Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 416: Chapter 261: Preparations

After dinner, the family would relax in the courtyard, sharing interesting stories from the day or discussing the future development of the household.

Of course, someone also mentioned how Wei Ziang has become much darker recently. Xiaomi knew the reason well but joined in the teasing, saying Wei Ziang wasn’t as fair and cute as before.

As for the reason, going in and out of the city under the blazing sun every day, how could he not get tanned?

Thankfully, Xiaomi managed to get him into that space, where he could absorb spiritual energy while practicing swordsmanship; otherwise, he would’ve turned completely dark.

However, Jiang Hu patted Wei Ziang’s arm, ”It seems like you’ve grown quite a bit taller in these two months. Your clothes are looking a little short today. Second Mom, do we have any fabric left at home?”

”Yes, we do. I just got some free time recently. Let me get the measuring tape, and I’ll make new clothes for all of you.”

As they say, a young lad can eat his father poor; with four big boys in the family, they’re consuming more in these hot days.

Not only that, but they’re also growing rapidly in height, especially Jiang Yu and Liu Ze, whose childish looks have greatly faded, transforming from children into spirited youths.

Full of energy and high spirits.

When they changed out of their short clothes into long robes, they exuded an extraordinary demeanor and appeared dignified.

Xiaomi, resting her chin in her hands, blinked and asked, ”Big Brother, Ze Brother, you’re both over twelve now, already thirteen by lunar age. Has anyone mentioned matchmaking for you?”

Discussing marriage at thirteen or fourteen and getting married at fifteen or sixteen was pretty common.

After all, they’re still kids, so when asked about such personal matters, they couldn’t help but blush, ”What are you talking about, Xiaomi? You’re a girl, how can you ask such things?”

Of course, this was Jiang Yu speaking. Liu Ze didn’t open his mouth, but his eyes drifted towards Xiaoxue.

Xiaoxue’s eyes were bright and curious; if not for the usual restraint of a girl, she might have wanted to ask too.

After all, both brothers in the family are excellent. Not only do they look good, but Grandpa Liu also says they are frequently praised by their teachers at school.

With such good brothers, many matchmakers are sure to remember them.

Liu Ze, with just a glance, knew what Xiaoxue was thinking; he sighed slightly in his heart but smiled on the surface, saying, ”Even if someone proposes matchmaking, it would be discussed with our elders. They wouldn’t come to us directly.”

Xiaoxue instinctively nodded, ”That’s true. Back in Fu’an Village, it was Grandma the Village Chief who spoke to Mom.”

They still remember how the village chief’s wife insisted on matchmaking for Jiang Yu, almost forcing the girl into their home.

Jiang Yu rolled his eyes, ”Xiaoxue, can we not talk about this anymore?”

Didn’t you see Grandpa Liu and Liu Ze are both laughing?

Then Jiang Yu changed the subject with a playful smile towards Liu Ze, ”Aze, what about you? Anyone come to propose matchmaking for you? With your family background, I bet there’s no end to people at your door.”

Before Liu Ze could speak, Uncle Liu stroked his beard and chuckled, ”No rush, no rush. Ze’er is still young, give it another couple of years.”

Liu Ze nodded in agreement, ”That’s right, studying is more important now. The exams are coming up this year, Yu Brother, how is your preparation going?”

This time it’s the provincial exam, if passed, one becomes a Scholar, even family’s farmland taxes can be reduced!

Jiang Yu immediately turned serious, ”No matter what, I’ll do my best.”

Uncle Liu consoled, ”Don’t rush, you’re still young. Consider this time as training your courage and gaining experience.”

After all, passing the Scholar exam is not as simple as the Child Student exam, it’s stricter and more exhausting.

The Scholar exam is a severe test for both body and mind. It’s a three-day continuous test with no leaving the exam venue for food or rest.

With the biannual provincial exam, if not passed this year, there’s another chance at the end of next year. By then, you’ll be almost fourteen, another few years of study and you’d be ready for the national exam.

The national exam is even tougher, with three rounds, each taking three days, and no leaving the venue for nine days. You’ll need to prepare your own food and drink. If passed, you’ll become an Examinee.

Examinees may not enter the court directly, but can be appointed to positions like teacher, county assistant, or registrar, stepping into officialdom.

However, to get to this point requires tremendous effort, and it’s not just diligence and seriousness that gets you there.

Jiang Hu, not as well-versed as Uncle Liu, nodded along anyway, ”Regardless of how well you do, keep a normal heart. You’re still young, taking the exam a few more times doesn’t matter.”
