My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1985: Chapter 1779: Unnecessary

Now I realize that sometimes it is needless to reach for things you can’t hold onto, just like sand in your hand. If you can’t hold it, you might as well let it go.

Zhang Yichen understands now all these things; there’s nothing he can do. However, he absolutely won’t let his grandfather get hurt again, no matter who it is. If anyone harms his beloved grandfather again, he certainly won’t let it go easily. If you are persistent, you can solve many things; if you can’t solve it, then don’t even try.

Ran Zhihan watched her husband, hesitant to speak, knowing he hadn’t finished his words. Perhaps he felt restrained in front of her. But if she were to step out of the hospital room, who would know what her husband might say afterward? Maybe that outcome is something she couldn’t bear. Given that, should she choose to leave to avoid suspicion?

Old Master Zhang, since opening his eyes, has been watching the two people in front of him. They both seem to have concerns but don’t know where to start. Maybe there’s a secret between the two they can’t tell him. Now, he shouldn’t meddle; he should let them calm down to decide what course to take. But even so, can he wait for that day?

Zhang Yichen knows his grandfather has noticed something. His grandfather is such a smart person; how could he not see the changes in his emotions? The formerly loving couple suddenly becomes tense; no one knows how to explain. If he said something, would it affect his dear grandfather’s condition, worsening it further? If it really came to that, how could he bear such consequences, the guilt in his heart would be too severe? He never thought he’d come to this point with his grandfather.

”Grandfather, some things you shouldn’t worry about. Take care of your health. Just being able to discharge healthily is enough for us. We only desire our dear family members to be safe and sound. Others might not think this way, but I definitely do. Even for my sake, you should take care of your health!” Zhang Yichen knows his grandfather cares for him the most. So he wants his grandfather to rest assured that the best reason is to consider him. Only in this way can his grandfather lie in bed without overthinking. Perhaps he doesn’t realize Elder Zhang still cares for Zhang Ni!

”Yichen, even grandpa doesn’t know how things have become so overwhelming this time. I’m sorry for not telling you about my problems, and having the heart condition making you worry and frightened. Don’t worry; I will take good care of myself and won’t collapse. I should be your support for a lifetime, letting you walk safely through the happiest paths of your life. You know that maybe your world doesn’t need me now, but I still hope to be your solid support, silently backing you up. It’s not easy, so don’t ruin what you should have due to trivialities!”

Although Old Master Zhang didn’t explicitly say it, Zhang Yichen knows his grandfather has reasons for saying these words. He glanced back at his wife, realizing her face was already full of tears. At that moment, he discovered his wife was close, yet her heart felt far away. What should he do?

The happiness of their married life shattered in an instant. Originally, they could have lived comfortably and happily, but that life disappeared. How could his heart accept it?

”Zhihan, if Yichen did anything during my coma to wrong you or said something unpleasant, I hope you can be magnanimous and let it go. I wish for you two to live happily without quarrels over small things. You know, it’s really not easy for a couple to be together. You both have to think about it; it’s not easy to meet, know each other, commit, and stay together amidst a sea of people. This is your destiny. Don’t let it disappear because of momentary anger!”

Ran Zhihan thought: So grandfather knows everything. He simply doesn’t speak and buries all the suffering deeply inside. What should I do to relieve my grandfather’s pain? I truly have too many regrets when I think back. If I hadn’t insisted on doing those things, how would today be like this? This is all my own doing. What right do I have to blame others? It’s better to peacefully spend the rest of my life with my husband. That’s what’s important. We got together to know each other, commit, and stay together. Why let this distrust lead to distancing each other more?

Ran Zhihan and Zhang Yichen chatted for a while with Old Master Zhang in the ward before they left one after the other. The two of them went to the small garden at the hospital entrance, realizing they should clarify these matters. Otherwise, burying such issues in their hearts wouldn’t bring happiness to anyone.

”Yichen!”

”Zhihan!”

”You go first.”

Both spoke at the same time.

”I’m sorry. I know seeing my father behind your back made you uncomfortable. But I hope you can understand; I did it for your good. I just didn’t want your relationship with dad to be so tense. I wanted to ease your relationship, but it became more complicated, causing you heartache over my actions. If you can forgive me, I’d accompany you for life, as long as you don’t stay mad at me!”

”Actually, calmly reflecting on this, it’s not entirely your fault. My attitude was poor too. You’re right; amidst a sea of people, for us to be partners shows our relationship is truly fated by heaven...”

Sometimes, all I fear is that very sentence, ”You’re really unnecessary!”
