Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 420: Chapter 262: Can You Cook?

Jiang Hu handed a piece to Xiao Mi.

Xiao Mi, not understanding, still took it and had a bite, chewing a few times before swallowing.

”It’s easy to eat, but eating it like this is so boring. Isn’t beef jerky meant to be chewed slowly?”

Eating beef jerky like this just doesn’t have the same feel, does it?

”This is for you and your brother to eat during the exam. There are very few things you can bring into the exam hall and the time is so long. Bringing some meat to eat is good for the body.”

Jiang Hu continued to pound the beef jerky: ”Originally, we thought of bringing beef jerky directly, but what if there’s not enough time to eat during the exam? So I thought to make it softer and easier to eat quickly.”

But during the exam, if you eat while writing, it’s not polite and could lose points in front of the examiners. Xiao Mi was aware of this.

Seeing a letter on the table, she picked it up casually and had a look. It detailed things easy to bring into the exam hall.

All sorts of mush...

Xiao Mi looked at her dad in confusion: ”Dad, can’t we just bring rice? We’re cooking for ourselves anyway, why bring these things?”

These things are edible, sure, but they get you hungry easily, don’t they?

Didn’t it say in the letter? Each examinee’s compartment has a small stove, and the examinee just needs to buy some charcoal to cook for themselves.

Jiang Hu paused in his actions, he...

His stepmother had just finished cooking and coincidentally overheard Xiao Mi’s words, wanting to say something when Xiao Mi continued.

”It also says here that every day the exam hall will provide a bucket of water for each examinee, and if needed, they can buy more, one penny a bucket.”

”Then bring more eggs, dry some vegetables, hidden lard is hard to check, but don’t we have rapeseed oil? Each brother can bring two pounds. If there’s any leftover, they can just take it out.”

”Oh, and we can also bring flour, a rolling pin, and a small chopping board, soak some dried vegetables, roll out a bowl of noodles, fry two eggs. You’ve got both meat and veggies, and stuff to fill the belly.”

”This also says you can buy ice in the summer, Liang Wenqian brings a bucket, carry a pound of mung beans, slowly stew it with charcoal in the morning, and when it’s hot mid-day, buy a basin of ice to chill a bowl of mung bean soup, how great is that.”

”And it seems like you can buy water, if you give a bit more money, you could potentially ask for some vegetables too.”

There are invigilators in the exam hall, of course, there are also service staff, and doctors standing guard.

Anyone confident enough to take the exam is a potential future pillar of the country, and people regard students highly.

Xiao Mi quickly skimmed through the things listed in the letter twice, not without envy.

This exam life is so carefree, except for the small space and long duration, they can cook for themselves. The exam hall even prepared the tools.

Jiang Hu and his stepmother exchanged glances, in the end, it was she who asked first: ”Can it really be like this? How come your Grandpa Liu never mentioned it?”

Jiang Hu nodded: ”Grandpa Liu also read this letter. He said when Xiao Ze’s brother took the county and provincial exams, they also prepared these things, but didn’t mention rice, flour, and tools for cooking.”

This letter was sent by Liu Ze’s parents too, and they looked into the details, Liu Ze is also taking the county exam, so they are surely attentive to these things.

Xiao Mi immediately understood what was going on and sighed softly.

”Dad, mom, why don’t you let the brothers ask their classmates tomorrow, see how many of them can cook?”

Never mind stir-frying, probably not many can even cook rice properly.

No wonder the letter said to roast various beans and rice and then grind them to powder so that just a bit of boiling water will make it edible.

For those who can’t even start a fire, eating it dry isn’t a problem, at worst it’ll choke you, just drink more water, at least they won’t starve.

Jiang Hu and his stepmother looked at each other, both seeing the daze in the other’s eyes.

If, if they could cook for themselves, seems like, seems like it’s really not hard at all, huh?

Fried eggs, scrambled eggs, egg drop soup, boiled eggs, they could eat something different every day.

Rehydrated dried vegetables can be stir-fried, made into a salad, soup, or fry it with smoked meat.

Mixing rice with some sweet potatoes, corn bits, sorghum rice, they can have something different every day.

And there’s sweet potato porridge, corn porridge, mung bean porridge, veggie leaf porridge...

Most importantly, Jiang Yu and Liu Ze know how to do all this!

Just like Xiao Mi said, bring two pounds of rapeseed oil, bring some salt, what can’t be done?
