My Alleged Husband

Chapter 485: Chapter 464: Hypocritical Love_1

Zhang Sheng Tian thought about the idea of a false love, and a disbelieving thought suddenly arose within him—could his wife’s love for him throughout these years have also been a facade? If the affection she held for him all these years was nothing but a sham, then this woman was truly terrifying. Having stayed by his side for so many years without the slightest slip showing through. The more he thought about it, the more frightened he became. He felt that he had to face his wife and ask her clearly about this matter, otherwise, he’d wake up in fright even during his sleep, and he certainly wouldn’t get any rest.

This time, when Xia Jing saw that her husband had tried to call her, she was unwilling to answer the phone at all costs. She had already made herself perfectly clear, so why did this man keep pestering her? Could it be that she really couldn’t get rid of him? What would it take to finally free herself from him?

Zhang Zhentian made call after call, but his wife just wouldn’t pick up. He knew that this time, he had truly broken his beloved wife’s heart, but no matter what, he had to confront her face to face and clear things up. How could his own heart ever be at ease? If her love for him was truly so hollow, then he had to come to terms with it. Allowing her to live happily would be enough; he should have learned to let go a long time ago, to bless his wife and let her pursue the life she desired. He pondered whether she had ever been truly happy during all these years by his side, realizing he had never asked what her happiness consisted of.

Zhang Zhentian was relentless. He dialed over and over, but no one answered. So, he sent a message: ”If you still consider me a friend, if there is still a place for me in your heart, then please answer my call. There’s something very important I need to ask you, something that concerns us both. If I can clear this matter and the truth turns out to be as I suspect, then I will definitely not bother you anymore. I’ll give you the freedom you desire so that you can seek the happiness and life you wish for.”

Xia Jing was shaken when she read the message from her husband. What did he mean by ’getting the answers he wanted,’ then giving up on her? What did such words imply? They had already spoken so clearly; was there really something left to communicate? Perhaps this matter truly was important; otherwise, why would he have the gall to call again after she had hung up so many times?

”If you have something to say, I hope you’ll say it all at once this time. If today passes, I will never answer your calls or reply to your messages again. I hope you have thought through every single question you want to ask me before you come to me. Otherwise, you’ll lose the chance to ever speak to me again. We shouldn’t keep dragging things out like this, making everyone unhappy. We should be happy, right? Breaking up isn’t shameful. I just know that if you truly don’t have me in your heart anymore, then please don’t force me to stay by your side. That won’t make either of us happy. Let’s give each other an out, okay? Let’s not corner each other with no way back, with no escape!”

The two of them came to the lakeside, and Zhentian spoke to his wife: ”I don’t want to say anything else today, I just want to ask you one question. I hope you will answer me honestly, expressing your truest thoughts, okay?”

”Ask.”

”I want to know what kind of love you have had for me over the years, what kind of emotions they were. Can you tell me clearly? This is what I most want to know. If you tell me the answer today, I will consider whether to let you go. Then, I can grant you the freedom you want, and you can lead the life you desire, without me pestering you every day, never giving up.”

”I have to admit that at the beginning of our relationship, the feelings I gave to you were truly from the heart, and I really wanted to spend my life with you. But gradually, I realized that it wasn’t the most suitable life for us when I became pregnant, and from the moment we abandoned our son and left our hometown, the love I had for you slowly changed and faded. Everything you did seemed to be an act, and I lost my trust in you. How could a marriage without trust be happy? I never knew when my feelings for you had deteriorated to this extent; I never thought about leaving you before that moment. But the day I saw you, I realized I couldn’t let you go, I simply couldn’t let go, those feelings were the most sincere. Even though you and I weren’t the most suitable pair, I still hoped we could stay together, living out our lives. But then you cold-heartedly took me to the civil affairs bureau to get divorced. From that moment on, I felt utterly disillusioned. Any feelings I had for you after that were hollow, not heartfelt anymore. Sincere feelings disappeared the moment you abandoned me, never to return again. We have completely lost our understanding; what love is left between us then? In fact, you should be very clear in your heart, and I know what you really mean by asking me this today. I’ve told you all my answers now, so do as you will. I won’t have any complaints!”

Zhang Zhentian had not expected that he would matter so much in the eyes of his wife. It seemed that he had truly wronged her. If he hadn’t been so obstinate about the divorce, perhaps things wouldn’t have come to this. Often, he was the one making the mistakes, yet why did he always lay the blame on her, chilling her heart? It was understandable that she was unwilling to come back to him. It appeared he truly had to let go completely in order to make his wife happy. His love hadn’t been false; instead, he had judged her intentions by his own narrow thoughts...
