My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1979: Chapter 1773: Ashes

Sometimes I really want to find you immediately. I want to ask clearly, why could you choose to leave me, leaving me in such pain!

Zhang Zhentian looked at the sky with melancholy. Originally, it was an endless blue sky with white clouds, but due to his terrible mood, he felt the whole world had turned gray, the sky became colorless, and the entire world turned pitch black. He could see no glimmer of light; his doomsday had arrived.

Xia Jing saw Zhang Zhentian standing motionless at the entrance of the civil affairs bureau, and she knew her husband’s heart was unwilling to part. But it was her who forcefully brought him here, so what qualification did she have to turn back now? They had both contributed to things reaching this stage step by step. It would be too selfish and irresponsible to blame one person entirely...

Xia Jing’s heart was really troubled, seeing her husband standing there without moving. How she wished time could stop forever at this moment. That way, they would never step into the doors of the civil affairs bureau, there would never be a day of divorce. She just wanted to quietly watch her beloved husband!

After being in love for so long, they still couldn’t escape fate’s arrangement for them, ultimately having no choice but to submit and proceed with the divorce.

Zhang Zhentian saw Xia Jing’s reluctant expression, and he said to Xia Jing: ”Why don’t we not get divorced, just give me another chance. Let’s go home together, wouldn’t it be nice to live happily together? Why does it have to come to this?”

”Since the words have come out, why go back now? As the saying goes, a good horse doesn’t turn back to graze on old pastures. Since you’ve decided, even while kneeling you must see it through to the end. We’ve gone through so much; it’s difficult to simply forget one another. But now, there’s really no road left to take. Since this is the destined outcome, let’s let go and give each other one more chance. Trust me, I won’t let you be sad again.”

”What’s the use of saying this now? It’s all too late. There’s no turning back for either of us. Since we’ve come here, why not step over this threshold with ease and give each other the result we want?”

”Xia Jing, you should know, I don’t want to divorce you, I don’t want to walk through these doors of the civil affairs bureau, I don’t want to see your departing back. Every time I watch you turn and walk away, do you know how heartbroken I feel watching your back? Why don’t you understand my heart for you? These many years as a couple, do you not know me at all? Everything I’ve done for you was for us to live a better life, just so we could live the life we wanted and be happy together in the latter half of our lives. But why are you so unwilling to understand me a little bit more? Often, just a bit more understanding from you would lead to a different outcome, but you didn’t.”

”What’s the use saying these things now? Originally, there was a way back, but all ways back have been blocked by you. I begged you not to divorce me, yet you decisively chose to abandon me, to abandon the feelings we’ve had over ten years, to abandon the bond of fifteen years as bedmates! Since you made such a heartless choice to abandon me, don’t lower your head now to let me return to your side. That really is meaningless, and it makes me feel you’re unworthy of being a man. You disregard the bond between us as husband and wife, so why should I consider you as a part of my life? Wouldn’t that just make me more miserable? Alright, enough said, we’ve come this far, let’s go in and deal with what needs dealing with, so we don’t have to return again later. That would be even more troublesome!”

Xia Jing finished speaking and turned to walk into the doors of the civil affairs bureau. Zhang Zhentian watched Xia Jing’s resolute back, his heart uncomfortable. Xia Jing turned back, saw Zhang Zhentian standing still, and reached out to pull him towards the door, but she couldn’t move him.

”Why can’t you just give me one more chance? Am I so insignificant in your heart? What’s the harm in giving me another chance? I don’t want anything more. What I want is just a simple and happy family!”

”In your heart, for these ten-plus years, have I not given you the feeling of having a home, not created the atmosphere of a happy family that should be? Is that why you chose to treat me this way? You tell me that as long as I return with you, you won’t divorce me in the future. How credible do you think your words are? Since you could so heartlessly propose a divorce this time, what about the second and third times? I don’t want to endure such blows over and over again. Since you can understand this now, let’s thoroughly resolve this matter, so neither of us is so heartbroken.”

Xia Jing finished speaking and directly walked into the entrance of the civil affairs bureau. She wasn’t planning to wait for Zhang Zhentian to come. Zhang Zhentian, with no other choice, slowly walked into the bureau.

Both of them argued in the civil affairs bureau for quite a while before finally calming down. After they calmed down, Xia Jing signed her name on the divorce papers. Zhang Zhentian saw Xia Jing sign the divorce papers without hesitation. He realized that his actions had truly chilled Xia Jing’s heart. Since Xia Jing had made this decision, he shouldn’t force her to continue living with him. Perhaps it was time for him to let go, to let Xia Jing fly on her own.

After Zhang Zhentian thought about it himself, he signed his name on the divorce papers. The clerk handed the divorce certificates to both Zhang Zhentian and Xia Jing. Xia Jing looked at the divorce certificate in her hand, smiling as she said to Zhang Zhentian: ”Congratulations, you finally got rid of me. From now on, you can live happily with Dad and our son, and it’s my time to fly solo without any burden or hindrance!”

”You too, flying solo from now on. You won’t have to worry anymore about me uncovering your lies!”

”Now that we’ve completed all the formalities, you’re free, and we’ll each return to our homes. From now on, we’ll neither see each other nor contact each other. We part ways now without any certainty of meeting again...”

After saying this, Xia Jing turned and left. At the moment she turned, a single large tear rolled down her cheek from the corner of her eye. She felt the wind blow coldly on her face, even though it was obviously a hot day, she felt the chill of winter.

Zhang Zhentian knew Xia Jing was crying, but he said nothing. The more he said, the sadder it became. His heart clearly was not well, yet he still needed to comfort his ex-wife. From today onwards, there would no longer be any spousal relationship between them; they no longer needed to worry about conflicts arising between them. Each could live the life they wanted happy. But why then did his heart feel so troubled?

Even if one day you still leave, I don’t want everything between us to turn to ashes just like that.
