Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 382: Chapter 250: Annoying (3)

Xiaomi shook her head, ”I’m not a three-year-old child, tattling about everything. Zhang An is at most annoying, just ignore him.”

This matter was just mentioned to Wei Ziang a couple of times.

Because of the swordsmanship, they communicated more often. Every evening when Wei Ziang returned, as long as Xiaomi hadn’t overslept her nap, they would take a walk around the courtyard.

At this time, they would usually use the excuse of taking a walk or looking for pigweed to share some swordsmanship experiences.

Zhang An’s matter was inadvertently brought up during this time.

Wei Ziang smiled slightly, didn’t say much, just held Xiaomi’s hand and led her home.

”I haven’t been going to school the past few days, haven’t you been talking about wanting to go up the mountain? I can go with you.”

”Really? That’s great, Little Grass also invited me, saying she’ll take me up the mountain this afternoon to find a kind of wild herb. She said it’s fragrant and can be brewed into a drink, cooling and relieving summer heat.”

Xiaomi was so happy she almost jumped up.

If her brother was with them, they could venture a little further.

After all, Little Grass is a girl, and if she took Little Grass alone, she’d worry about potential dangers they might face.

If her brother went too, the two of them could look after Little Grass together, and they could naturally have more fun!

”No problem, we’ll tell Auntie to make a bit more for lunch. We’ll take some rice balls and water, come back a bit late in the afternoon, and if we get hungry, we’ll have something to eat.”

Wei Ziang arranged everything neatly, and Xiaomi just nodded in agreement.

After returning home, when the second mother hadn’t come back yet and knowing Xiaomi didn’t sleep well last night and was feeling sleepy, she let her catch up on sleep while she went to the kitchen to prepare today’s lunch.

Usually, at noon, Uncles and Uncle Qixu would eat with other workers over there, and after eating, they would come back to rest a bit.

But he had already gone to the pig pen earlier to say hi to Uncle, so he knew he was back.

Today, only he returned home. Yu Ge, Ze Ge, and Xiao Wei were still at school; Uncle would definitely come back for lunch and ask what’s going on, so he also had to prepare Uncle’s lunch.

With so many people at home, almost all would cook, even Jiang Wei could whip up a couple of simple dishes, yet Wei Ziang was a bit more skilled than Jiang Wei.

With plenty of time, Wei Ziang soaked the sorghum rice, intending to cook it later with the polished rice.

Although the family had no shortage of polished rice, often, they preferred to mix in some coarse grains.

There were some dried wood ears soaking on the stove and a piece of cured meat prepared. The cured meat needed to be scalded, washed, and cooked before it could be stir-fried, and just as the wood ear was not ready, he started with the cured meat.

The cured meat was hung in a cool, ventilated area, with a piece cut each time for eating, not handled in advance, or else in two or three days it would completely spoil.

To avoid a fire, scalding cured meat must be done outdoors.

The piece of cured meat was just palm-sized, with the skin facing up on the ground, some firewood was brought over and lit on top of the meat skin, and then twigs were added on top.

These operations were very familiar to Wei Ziang.

Such a piece of cured meat could last for two meals, and if his guess was right, it was probably prepared for the evening.

Usually, they were at school for lunch, and Auntie kept it simple at noon, reserving the meat for the evening when everyone came home.

However, with Uncle coming home for lunch today and needing to work in the afternoon, he decided to make some meat dishes on his own initiative.

Of course, mainly because neither Uncle nor Auntie would mind the extra food, which is why he was so bold.

The meat skin began sizzling, giving off an enticing aroma, so tempting that one could almost grab it and take a bite.

Ensuring all parts of the skin were properly scalded, Wei Ziang used tongs to take the cured meat and set it aside, extinguished the fire, then took the cured meat back to the kitchen.

He pulled out some ash from the stove and placed the cured meat on it, then took a knife.

By now the cured meat was no longer as hot, and he could directly use the small knife to scrape off the burnt layer on the meat skin, revealing a fragrant and soft brown-yellow skin underneath.

Wood ash can absorb grease, and this cured meat, after being marinated, was also smoked, so a layer of smoke dust covered it.

If simply washed, it would be troublesome, but with wood ash, by using a small knife to scrape off the dirty parts, only wood ash remained during the final wash, making it particularly easy to clean.

Once the cured meat was tidied up, it appeared as a translucent brown color, looking especially good, but the preparation wasn’t done. It still needed to be cooked again to become fully edible and fragrant!
