Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 421: Chapter 262: Can You Cook?

Nine days only, self-sufficiency is really not a big deal!

Besides, you can buy ice, at worst spend a bit more money, a basin in the afternoon and a basin for sleeping, add some red sugar syrup, hawthorn slices, raisins, and you can make your own ice drink!

If, if it’s really possible.

Jiang Hu smacked his lips: ”Xiaomi, there’s still some time now. Write a letter about what you just said, and let the driver take it back to Xiao Ze’s father later.”

Anyway, it’s better to ask first. If what Xiaomi says is feasible, then there’s really nothing to worry about, just wait to consolidate their cooking skills on the road.

”Father, Mother, don’t worry, it’s said that examinees bring their own food and cook for themselves, no one strictly dictates what you must bring.”

The letter written by Uncle Liu only mentioned this as someone else’s experience.

But as far as she knows, scholars all want to achieve fame and bring honor to their family, and people inherently hold scholars in high esteem.

For this reason, the broad students focus single-mindedly on studying, often overlooking other things.

Like exercising, learning basic life skills, and even become so absorbed that they forget common sense and changes in the outside world.

So for these people in exams, it’s normal to starve themselves, even when conditions allow otherwise.

Since they have rest and cooking time, it shouldn’t just be a moment, three meals a day, probably at least half an hour each?

Or finishing the day’s exam early gives time to prepare some food.

Plus, the two brothers are going to gain experience this year, no need to be too nervous, after everything, making themselves some food to relax is also good.

Thinking this way, Xiaomi quickly finished writing the letter, and coincidentally, her brother was going home, so she let the driver take it back.

The Liu family is not ordinary; the driver runs twice a day delivering several children home. He must be someone Uncle Liu trusts, so it’s safe to hand the letter to him.

During dinner, Jiang Hu and the second wife shared Xiaomi’s insights, others were okay since none had taken the county test before.

Uncle Liu’s eyes widened: ”Truly an outsider sees the wider picture! When Ze’er’s older brother took the county test, he was half-dead, took more than six months to recover!”

Liu Ze nodded: ”Big brother couldn’t cook, he only learned to make a fire right before the exam, sometimes anxious, couldn’t start a fire after half a day, had to eat dry with cold water.”

Uncle Liu: ”He took the exam in winter, although he passed, he got seriously ill afterwards and became emaciated.”

Jiang Hu and the second wife couldn’t believe such a story. ”It’s really necessary to learn cooking; after all, there’s still the provincial exam, right?”

The provincial exam seems to also be nine days, right?

Since knowing their son was going for the scholar exam, Jiang Hu and the second wife learned about this. After the provincial exam, there’s the metropolitan exam, then the palace exam, which is conducted in the imperial palace, invigilated by the emperor!

The provincial and metropolitan exams have pleasant names, known as Spring Exam and Autumn Exam.

But compared to the county test, which happens twice in three years, the provincial exam only occurs in the autumn of the years of the Rat, Horse, Rabbit, and Chicken, once every three years. The metropolitan exam takes place the spring of the subsequent year after the provincial exam.

Uncle Liu nodded seriously: ”Once you return from Fuzhou, I’ll let him stay here for a while to specially learn to cook!”

It’s impractical to learn at home since the servants don’t dare to teach. It’s most appropriate for Jiang Hu and the second wife to teach basic, practical cooking instead of the complicated and fancy home recipes!

Thus, this decision was made simply.

After all, the eldest grandson is taking the provincial exam next year, even if he doesn’t place in the palace exam, passing the provincial one to become a Licentiate means he can return to Cheng County for a position or find a post at an academy as a teacher with no issue.

Of course, none of this stops him from continuing to study and taking the Spring Exam the following year.

Jiang Hu and the second wife had no problem with this, they just decided that Jiang Yu and Liu Ze should ask their teacher tomorrow at the academy.

After all, it’s the best teacher in Cheng County, at least a Licentiate, the most impressive one, even the top scorer of the Spring Exam, which means the first place in the metropolitan exam!

Regarding these exams, they must be very familiar. Asking them could gain some useful tips.

Of course, the most important is to know if it’s feasible to bring rice, flour, grain, and oil to cook.

Both Jiang Yu and Liu Ze are students favored by their teacher, but they were advised to wait till they’re a bit older and steadier to pass the scholar exam next year.

So they don’t need to worry about being scolded for not studying diligently; after all, they’re going to gain insight this year and will officially take the exam next year.

However, before the two went to ask, Uncle Liu had already let the driver reply in advance.

No, it wasn’t Uncle Liu, it was Liu Ze’s brother who replied!
