Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 440: Chapter 272: All Set

Just because of a word from Wei Ziang, river shrimp, scarcely asked about at the market today, became extremely popular.

Before they’d even walked past a few stalls, the news had spread throughout the West Market. In a few days, perhaps everyone in the whole city will know, and then everyone will start eating river shrimp.

But that’s all in the future. Right now, they are on a big shopping spree led by Xiaomi!

Why Xiaomi? Of course, because whatever Xiaomi points to, she buys—one lettuce, three eggplants, five peppers...

Anything Xiaomi says she wants, they buy as many as she wants!

Neither less nor more.

Xiaomi buys decisively, going around once, buying everything she wants, weighing two pounds of pork belly, and then getting fish to take home.

Still, it took over half an hour. By the time they got home, the Second Aunt had already started cooking porridge and was preparing to make pancakes.

So, the Second Aunt prepared breakfast, and Xiaomi got everyone else to help process the vegetables.

Peeled what needed peeling, washed what needed washing, sliced what needed slicing. Especially wood ear mushrooms and tofu sheets had to be soaked in warm water early.

The river shrimp were put into a wooden bucket with a bit of salt to soak, allowing the shrimp to expel any waste from their bellies.

Xiaomi secretly grabbed a handful and put it in her space, thinking she would buy two more pounds on their way back, legitimately taking them to Xiangmu Village.

Whether the ones taken back eventually were from the same batch bought here didn’t matter; what mattered was taking them home and raising them in Xiangmu Village.

”What is this, it’s so strange-looking.” In Xiaoxue’s eyes, they looked like little bugs. As for being scared? Not really.

After all, she used to catch bugs to feed chickens every day; what kind of bugs hasn’t she seen in the fields? There’s nothing to fear about these.

”River shrimp, of course! It’s edible, and both Brother and Uncle Wang said eating it is good for your health.”

Xiaomi grabbed a handful and held them up: ”See, they’re so small.”

There’s no difference from the common types of prawns, just really small, about two to three centimeters, with very little meat, mostly shell when eaten.

No wonder they’re so cheap here. People want to eat meat, the bigger the mouthfuls, the more satisfying it is.

At least, that’s how it is for ordinary folks.

And all the nutrients and other benefits of river shrimp, people don’t know and have no way of knowing.

Pure natural and pollution-free river shrimp, just thinking about it makes your mouth water, right?

In past lives, it cost dozens of yuan per pound, even more expensive than pork or beef!

”Indeed, they’re so small. How do you eat these?”

As long as it’s edible, it’s okay. It’s not like she hasn’t eaten bugs as a child.

Xiaomi shook her head: ”I don’t know, Uncle Yang should know.”

Xiaomi remembered she still had lots of shrimps and crabs in her space—Antarctic red shrimp, green shrimp, lobsters, mantis shrimp, tiger prawns, and big lobsters, along with hairy crabs, king crabs, and bread crabs.

In addition to these, there are some other river and sea foods, all frozen. Unfortunately, they currently live inland, and these things can’t be taken out to eat.

When grown up, there might be a chance to visit the seaside and see what the ocean in this world is like.

”Xiaomi, Xiaomi? Uncle Wang is calling you.”

While daydreaming, Xiaomi was nudged by Xiaoxue, realizing she had zoned out and forgotten her business.

”Xiaomi, how should we handle these vegetables?” Perhaps also curious about the things Xiaomi mentioned, Wang Fu had picked up a knife, ready to help.

”Oh, I’m coming.” Xiaomi immediately pulled her second sister over: ”Uncle Wang, let’s freeze this tofu first, so it’s easier to prepare later.”

Frozen tofu has lots of pores and good elasticity, better suited for spicy hotpot dishes.

”Alright.” Wang Fu handed it over to Xiao Er, asking him to freeze it.

Everyone’s eaten frozen tofu before. Even though it’s tofu, it becomes different in texture once frozen.

Dealing with these vegetables was simple enough, but the tricky part was skewering them all so that each bamboo stick was fairly uniform.

The pork belly was sliced and marinated with salt, wine, and a bit of chili powder. There were other spices, but using too many would raise costs, and prices couldn’t be too low.

Eggplants, lettuce, and lotus root were cut into thick slices. Leafy vegetables were skewered four or five sticks per bamboo, cheaper vegetables more per stick, pricier ones less, just like the skewers eaten in the previous life.

”Xiaomi, what’s the purpose of making it like this?” asked the Second Aunt, bringing out breakfast, ”Why don’t we eat first and work afterward?”

”To sell, of course. After eating, Uncle Yang will make the soup base, and we’ll start skewering these onto bamboo sticks.”
