My Alleged Husband

Chapter 475: Chapter 454: Seeking Help from Old Master Zhang_1

Zhang Zhentian knew that no matter what he said to his wife now, it would be useless, because she would not believe him anymore. With so many mistakes he had made, why should she forgive him again and again? He was not a god, and even a god should not act so recklessly. When one makes mistakes, one must learn to bear the consequences and to grow up. People often make mistakes unknowingly and also grow up slowly without realizing it. When a person learns to grow up, maybe everything will have changed by then, but the difficulty of one’s growth is something that no one else can fully understand. Only when looking back does one realize that there were many good things, as well as many hardships and difficulties, during the time of growth that they had undergone.

”Since that’s the case, you’ve already made such a decision, then I hope you will seriously consider my suggestion. If you still have me in your heart, please don’t be so heartless as to abandon me, my heart truly hurts beyond measure. I don’t want our relationship to just dissipate like this; a decade of marriage can’t be severed so easily. And those happy years we spent together, I can never forget them in this lifetime. Isn’t it worth giving each other one more chance? Do we really need to push each other to a dead end, where there’s no turning back, to be happy? Why won’t you let me stay by your side to take care of you? Even though I’ve made many mistakes in the past, I can always change. Everyone says to err is human, to forgive divine, isn’t it? Isn’t it more important to become a good person after giving up bad habits than to kill that person?”

”I know you’re reluctant to let go of me, but many things are beyond my control. Once a decision has been made, one cannot simply change everything because of a word or action. We’ve missed out on so much, do we still need to continue wasting each other’s time? Do you think that’s worth it for you? Doesn’t it hurt me too? A family that could have been happy and contented was ruined by our selfish actions at the time; do you think we still have the dignity to continue living together? Doesn’t that disrespect the elders who have invested in us, the relatives who have been in agony because of us?”

Zhang Zhentian knew that Xia Jing’s words were all very reasonable, but he just couldn’t accept such things happening to him. He still hoped that his shamelessness could salvage his wife’s already broken heart. He didn’t want to just give up on his wife; how could he forget about the years of marital affection? If a relationship could be forgotten so easily, then it would prove that there was no real emotional investment between these people. If there was a true investment of feelings in a relationship, then it certainly couldn’t be easily forgotten!

”I know that what you’re saying is for my good, but I still can’t forget. For me, as long as you’re happy, that’s all that matters. As long as you can live every day with joy in the life you want, in the world you desire, that’s enough for me. My demands are not many; I don’t dare to expect anything else in this life. I just hope that the person I love can live happily for a lifetime, that’s enough, even if that happiness isn’t provided by me. I know I can no longer make you happy because you no longer have the desire to live on with me. Without this desire, you will never be happy or joyful with me. I’ve always selfishly wanted to be with you, but I’ve ignored your feelings. However, I hope you can understand that everything I do, every action I take, is because I love you!”

After saying this, Zhang Zhentian left. He didn’t want to say anything more. He called his father for help, thinking that perhaps only his biological father could help him now, even though his father had just raged at him for his actions. Regardless, he couldn’t bear such things happening to him and could only pray to his father for now.

Just as Old Master Zhang was sleeping soundly at home, his phone rang. Seeing that it was his own son calling, he didn’t know whether to answer. He had already made his stance clear; what did his son want now? Was he going to beg again, or concoct another lie to manipulate his sympathy? He couldn’t take it anymore. After hanging up the phone, Zhentian persisted, calling again and again. Unable to bear the ringing, Old Master Zhang reluctantly answered the call.

”Didn’t I make myself clear already? What are you calling me for now? What lie are you going to tell to deceive me this time? You’ve made so many mistakes; don’t you realize it’s time to turn back? Is it really that hard for you to reform? Do you know how painful it was for me when you told me those lies? I thought you would treat me, your father, with a little more importance, but in the end, I realized that to you, I was worthless because you have no regard for me in your heart. How can you tell such tremendous lies to your own father, how can I ever trust anything you say to me from now on?”

”Dad, I called you today because I need a favor. I just met with Xia Jing and we had a discussion. I know it was wrong of me to come see you that day, and I know I hurt you. But could you please help me, talk to your daughter-in-law, and ask her not to leave me? If Xia Jing leaves, my life will be unbearable. You wouldn’t want to see your son in such pain, right? So I beg you, please talk to her. No matter what I did wrong in the past or any mistakes I’ve made, you always hoped I would live happily, right? So, as your son, I am begging you, please help. I apologize for every wrong thing I’ve done and every wrong word I’ve said to you before; I will do anything as long as you can help me...”
