistakes, it might not be you who suffers but your family.

”Honestly, hearing your advice, my heart has indeed softened a bit. I’m not sure now if I really want to divorce my wife. You’re right, I understand too, the feelings of over ten years of marriage aren’t something that can be easily separated. The marital bond of over ten years cannot be abandoned with just a few words. Together for so many years, over thousands of days and nights, she and I have been through so many storms and never parted. But now, just for a lie, I’m thinking of leaving her. I don’t know if what I’m doing is right or wrong?”

”Since you yourself are not clear about what you truly want in your heart, you shouldn’t make a decision so soon. You should calm down and think carefully about this issue, do you really want to do this? What would be the consequences if you do? Can you guarantee you won’t regret your actions afterward? If you do this and later regret it, who will give you a remedy for your regret when there’s no turning back?”

”Dad, I understand. I also know that what I’m doing is a bit impulsive. Don’t worry, I will seriously consider how to handle this matter properly. I will also give you and my son an answer that doesn’t cause hurt! Sorry for troubling you with this huge issue and asking you to fix it for us, it’s unfilial of me as a son...”

”My child, no matter what you do or what you’ve done, no matter how you’ve let me down, I am your father, I won’t blame my son. Go ahead and do your things, but you must think it through clearly. Don’t let yourself come to regret it years later...

I know you’ve inherited a lot that others might not be able to endure, but it’s exactly because of this that your experience is richer than others.”
