Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 374: Chapter 248: Changes

Jiang Hu has also bought quite a bit of wasteland over the past few years, so he has some experience, but the village chief’s advice was also his own intention.

He put away the certificate written by the village chief, planning to go to the city tomorrow morning to handle the deed, and then the land would be theirs to do with as they please.

Jiang Hu is now quite keen on buying wasteland because it’s cheap!

In theory, wasteland is desolate, overgrown with weeds, leaving countless weed seeds and roots behind. In the first few years of cultivating it, one almost always has to fight against the weeds in the field.

Besides this, the nutrients in wasteland are very poor, and crop yields in the first few years are particularly low.

This is common knowledge among all farmers.

So if anyone wants to buy land, as long as they have enough money, their first choice is fertile land; at least the grain yield is high, which can feed the family, and what’s left can be sold.

If it’s wasteland, even if there’s no grain tax for the first three years, the output from this wasteland would be minimal, wasting the family’s labor for nothing.

In the eyes of most people, someone like Jiang Hu buying ten acres of wasteland at once is just foolish.

Even if Jiang Hu is planning to build a pigsty, whose pigsty could possibly be as big as ten acres? Even if he had two sows, that much space wouldn’t be necessary!

Fine, even if he is building a pigsty, both the village chief and Zhang Yuan still think that Jiang Hu buying wasteland is a sign of a problem with his mind.

Especially since there are also rumors that Jiang Hu will hire some long-term workers in the future, these years, the wasteland is likely to be more of a loss than a gain.

However, no matter what, Jiang Hu is not a native of Xiangmu Village, so even if the village chief and Zhang Yuan feel it’s not a good idea, they can’t say much about it.

Jiang Hu then told the village chief about wanting to hire people to build the pigsty and even took out the pigsty design plans.

This design plan was drawn by Uncle Liu based on Xiao Mi’s verbal description.

It’s the style of a pigsty shed Xiao Mi saw in her past life, with pigsties on both sides and a walkway in the middle so that walking through the middle allows feeding the pigs on both sides.

The pigsty is four and a half feet high, without walls, only beams and a roof.

The main reason for this design is ventilation.

When Xiao Mi asked her mother, she was surprised to find that her mother’s ambitions were not small.

Originally, she thought her mother would be satisfied with a few sows, but she didn’t expect her mother said only a few sows, and forgot to mention that all the piglets they gave birth to would also be raised and not sold!

This was indeed planning for self-sufficiency. As long as a few sows were raised, and since one sow can have two litters a year, with ten piglets per litter, that would be twenty piglets.

If they raised three sows, then...

Xiao Mi could even foresee the day when their family would have fifty or sixty pigs.

After learning this news, Xiao Mi promptly ’came up with’ the design of this pigsty.

No matter what is being raised, the most important thing is ventilation and keeping the air flowing; this alone can prevent most diseases.

Uncle Liu, although shocked by the second mother’s sudden ’ambition’, was also delighted with her high spirit and had no intention to dissuade her.

Not only that, Uncle Liu also added his own ideas to Xiao Mi’s plan.

That is to make the rafters sturdier with good wood, and then add an upper layer to the pigsty as a storage area specifically for pig fodder and other miscellaneous items.

After all, if you’re raising that many pigs, you must always have enough food prepared, which inevitably requires space for storage.

Even though Jiang’s courtyard is big enough to hold everything, moving things back and forth is tiring.

In the future, they could train one of Little Black’s offspring and have it guard the pigsty and the pig fodder; there’d be no need to worry at all.

After all, with Little Black as a precedent, Little Black’s offspring surely won’t fall short; they will definitely be as clever and capable as their mother!

”Village chief, look, this is the pigsty I am planning to build. I’ve already found some craftsmen who specialize in building houses and will need about ten more people for miscellaneous work.”

Jiang Hu had reviewed the blueprints countless times and was quite calm: ”Since I need to hire people anyway, I thought I’d start by asking the villagers.”

Though he had already mentioned it to Zhang Yuan, it’s necessary to bring it up with the village chief.

However, at the moment, the village chief’s attention was apparently not on Jiang Hu’s words; his eyes widened when he saw the blueprints Jiang Hu unfurled.

”This, is this a pigsty?” He even reached out to count: ”One, two, three... seven, eight, nine, nine on one side, eighteen pigsties total?”
