Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 354: Chapter 241: Inquiries (Part 2)

Though these are resources from another world, this is indeed real beef.

She just didn’t want others to think she was a prodigal spender, so she didn’t take out much of the beef cubes.

Even though this beef with many spices was not particularly tasty to her anymore.

A small beef cube was chewed by everyone for nearly two full minutes before they were willing to swallow it.

By this time, they had already reached the foot of the mountain.

Children’s emotions are simple, and because Xiaomi ’generously’ shared her food, the other kids immediately treated her as one of their own.

”Can I also call you Xiaomi? Our names are quite similar, I’m called Xiaocao.”

The first to approach Xiaomi was a very frail little girl, about as tall as Xiaomi but very dark and thin, with hair that was dry and yellow due to long-term malnutrition.

Xiaomi also noticed that she had many calluses on her hands, her skin was very dry, with some areas red and purple, some cracked open, and the surface of the wounds slightly blackened.

It’s not difficult to guess that this was chilblains formed from prolonged winter contact with cold water without hand cream, causing cracked skin.

After the chilblains heal, red and purple marks are left, which take a long time to fade away.

It’s not hard to see that Xiaocao’s family conditions aren’t good, or rather, it’s not just her; the others present are about the same.

Children in the countryside have endless chores every day; after all, not every family is like Xiaomi and Xiaoxue’s.

Even people from Fu’an Village benefit because of Xiaomi’s Spiritual Spring water.

The same amount of labor is, due to the Spiritual Energy contained in the grain, more comfortable and pleasant externally and internally than others.

For example, the skin; the girls who previously visited Xiaoxue at home to learn embroidery, although they do a lot of farm work every day, their condition is much better than Xiaocao’s.

Xiaomi only glanced and then withdrew her gaze: ”Xiaocao and Xiaomi, your names really are similar. You all seem to dig bamboo shoots every day, isn’t it?”

”Mmm, during this time, bamboo shoots are the most tender and freshest, and they also fetch a good price. A pound of bamboo shoots can sell for two copper coins. If we dig more, with the extra money, my mom promised to buy me a new hair ribbon.”

Xiaocao happily pointed to her head; her hair ribbon was broken, patched together with several strands.

”Then let’s walk faster and dig more. In about half a month’s time, the bamboo shoots will not be as tender.”

Immediately, they quickened their pace. Along the way, the other kids also introduced themselves.

Besides Zhang An, there were three other boys, named Li Mu, Zhang Yuan, and Wang Shi.

Xiaocao also had the surname Zhang, and besides Zhang Xiaocao, there was also Li Lihua and Liu Xiaoxiao among the girls.

Among them, Li Mu, Wang Shi, Liu Xiaoxiao, and Li Lihua were house slaves of the landowners’ family, whereas the others were villagers of Xiangmu Village and possessed good status.

So, compared to Zhang Yuan, Liu An, and Xiaocao, these four were a bit more timid and appeared more subdued.

At least that’s what Xiaomi observed along this trip; these four spoke relatively less.

The liveliest was probably Xiaocao, who, after getting to know Xiaomi, introduced the rest of them.

Moreover, once she found out that Xiaomi was only seven, a year younger than her, Xiaocao kept holding Xiaomi’s hand, telling her to walk carefully.

Even though Xiaomi looked healthier than her.

Although it was their first meeting, they got along quite well, at least there wasn’t the exclusion that Xiaomi had worried about before.

Originally, she thought the place they were going today was the previous spot for digging big bamboo shoots, but it turned out not to be.

A few of them climbed the hillside, passing the usual bamboo shoot digging site, and continued on forward.

They didn’t even glance at the occasional bamboo shoots by the roadside.

”Where are we going?” Xiaomi asked curiously, as she hadn’t been this deep inside before.

”Over this small hill, there’s a bamboo sea, with far more bamboo shoots. Once the adults finish planting corn, everyone will come and dig bamboo shoots.”

Zhang An led the way in front, Xiaocao was pulling Xiaomi, and the others followed behind.

”A bamboo sea? How much bamboo is that?”

”It’s a lot. I’ve even gotten lost in the bamboo sea before..”

Xiaocao laughed proudly.

Although, Xiaomi didn’t understand what was so pride-worthy about getting lost, perhaps it just proved that the bamboo sea was indeed vast?
