My Alleged Husband

Chapter 481: Chapter 460 Because Thus_1

”Since you’ve said so much today, let me tell you what I’m thinking. Do you know why your son refuses to forgive you? Do you know why your own father repeatedly had me turn you away from his door? Do you know why your wife left you, never to be with you again?” Ran Zhihan was nearly driven to fury, her speech becoming unchecked and unrestrained. She no longer cared about other considerations, wanting only to express her true inner thoughts, for that was the only way she could feel relieved. Why should she hurt her own feelings for people who didn’t care about her? Shouldn’t she live for herself at least once?

”Why?”

”Because the wrongs you’ve committed forced them to punish you, leading them to choose to not forgive you again and again. The mistakes you’ve made have never seen an end, so they resolved to never see you again in this lifetime. Because you’ve hurt me, their dearest, again and again, they chose to turn you away repeatedly. Because you’ve abandoned your grandfather time after time, he no longer wishes to have any dealings with you, his son, for the rest of his life. Do you want to hear more?”

Zhang Zhentian slapped Ran Zhihan, ”Do you think you’re something special? Do you think I’m unaware of what you’ve said? So that’s how you act in front of me, and yet you put on a completely different face in front of your husband and grandfather. You’re a woman whose actions don’t match her words; how dare you be with my son? You do not deserve it! Doesn’t everyone know the things you’ve done? Why then come here and pretend to be so noble? You’re just a commoner’s daughter; although my wife is too, she lives a fulfilling life, doing whatever she pleases. But you? Desperate to reach your goals, you stoop to any level, playing the victim to win others’ sympathy. Is this what you rely on? How is that any different from a prostitute?”

”Dad, I still acknowledge you and call you ’father’. Can you not insult me when you talk? After all, I am a lady who has kept herself pure. Often, you know it yourself; it’s not I who have stirred trouble or spoken slander. Rather, it’s the things you and mom have done that my husband and grandfather simply cannot accept. That’s why they’ve turned you away. How can you shift all the blame onto me? Am I naturally supposed to bear the consequences of the mistakes you made? I’m not that kind of person. I hope you can show some respect for me. By disrespecting me, you’re disrespecting mom, since I am also a woman and so is she. By speaking like this, where do you place your own wife, or even your son? Don’t you think before you speak or act? Do you think grandfather feels good in his heart when you speak like this? Do you think by talking about your wife this way, your son will continue to recognize you? You’re so selfish. Maybe if you hadn’t spoken to me like this today, I would have silently helped you, but now that you’ve insulted me, my husband, grandfather, and mom, I will definitely not help you again. Am I expected to keep putting up with this again and again? I’m not a saint; I can’t keep treating people kindly after they’ve treated me badly.”

”From the beginning, you never intended to help me, so why even say all this now? Do you think it adds any meaning? Your words just make me lose respect for you. Don’t you realize what you say, what you do? Did you forget as soon as you said it? A moment ago you spoke and acted one way, don’t you remember? And now you’re saying this to me; do you think it’s right? Lie after lie – don’t you ever tire of it?”

”The one who repeatedly tells lies, isn’t that you? You’ve hurt everyone who loved you, and everything you’ve done has been unacceptable to everyone, yet you never show remorse! When you make a mistake, don’t think it will never be discovered, because it’s impossible. Once you’ve done something, no matter what, others will find out it was you. If you don’t want people to know, don’t do it at all. After making a mistake, why would you think hiding it will prevent the inevitable consequence? No one will forgive you simply because you tried to conceal your actions. They will only see you as a man incapable of owning up to the consequences of his mistakes, and they’ll look down on you. Dad, I only want to tell you this much now. I still hope you can try to understand these issues from our perspective. Do you think the words you’ve said don’t hurt us deeply? We do consider you as the most important person in our lives, but when you act, do you consider us as important? We all wish to keep living with you – do you understand that? Yet now you treat us this way, and we have no choice but to stop existing in your world. I thought about pleading with grandfather to let you come home, to speak on your behalf to mom so she might agree to stay by your side. But now I see it’s not necessary; it would only reinforce your belief that I’m always putting on a facade.”

Although Ran Zhihan had known her father-in-law disapproved of her relationship with his son, she never expected to endure such a scene again, renewing the painful words from years past. How could she face others after her own father said such unbearable things? Why did these people treat her this way? Was it not good to live a happy life together? Did they have to push her and her husband apart to find peace within themselves? What had she done wrong to suffer such torment?

”Because of what you’ve said, you’ve made all of this inevitable. Since it’s come to this, why should we keep talking? Let’s not contact each other in the future. Remember, today you said these words to me. I am your daughter-in-law, yet you speak to me this way. I have nothing to say. From now on, don’t come to me for help...”
