My Alleged Husband

Chapter 478: Chapter 457: No Way Out_1

Zhang Zhentian knew he had become a person with nowhere to turn; no matter where he went, no one was willing to help him. He had done too many wrongs, and there was not a single person willing to sincerely help him even once. The wrongs he had committed had deeply hurt everyone. Why bother asking others for help? It would be better to plead with himself; perhaps a miracle might happen to him one day.

When everyone repeatedly refused Zhang Zhentian’s requests, their hearts ached. No one had imagined that a family once so close could end up with such a fate. Nobody could predict your next move or what you would end up losing. Everything followed your own nature, and every wrong deed would eventually be punished, a punishment that would surely be unforgettable for the rest of your life.

Old Master Zhang saw his son’s dispirited appearance and felt immense pain in his heart. He knew if he helped his son once more, the outcome might indeed be different, but he still chose to refuse. Helping him would only encourage his lawlessness and ungratefulness. Such actions would ultimately harm his son, not help, so he resolutely refused his son’s plea.

”Could it be that I, Zhentian, will truly be doomed to live out the rest of my life alone? No, I refuse. I still have plenty of life to live joyfully and freely. Why should I destroy my own life here? It would cause me so much pain. Why has fate treated me this way? Why?”

Finally, Zhentian begged in front of Ran Zhihan.

”Zhihan, I know there were many things in the past that were Dad’s fault. Dad is sorry for hurting you so much. But now, I really have nowhere to turn. Perhaps you are the only one who can help me. Please help me. Don’t let your mom leave me. You know what your mom means to me. Over the years, I realize both your mom and I have caused you so much harm. These injuries may be irreparable in this lifetime, but I hope you can give us one more chance, a chance to genuinely make amends and be by your side. I’ve even gone to your grandfather, to your husband, but none can be found. They are unwilling to help me. Now you really are my only hope. Please help me!”

Ran Zhihan didn’t know what to do. No matter what she did, it would be a mistake. To help or not to help rested on a single thought. Yet the person before her was her husband’s father, her own father-in-law. Both her husband and grandfather had decided not to help. As their daughter-in-law, should she intervene in this affair? If she did involve herself, how would her husband and grandfather view her? Was she really going to play the role of the infamous good person?

”Dad, it’s not that I don’t want to help you, but I truly don’t know what to do. My husband and grandfather have both decided not to help you, and as a member of their family, as the wife in the Zhang Family, how can I go against them to help you? You know what you’ve done yourself. I know you’ve done many things that hurt me, but I don’t care about those. What I care about is my husband’s thoughts. If my husband agrees to help you, then I will not hesitate to do so. But if they are unwilling, then I have nothing to say, and I certainly cannot act in such a manner, as doing so would mean betraying my husband.”

”Silly child, you should know what a stubborn man your husband is. He’s just too proud to let go of his face. If you help me, your relationship with your husband will only get better; he will treat you even better, won’t he? I am his biological father; even if we have many unpleasantnesses between us, he cannot possibly disown his own father. Sometimes you need to put yourself in someone else’s shoes, right? Something so simple, you always make it so complicated. The more complicated matters become, the worse the situation will get. If you helped me quietly, it would be a better outcome for everyone. Why are you unwilling to do that?”

”Dad, it’s not that I’m unwilling to help you or do it, but that I can’t do such a thing. If I did, my relationship with my husband could fall apart over this. If I take this step, he might lose his temper and never speak to me again. I know I’m being very selfish by doing this, but who isn’t selfish for the sake of their own family? If someone isn’t selfish for their family, then it only shows they don’t care about their family, right? You should understand your son’s character even better than I do. No one can change the decisions he makes, and no one dares to act against his wishes. If I did this for you today, I might lose my own family, even if our relationship has been good, and there would be a wedge between us!”

”But now I truly have no other choice. If I weren’t completely out of options, I definitely wouldn’t come to ask for your help. I’ve never asked anything of you in my life, and this is the first time. But I didn’t expect that when I do ask for your help, you would have such reasons to refuse me. I know your family matters more to you than we, your relatives, do. Because it’s your family that you care about. I can’t say anything else, lest your husband comes after me!”

Ran Zhihan truly didn’t know what to say anymore. On one hand was her father-in-law, and on the other, her husband’s decision. Whichever side she helped, she would offend the other, only pleasing one party. So why shouldn’t she be selfish and make her husband happy? She knew that it was very selfish of her to make such a decision, but she really had no choice and did not want to be caught in the middle, becoming distressed from both sides. She had to abide by her husband’s decisions for the rest of her life, not defy them, while her father-in-law’s decision she could acknowledge or ignore. She would just respect her husband’s decision. Perhaps this is what a wife should do, right?
