My Alleged Husband

Chapter 452: Chapter 431: Is it Really Her?_1

Ran Zhihan listened to the words spoken by Zhang Yichen, and she was stunned. Although there had long been suspicions in their hearts about the caregiver, when the truth was indeed revealed to be this person, their hearts still couldn’t accept such an outcome. She couldn’t understand why such a thing would happen to herself—had he returned for the sole purpose of taking revenge on their family? But so much time had passed; even if there was great enmity towards their family, it should have dissipated by now. Why was his heart still so twisted?

”Yichen, are you really certain it was this person and not someone else? This matter is of great importance; I don’t wish it was him. If it truly is her, then I really don’t want to have anything to do with him anymore. This matter is so important to grandfather because he also wants to know who is behind it! But if this is truly brought to light and it turns out it was him, how are we supposed to explain it to grandfather? It will undoubtedly be a blow to him. So many years have passed, but why has the hatred in her heart for grandfather not vanished just because he drove them out of the house back then?”

”I’ve investigated this matter thoroughly, and it is indeed him. At first, I couldn’t believe that this matter would once again be linked to my biological mother. I thought that after being away for a few years, she would have changed and wouldn’t do those things she did before. But unexpectedly, her actions have become even worse upon her return. I don’t know if she did it deliberately or unintentionally, or perhaps she didn’t even know that this was our son, right?”

”Regardless, I still can’t believe that it really was him. I hope you can continue to look into it and thoroughly clarify this matter, not wronging anyone. After all, this affair involves too much, and carelessness could wrong an innocent person, damaging the kinship and affection between us. I don’t want such a thing to happen in our family. I know this matter is also very important to grandfather, who greatly values the child between the two of us. But it’s precisely because of grandfather’s attention that we are constrained in our actions and dare not thoroughly investigate. If it turns out to be true, then how should we face grandfather?”

”I am also aware of the cause and effect involved in this matter, which is why I dare not proceed with the investigation. Because I don’t want to worry grandfather, I have not yet revealed to him the suspicion in my heart—even though it is already pointing towards my biological mother. I feel that I can’t make a hasty decision about this matter; I should delve deeper to verify if it truly was her. If it turns out to be true, then there’s nothing we can do. Grandfather will eventually learn the truth, whether he did it out of ignorance or deliberately, seeking revenge against our family. I can’t hide it from grandfather. The wrongs he’s done are too numerous. In the past, I always thought his actions were excusable, born out of coercion and helplessness. But later, I realized that everything he did followed his true nature—it’s what he wanted to do in his heart, proving that he doesn’t care about the family! With this being the case, why should I forcefully keep her by my side? I know that my son has felt somewhat imbalanced because he has had the company of his grandparents over these years. But I believe my child is sensible and well-behaved; he knows that these matters are beyond his parents’ control and are unrelated to us. It’s just because his grandparents were too willful and reckless, and they left home. To be honest, my heart aches at the thought that we might have wronged our child over this matter. I never imagined I would ever wrong my own son over anything, even if what he did was slightly wrong. I wouldn’t want him to be hurt in the slightest because of me; yet ultimately, I selfishly chose to wrong her to make him understand that not everyone in the world will trust him unconditionally. There will always be some who doubt him, and if he doesn’t prove his innocence and correctness, no one will believe him!”

After hearing this, Ran Zhihan finally understood—so this was what her husband meant. She had always thought him to be too harsh and strict, unwilling to trust their son. But the truth was not as she had thought. Upon knowing the truth, it was as though a weight had been lifted from her heart. She felt that the matter wasn’t as complicated as it seemed. Why make it so complicated?

”I know what you’re thinking, but wife, I have to tell you, do not think that this matter is not that complicated—it indeed is very complicated. If not handled properly, it could make our entire family look bad. If this was truly done by my mother, then how should our family choose to face it? When my parents learn the truth, how will their hearts cope with facing my son, facing grandfather? Everyone must take responsibility for their wrongdoings; ignorance does not exempt one from the errors they made. One day everyone will learn to grow up, many years have passed, and they remain as before. Perhaps she truly didn’t know this was our son. If she had known, she might have never met our son or inquired about him, let alone intercepted him and prevented him from coming home. Don’t all these things fail to make sense? The only explanation could be that he genuinely didn’t realize this was our son.”

”But even if he didn’t know this was our son, how then do we explain it to grandfather? Do you think grandfather would believe such an excuse? Grandfather is no ordinary person; he sees through things, understanding what’s right and wrong. He knows when things are clear as day, and you can’t deceive him if you tried. Maybe we should just be honest and tell grandfather everything.”
