My Alleged Husband

Chapter 483: Chapter 462 Fear_1

”Who told you I’m afraid to divorce your son? I’m not afraid. If it’s divorce, then so be it. Who am I afraid of, really? You think without your son I can’t live on? Don’t forget, I’m also an international student who studied abroad now. What can’t I do? I have my own career, and I can still live the life I want. Who says I must cling to your son’s side my whole life to achieve the happiness I want?”

”Oh, look who’s making a fuss now. Just a moment ago, I didn’t know who it was admitting their family was so poor they couldn’t afford to study abroad and that the money came from their husband’s family. Now you’re brazen enough to talk back to your father-in-law in Shijiazhuang. Some people really have the thickest skin. After doing so many ’good deeds,’ it’s amazing no one’s noticed. Or maybe you’re sneaking around behind the scenes, cheating on men, who knows!”

”Dad, is there a need to make your words so unpleasant? Cheating on men? Can’t you speak more nicely? I’ve never thought about living with anyone else while being with your son. What right do you have to say such things about me? This is a serious insult to my character, and do you know that speaking in this way is against the law? I could take you to court for this.”

”Then go ahead, do you think I’m scared of you? You know what you’ve done. You said you never thought about being with anyone else while with my son, that’s what everybody would say. My son is rich, an economic king of the world, who wouldn’t want to be with him? Unlike some people who’ll be broke their whole lives and are nothing but local thugs. I still don’t know what got into my son when he first fell for you, the more I think about it, the stranger it seems. How did you seduce my son and climb to your position? It’s just incredible how those wealthy daughters with their tears have nowhere to cry. They’re so kind, so beautiful, so elegant, unlike you with your fat body and a waist like a bucket!”

Ran Zhihan was at a loss for words.

Zhang Zhentian knew his words had become increasingly inappropriate, but he felt he had no choice. He knew if he didn’t assert his authority as a father now, his daughter-in-law would walk all over him later. Watching his daughter-in-law become increasingly unruly, blatantly disregarding him, the old man, he couldn’t help but fear that she might say something awful to him or even become violent. He certainly couldn’t allow such things to happen. He was surprised to realize how cunning this woman was. Whether she was with his son for money or not, after all these years together and having children, he admitted that his words were indeed too hurtful. Yet sometimes he wondered how many people truly empathize with others, how many are genuinely sincere. Isn’t everyone pursuing their own goals, with ulterior motives and schemes? Often, he didn’t know what to do, feeling numb. If he wanted to get along peacefully with his daughter-in-law, his son certainly wouldn’t let him return home. Perhaps, after this ruckus, his son might just agree to let him come back home. You never know.

”You really didn’t need to speak to me this way. By doing so, you’re also demeaning your own son. I’m the wife your son wholeheartedly wanted to be with. What does that say about your son, according to you? You’re just indirectly insulting him. Actually, you’re bitter towards your son because he doesn’t want you to come back home. Each word you say drips with jealousy. But have you ever really considered it? With what you’ve done, why should anyone unconditionally want you back in the house? Could it be that someone has to be abandoned time and again before they’ll be content?” Ran Zhihan said to Zhang Zhentian, ”No matter what you say about me today, I still regard you as my father because you are my husband’s father. I could never be excessive towards you. I admit some of my previous words to you were indeed too much, but I had no choice; your words to me were even more hurtful. After so many years with your son, if you don’t know the kind of person I am, doesn’t your father? Even if no one else understands me, my conscience is clear. I remember every single thing I’ve done and never wronged your son. I will not admit to something I didn’t do because it would not only hurt the relationship between me and your son but also create a rift between us. Sometimes, trying so hard to prove oneself isn’t really beneficial. When the time comes, everything will naturally fall into place. Why should we be sad about some bad things and drag others down with us, hurting ourselves and others? Everyone has their own life, their own dreams and goals. We shouldn’t give up our original lives and goals just because of some people. That’s just blind conformity, and in the end, you might not be as important in their eyes as you thought. The things you said to me today, I would never say to anyone else. Rest assured that if one day you understand what I’m telling you now, it will have been worth it. You won’t have criticized me in vain for being a poor girl. Even though I’m poor, my ambition is not. I will always stand by my parents. If you despise me for being poor and want to come back home, then I can separate from your son. It’s not about fear, it’s my genuine wish for your family to reunite. As long as your family is together, I’m happy. I’m not rebellious, nor have I committed unforgivable sins. Everything I do is driven by the hope that the people I love and care about will be by my side, even if our days are uneventful, isn’t it enough that we are happy together?”
