Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

The vegetables are almost ready, once skewered, they can be sold.

Second Aunt uses the grain they brought for cooking, there’s still quite a lot. The family will send more before the county exam, so there’s no need to save, it can last for more than half a month even with four more people.

In the past two years, most of the surplus grain from their family was bought entirely by the Agricultural Officer during tax collection.

It seems the seeds are enough too, so this year the Agricultural Officer finally let their family go.

In May and June this year, when the wheat and sorghum from Fu’an Village were harvested, Mrs. Liu sent new personnel, and none of them had seen the managers from the Jiang family come to Fu’an Village.

They bought some and helped transport the rest to Cheng County, then switched to another group to send it to Xiangmu Village.

It can be said that Mrs. Liu and her team put in a lot of effort to ensure people didn’t find out where the Jiang family had moved.

Luckily, things won’t be so troublesome in the future, the grains the Jiang family planted in Xiangmu Village should be fully harvested by the time they return.

After dinner, Xiaomi first taught everyone how to skewer skewers, which was pretty simple; after demonstrating two skewers, she went back.

Then she took Master Yang to make the soup, which wasn’t that troublesome. A bit of oil, caramelize rock candy, stir fry the bean paste over low heat to release its fragrance, then add water, and put in various spices to simmer.

The rock candy is the handmade kind, with a cotton thread inside after it melts; it’s expensive, but luckily just a little is needed to enhance the flavor.

The bean paste is also homemade, Second Aunt prepares it every autumn, using dry broad beans soaked until soft, peeled, fermented, then mixed with chopped chilies.

Ginger, garlic, and salt are added as needed. Properly stored, it can last one or two years and tastes amazing!

While the broth simmers on this side, two pounds of sweet potato vermicelli are soaked on that side, just in cold water, it’ll be ready to cook in thirty minutes.

Then, a few wooden basins are taken outside with wood ear fungus, tofu skins, lotus root slices, and lettuce slices, all needing to be soaked in water, otherwise, they turn black and dry, which doesn’t taste good.

Fifteen minutes later, the kitchen is filled with aroma, Xiaomi couldn’t help but sniff and say, ”Smells so good!”

Such a nostalgic taste.

Thinking about it, she hadn’t eaten it for almost ten years.

Seven and a half years in this life, and two years in the last world.

”Really smells so good, Lao Yang, what are you cooking?” Wang Fu asked curiously as Master Yang walked out of the kitchen.

”Just a pot of broth, nothing in it but spices.” Master Yang shrug helplessly, feeling it smells good too, but alas, it’s just a pot of water.

”Xiaomi, are we cooking these with the broth?”

Wei Ziang grabbed a skewer of tofu skins; tofu skins are actually expensive, but once a pound is soaked, it expands to a lot, enough to skewer many bamboo sticks.

”Yeah, you’re smart, little brother.” Xiaomi praised and picked up a handful of skewers with all sorts of vegetables.

”Uncle Yang, where’s the deep strainer for cooking noodles?”

The strainer is made with fine bamboo strips, low cost, non-toxic, and very useful.

Curious, everyone followed into the kitchen.

They watched as Xiaomi directly put in a big handful of skewers into the pot, grabbed a handful of soaked vermicelli, and prepared to make a sauce.

Fortunately, Master Yang stopped her in time, following Xiaomi’s instructions, chopping ginger and garlic, instead of expensive vegetable oil, used a dollop of animal fat, adding salt, vinegar, soy sauce, a bit of sesame oil and pepper powder.

The sauce goes directly into a big basin, scooping a few ladles of the base broth, the fragrance explodes instantly.

The soaked vermicelli only needed to be boiled for five or six minutes, when ready, it was fished out and poured in, along with the cooked vegetables, sprinkled with scallions, all colors, scents, and flavors were present!

”Let me taste and see how it is?” Xiaomi took chopsticks and a small bowl, mixed the sauce, and picked a bit of vermicelli and a clump of wood ear fungus.

The others watched curiously, wanting to try but feeling too embarrassed to compete with a child, they just watched as Xiaomi cooled the vermicelli and took a bite, her eyes immediately squinting in delight.

”So delicious! The taste is great, you should try it!”

Due to limited seasoning, the flavor was still a bit lacking compared to the past life, but for Xiaomi who hadn’t had it in a decade, it was absolutely delicious!

Even though she’d had vermicelli with seasoning back home before, added more vinegar, it tasted somewhat like hot and sour noodles.

But dipping all these vegetables together, it’s a completely different feeling, don’t you agree!

Since Xiaomi declared it delicious, naturally everyone wanted to try, picking up bowls and chopsticks, and since there was plenty, a dozen people all had a small half-bowl each.

”Miss Xiaomi really has a knack, these vegetables and vermicelli, after being cooked like this, truly taste different from usual.”

Wang Fu’s eyes had already lit up.

”And these things aren’t expensive, the sweet potato vermicelli is quite filling, there are so many vegetables, a large pot like this is enough to fill three adult men, and the cost is under ten copper coins!”

Wang Fu was referring to the large pot Xiaomi just cooked.

It consisted of about half a pound of dried vermicelli and roughly a pound of vegetables.

As the shopkeeper of a small restaurant, personally involved in buying and preparing, he had already calculated the cost in his mind when Xiaomi brought that big handful of vegetables inside.

And that’s including the cost of the spices in the pot, while busy, Xiaomi mentioned how such a pot of broth can be simmered all day, just adding water occasionally, but not kept until the next day.

Though spices are expensive overall, buying a pound can last a long time!

Within just a few words, Wang Fu had settled on the most reasonable price in his mind.

”Miss Xiaomi is right, there’s business in cost-effectiveness, two taels of vermicelli with two vegetable skewers for five copper coins is cheaper than having noodles, and we can profit three copper coins over two bowls.”

As he spoke, Wang Fu’s eyes brightened.

”We can also make some coarse grain buns and such, if not enough, charge one copper coin for two coarse grain buns, add some cheap wine, these veggies pair well with alcohol too!”

The broth had a bit of chili, offering a mild spiciness that’s appetizing without discomfort.

Even those who don’t eat spicy food could generally accept it.

”By the way, Miss Xiaomi, what is this dish called?”

Xiaomi: ”Mala Tang!”
