Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 397: Chapter 254: East, South, West, North (Part 3)

That’s how it was said, but Xiaocao couldn’t wait and ate several berries.

The family was poor, and usually, there were no snacks. Even most of the wild fruits from the mountains were sold, only the less attractive ones were eaten by themselves.

Xiaomi looked around for a week: ”Xiaocao, why didn’t you go help plant the rice seedlings today?”

She saw Xiaocao’s parents, her sister, and brother. The brother just learned to walk and was placed in a large wooden tub in the paddy field. The adults would push the tub as they walked.

As for Xiaocao’s sister, she was helping pull out the rice seedlings and then plant them.

It wasn’t just Xiaocao’s family; almost all the other children were the same. It seemed like aside from a few of them, no one was playing around.

Xiaocao giggled a few times: ”Isn’t it all thanks to you, Xiaomi?”

”Huh? What’s it got to do with me?”

Xiaocao explained: ”You know, Xiaomi, when I took you to the mountains to find fragrant dragon grass, who knew it would sell for over a hundred copper coins! That never happened before!”

Although it was for all the fragrant dragon grass that sold for over a hundred copper coins, for the Zhang family, this was already a significant income!

Xiaomi still didn’t understand.

”Parents were happy, knowing that the wild berries were just ripe. Uncle Jiang said you were interested in these delicacies, so they specifically asked me to find you to play with. Otherwise, I’d be working now.”

So she could rest today, really all thanks to Xiaomi.

”I see.” Xiaomi understood, then remembered something: ”Xiaocao, you said we could fill several baskets, is that true?”

Pointing at the berries in front of her, these wild small berries were not easy to fill even one basket, let alone several.

”Of course!” Xiaocao lifted her chin: ”Once we pick this, I’ll take you there.”

”You two hurry up and pick. Even if there are a lot, picking a basket of berries isn’t easy.”

Wei Ziang couldn’t help but urge them; these small berries were so tiny that even if given a large pile to count one by one, it would take a considerable amount of time to fill a basket.

”Oh, got it.” Xiaomi playfully stuck her tongue out at Xiaocao and started picking the berries, giggling.

Just like Wei Ziang said, picking a basket wasn’t simple. Although the area was about ten square meters, their bamboo basket barely had a layer at the bottom.

”They’re gone so soon, Xiaocao. Where are the other places you mentioned with lots of berries?”

”Just on the opposite slope. It’s all barren land over there, lots of thorny vines.”

As soon as they were about to leave, Xiaohei came running over.

”Xiaohei, why did you bring your little ones over again?”

Not just Xiaohei, but also three little pups, all pitch black, just like their mother!

”The little puppies are so cute.” Xiaocao couldn’t help picking up a little Xiaohei, rubbing and snuggling with it, looking very pleased.

Ever since that time on the mountain with them, Xiaohei had completely liberated itself. When Xiaomi went out, it followed; when Xiaomi didn’t, it went out to play by itself!

Such a big dog could bite a wild rabbit’s neck in one go. It spread in the village that this pure black wolfdog belonged to the Jiang family.

Luckily, Xiaohei ran around the village but never bit people, nor did it approach places with children. Whether it was welcome in the village or not, at least for now, no one complained about it.

Lately, it got even more excessive, not only running around by itself but also taking the three pups along. It was as if it was marking its territory in the village.

Earlier, when Xiaomi left, she forgot to call Xiaohei. It came on its own.

Two-month-old puppies were growing sturdy, weighing five to six kilograms, with shoulder heights nearly a foot and a half.

Every day they ate and drank well; Xiaomi also fed them Spiritual Spring water regularly and occasionally gave them soft-boiled chicken breast. They really changed day by day.

Moreover, the three little ones were particularly smart and had begun learning to hunt with their mother. Although they were still clumsy, they’d tumble head over heels with a single leap, which looked quite amusing.

Still, the little ones were full of energy and could follow them up the mountain and even walk back by themselves.

”Xiaomi, what are the names of these three little puppies?” Xiaocao loved them so much, rubbing this one and then that one.

If her family weren’t poor and couldn’t afford an extra dog’s food, she would have wanted to keep one.

This question stumped Xiaomi, who paused for a long time: ”Haven’t named them yet. I’ll ask tonight when I get back.”

The name ”Xiaohei” itself was laughed at for a long time back then.

But as for other grand names, Xiaomi couldn’t think of any.

Wei Ziang watched Xiaohei run ahead and calmly said.

”Just call them East, South, West, North. Didn’t Uncle say they’re meant to guard the pigs and chickens? It matches the name Xiaohei.”

Xiaomi blinked: ”But there are only three of them?”

”Then just pick three of the four directions.”

Xiaomi fondled her chin in thought; that seemed doable.
