Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 418: Chapter 261: Preparations (3)

”Also, during the exams, students have to eat, drink, and live inside the examination venue for nine days without leaving. Think about what kind of food to bring, something easy to check and that can’t hide anything for cheating.”

”Oh, and you also need to prepare charcoal, and the food must be quick and convenient, as they have to make it themselves within the examination venue...”

Hearing this was quite shocking; there are so many details to consider—it’s not just the food, but even the clothes need to be thoroughly inspected.

Not only must they bring their own food and cook it themselves, but each candidate has their own small room, equipped with a chair, bed, and a chamber pot—they even have to relieve themselves there.

No one is allowed to leave the examination venue until after the exams are completed.

Unexpectedly difficult, hearing Uncle Liu say this made Jiang Hu’s second wife more determined to go along as well.

These are all kids aged twelve or thirteen; without an adult to accompany them, they might not even know what food to prepare.

Of course, within their family, the children’s self-care skills aren’t too bad, but the concern is inevitable.

According to Uncle Liu, this year’s academy exams are expected to be around mid-August. If nothing goes wrong, they can set off at the beginning of July to avoid any delays due to unexpected incidents on the road.

With just about ten days left, it gives the second wife enough time to figure out what can be preserved for ten days without spoiling, while still being filling and easy to eat.

While the three adults were chatting, the children were sent off to bed; it was already late, and they needed to get up early for school the next morning.

Besides preparing food, more sets of clothes need to be made for washing and changing. This round trip will take nearly three months, and by the time they return, autumn would have arrived, bringing cooler temperatures.

Fortunately, they would be staying in Prefecture for a while, allowing them to make a couple of thicker outfits when needed.

This trip to the Prefecture will see the whole family mobilized, even little Snow must take leave from the embroidery workshop. She can continue her learning there once they return.

Even these days, she needs to help her mother make some fitting new clothes for her brothers, sisters, and herself.

Last year’s summer clothes are completely unwearable. Jiang Wei and Wei Ziang are wearing Liu Ze and Jiang Yu’s clothes from last year.

The clothes that became small in just a year were made of cotton and had no damage, so the two little ones didn’t mind and wore them anyway.

Even little Mi found hand-me-downs from her second sister within the house.

Villagers often remarked that the children of the Jiang family seemed older for their age and were taller than many of their peers in the village.

Even little Cao, nearing nine, is over a year older than little Mi but now stands about the same height.

It’s undeniable that the Jiang family’s good diet not only leads to healthier children but makes them grow taller and better looking.

No one could have imagined that the starved, emaciated family from before, with sunken cheeks and protruding eyes, could transform into such striking and fair individuals.

Now, each of them is spirited and fair, with handsome and beautiful faces.

Little Mi stretched lazily, telling little Cao she couldn’t go hunting with her for the next few days as Jiang Yu was taking the academy test and the whole family was preparing to accompany him. Little Cao was extremely envious.

After everyone discussed it last night, little Mi didn’t delve into the subsequent details, and today, as usual, led little Cao for hunting.

Little Cao progressed rapidly, growing much stronger, and her archery stance became increasingly standard, with a stable low center of gravity.

However, her accuracy still needed practice. A few days ago, she almost got a rabbit but the arrow just brushed over its back.

Though it drew blood, it was just a superficial cut, and the rabbit successfully escaped, leaving only a trace of blood on the arrow.

It was precisely this trace of blood that gave little Cao endless motivation, promising to catch prey herself when little Mi returned!

Sure enough, that evening, Jiang Yu and Liu Ze returned with the news that the tutor had spoken about the academy exams. They would depart on time ten days later, on July 1st, to Prefecture.

As for the candidates, students must register themselves based on their learning status. The tutor then sets the exam; those who pass are recommended by the tutor, and the County Magistrate sends escorts.

For the rest, if they wish to take the academy exams, they must find their own way.

This afternoon, the tutor has already conducted tests, and Jiang Yu and Liu Ze passed successfully. They only need to wait for their departure with the government officials.

The advantage of being escorted by officials is the assurance of safety, but all expenses on the journey must be borne by themselves.

Under such circumstances, families with less wealth are less likely to participate in the academy exams unless confident in success.

Now, the only thing left is to prepare for the departure.
