My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1956: Chapter 1750: Wishful Thinking

Some things, knowing they are a luxury, are still held tightly in one’s hand, unwilling to let go.

”Child, these years have truly been unfair to you. You have always stayed by my grandson’s side, never leaving him. He’s suffered from his parents abandoning him. If it weren’t for you, he might not be standing before me alive today. Looking back on all the past events, my heart is also in pain. If I had taken a little more time to be with him, not just focused on his training, would he have suffered less? Could he have been happier than he is now? Many times, I don’t even know what I have done. I watched helplessly as he almost became a demon. He always demanded so much from himself, forcing himself, never allowing himself to show weakness to anyone. He did this just to prove to his parents that he’s not useless. He wanted to make them understand that abandoning him was a huge loss. To prove himself to his parents, he endured so much hardship, leaving a trail one step at a time. And that trail is not an ordinary one but a combination of blood and tears. Looking back at the past, I now realize that every decision I made was wrong. If only he could live happily, why did I have to demand so much? If not for my relentless demands, how could he have ended up where he is today? And how could his parents abandon him for over a decade without ever coming back? Also, if it weren’t for me, how could he have been abandoned by his parents during these diamond commemoration years? He never received any love from them, and it is precisely because of this that his heart is empty, an emptiness only you could fill. Now, though he says he’s forgiven his parents, deep down he still resents them. What child wouldn’t resent their parents for abandoning them for over ten years without reason? Don’t be fooled by your husband’s cheerful demeanor every day. His heart is the most tormented. He endures the pain of abandonment from his parents, and yet always puts on a brave face for others. This is because he cannot let anyone see how fragile he truly is. If his enemies saw just how vulnerable his heart is, they would certainly exploit this weakness to deal a fatal blow. To keep the company I care about, his reputation, and his parents’ so-called dignity and pride safe, he struggles every step of the way. Yet now his parents still won’t come back. How does this leave his heart to deal with it? Doesn’t this make him feel that all these years of painstaking efforts are in vain?”

Ran Zhihan listened to what Old Master Zhang said. Her heart wasn’t at ease at all. Yes, every word her grandfather said was right. She knew how hard her husband had lived over the years, but he never said it. Because he believed in himself and didn’t want his wife to see his vulnerability. Every time her husband was most lonely and lost, he would stay by her side. But he couldn’t, because she had to make her husband believe he was the strongest.

”Grandpa, honestly, watching my beloved husband suffer over the years has been agonizing for me, too. But I have no choice because I understand how much he values his pride. He may not say it, but what man doesn’t value his pride? As his wife, I should consider the bigger picture, putting him first in all things, not selfishly pursuing my happiness. I’ve seen through everything now. I just want to be happy when he is happy, and his greatest joy is my greatest happiness. Now I am one with him, and I will never leave him. We will join hands to build a world together, and now that he has already propped up that world, and I have love’s fruition between us, I have no regrets in this life!”

”You really are a silly child. How can you be so foolish? Can’t you think things through another way? Think about whether you truly have no regrets for every decision you’ve made. Although I understand that your husband has given a lot for you, compared to what you have given for him, it’s like small streams compared to a river. Both of you have suffered just as much as one another, and this torment was all thanks to his parents. The pain brought by his mom and dad is unforgettable because it’s harm from an elder to a younger generation. That kind of harm isn’t something you can forget just like that. I understand how painful it is for you both inside, but I hope you also know that when his parents come back, it means they’ve truly regretted their actions. When that time comes, you must forgive them no matter what and welcome them back into the family. A family united can make the household prosper... after all, harmony in the family leads to prosperity...”

...

While the two of them were still discussing these matters, Old Master Zhang’s phone rang; it was Xia Jing calling.

”Why are you calling me? Are you going to say once more that you don’t want to come back?”

”Dad, it’s not like that. I’m calling this time to tell you that I’ve thought it through. I should come home to be with my son, daughter-in-law, and grandson. I’ve missed out on my son’s growth process, and I should not miss my grandson’s. For my grandson and my son, it is a kind of hurt! I wonder, now that I’m saying I want to come back home, is it too late? Dad, I really have thought it through now. Please give me one more chance. I won’t be as absurd and casually abandon my family like before. Now I’ve really realized how important family is. Without family, even if someone is happy outside it doesn’t matter.”

Old Master Zhang was pleased that her daughter-in-law understood all these things so quickly, but his heart was still a bit unhappy. Why did his daughter-in-law understand, but his son couldn’t?

When I finally understood everything, I realized that a luxury could only ever be just that. To turn luxury into hope, I must exert a thousand times the effort.
