My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1982: Chapter 1776: Who Wants to Be Mediocre?

Everyone wishes to live their life easily, to possess everything they desire.

Zhang Zhentian heard these words from her daughter-in-law, and she realized that all the things she had done over the years were simply unforgivable. After all, what right did she have to ask her family to forgive her for abandoning them and causing them harm? She had forsaken the interests of the entire family for her own happiness and freedom, only to fall harder the higher she climbed, ultimately returning home when there was no road left to take.

”Zhihan, Dad knows you’ve always had opinions about what I did, but there are things I hope to clarify with you. I’m truly not the heartless person you think I am. I know everyone in this family needed me, and during those years, I chose to avoid the responsibilities I should have carried.

Your opinion of me is normal, but do you know? When I chose to come back, when I mustered the courage to return and confess my mistakes, it proved that deep down, I sincerely wanted to return to this family. I couldn’t bear to see you all hurt because of me. I wanted to see my son, to live openly and honorably with this family, and to show everyone that I’m not a degenerate. I hope that one day every member of this family can forgive me and support me, without dwelling on my past mistakes. Those mistakes are like daggers in my heart, causing me unbearable pain.

No one can understand the excitement and joy I felt when I returned to this family after so many years away from my son. Can you know how much I wished to come back here? Now I’ve fulfilled that wish, but some choose to forgive me while others hold onto their biases. I know these biases can’t be erased with a few words, and I’m aware of the hurt I’ve caused you. But do you know? I also want to live happily, and I want you all to see my sincerity in attempting to make amends!

Deep down, I’m aware that the pain I’ve caused can’t be erased, but I’ll do my best to compensate you, to treat you well, and to ensure everyone in this family lives easily, happily, and joyfully—if you are willing to give me this chance!”

Ran Zhihan was only expressing indignation on behalf of her husband, but she hadn’t expected her father would humble himself so much before his children. She felt somewhat embarrassed, wondering if her actions had ultimately led everyone to misunderstand her intentions. She only wished for them to truly recognize her husband’s dependency, for them to genuinely love him, and not to casually abandon their families as before, as it caused pain for everyone!

”Dad, I was wrong in this matter. I shouldn’t have been so selfish, nor should I have spoken to you in this manner. I hope you can understand my intentions as a wife. I can’t bear to see my husband so sad. He has lived too arduously, storing up all the pain himself, just so that his family could live happily. Such a good man, how could I bear to let him be hurt?

Over the years, no one knows how difficult it was for him individually. You may have gathered information from others or conducted investigations, but those results might not be accurate. The only true result is what I saw with my own eyes: he experienced all manner of hardships and built his current success step by step. His brilliant life attracted envy and jealousy, leading many to stab him in the back.

But he never gave up; he continued to persevere because he believed that one day he would live happily, without becoming passive. All he wanted was peace of mind, and to see his family happy. Over the years, he never abandoned anyone in this family.

In truth, there’s no difference between people. The greatest difference between you and him is that he endured all the hardships to protect his family, whereas you chose freedom over your entire world, disregarding family ties, which in your eyes seem insignificant. In his eyes, family is everything.

Hmm, perhaps this is the difference. No one knows everyone’s true intentions, and no one can see the motives that lie in another’s heart; only one’s own feelings are understood.

I envy you for the tacit understanding between spouses. That kind of understanding is imperceptible and indescribable. But what I don’t envy about you is my husband surpasses you, as he never thought of abandoning us. Regardless of whether he loves me more or the family more, family is paramount in his eyes. He can forgo money, freedom, and personal joy, but he cannot abandon his family!

Dad, I’m not blaming you. I just want you to know that what you abandoned wasn’t just your family, but all familial ties. During these days, I’ve thought a lot. Regardless, you both remain our parents, and we can’t shut you out forever. I sincerely welcome you back to be part of this family, hoping our big family with thrive and everyone will live happily without dwelling on past sorrows.

Mom, Dad, you don’t need to feel guilty anymore. Some things are in the past; no one should mention them again. Today, we’ve aired everything out; from now on, living peacefully is enough. If we keep clutching onto past events, no one will be happy, right?”

”You’re right, child, but after making so many mistakes, how can our hearts truly feel undeserving? We have souls, and we don’t want our family to be hurt, yet our actions caused you such pain!”

In such a vast world, how many people are willing to live mediocre lives, when at that time, it’s all they could do?
