Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 371: Chapter 247: Building Good Relations

Besides the little girl Xiaocao and her parents, there was an older child and a younger one held in Xiaocao’s dad’s arms.

These were Xiaocao’s brother and her little brother. The little brother was only one year old and could barely walk, so whenever they went out, he was carried by his parents, even while working.

Because there was only one daughter in the family, Xiaocao’s life was considered good in the village. This was why she appeared more lively and cheerful compared to most people.

The two little sisters who had just finished playing were happily chatting while leading the way, while the others followed behind, greeting each other and getting acquainted.

Xiaocao’s parents looked like typical farmers, their backs bent from years of labor; the wind and rain had left ravines on their faces and hands.

In contrast, Jiang Hu and his wife, despite also farming, were entirely different.

The husband’s skin was wheat-colored, tall and robust, full of spirit, appearing more like a young guy rather than a father of four.

His wife was fair and slender, with a serene demeanor, looking as if she could be the mistress of a wealthy family, not someone who worked in agriculture every day.

This couple was a few years older than Xiaocao’s parents, yet looked noticeably younger.

Even when meeting for the first time, Xiaocao’s parents spoke with some caution, fearing they might offend Jiang Hu’s wife.

Fortunately, although Jiang Hu’s wife wasn’t fond of crowds, she wasn’t the cold sort either; both were quite sincere, and before long, the adults became familiar with each other.

Jiang Hu’s wife asked Xiaocao’s mother about raising pigs, even verbally agreeing that when the next litter was born, she’d leave all the sows to her.

”Sister-in-law, are you going to raise that many pigs?”

Xiaocao’s mother was quite surprised, as there could easily be seven or eight piglets. Among them, having three or four sows was quite normal, but was she really going to raise that many?

Jiang Hu’s wife smiled, ”Yes, planning to raise more. Oh, Spring Flower, a few days from now we are going to build a new pig shed and might need some workers. Do you know anyone in the village who’d want to work? We’ll pay them.”

Spring Flower, Xiaocao’s mother, her father was named Zhang Yuan.

Spring Flower’s first thought was, ”Work, huh? How about my Zhang Yuan? He used to help people build houses, his craftsmanship is excellent.”

These days, finding work wasn’t easy; although you could find hauling jobs in the city, going there cost money, and there’s no guarantee work would be available.

Moreover, those city labor jobs had dedicated foremen who could secure work, only occasionally hiring outsiders when they didn’t have enough workers.

So unless contracted, it was generally difficult for outsiders to find work by themselves.

Thus, upon hearing Jiang Hu’s wife mention building a pig barn, Spring Flower immediately forgot about her plan to raise many pigs - securing work for her husband was more important!

Even if to help a fellow villager out and earning a bit less, he could still make twenty copper coins a day!

Building a pig barn required digging a manure pit, employing three to four people, and could take six to seven days, bringing in over a hundred copper coins!

However, Jiang Hu’s wife didn’t immediately agree; instead, she turned to Jiang Hu.

”Brother Hu?”

The four were not far apart, just a step or two away, so the two men’s conversation was naturally overheard by the women.

Seeing his wife ask him, Jiang Hu laughed heartily.

”Brother Zhang’s a great worker; once we finalize the date, we’ll let you know. Brother Zhang can then introduce some more good workers to us.”

Uncle Liu specialized in this line of work and had plenty of workers. With his word, many could come to work the next day.

Uncle Liu was kind-hearted and offered to find workers for them.

Yet Jiang Hu politely declined; building a pig barn involved uncomplicated labor, and given sufficient time, he could complete it on his own.

However, this was a great opportunity to build rapport with the villagers of Xiangmu Village.

Though they had been in the village for quite some time, because they lived at the village entrance in a large house, only the village chief knew them.

That was back on the first day they arrived, when Qixi specially took Jiang Hu around to introduce him as a future resident of Xiangmu Village.

After that, their family had little interaction with other villagers.

Hiring workers naturally involved communication, which helped them become familiar with the villagers.
