Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 338: Chapter 236: Boredom

Uncle Liu returned not long after, then helped to dig bamboo shoots and also heard about the incident with the children earlier.

Uncle Liu didn’t say much, only mentioning that there was no shortage of food at home, and there was no need to compete with others. They could check it out after the others left.

About an hour later, just as Xiaomi was starting to feel a bit tired of digging bamboo shoots, Qixi came over.

Qixi and Aunt Yang’s main task was still to look after Uncle Liu. With him not returning home for half a day and coming up the mountain, they were understandably a bit worried.

Just in time, Xiaomi handed the bamboo shoots on the ground to Qixi, and then cheerfully ran off to dig wild onions.

The three of them were busy all afternoon, clearing much of their own land, pulling out every edible wild onion they could find except for some yet to mature sprouts.

Besides wild onions, there were tender dandelions, bitter lettuce, plantain, and various other wild vegetables.

Qixi was the most tired, making three trips to carry the bamboo shoots back, and also made two trips for the wild vegetables.

What followed was work for everyone together.

There were too many wild onions to finish eating in one go, so they cut off the cleaned wild onion bulbs separately.

The wild onion bulb is a round lump with about an inch of scallion white, washed clean and drained, then salted to marinate.

After a day of marinating, they drained the water, mixed the wild onion bulbs with chili powder and a small amount of spices, and continued marinating.

In about ten days, the wild onion bulbs will be ready and taste quite good. They make a savory side dish that goes well with meals.

As for the remaining wild vegetables, naturally, they sorted out what was edible and ate them; those that weren’t could feed the chickens and rabbits.

In the evening, aside from a large pot of snake soup on the table, everything else was various kinds of wild vegetables.

Dandelions and bitter lettuce were blanched and served cold, the wild onions and bamboo shoots were stir-fried simply; the quantities were still not much, but the servings were large.

There were too many wild vegetables and bamboo shoots to handle all at once in the evening, so they had to leave some for the next day.

Early the next morning, Xiaomi grabbed the task of herding the ducks, driving them and the geese to a nearby village pond.

When she was unconscious before, it was Xiaoxue doing this. Now that Xiaomi was awake and had again been ’deprived’ of the right to go up the mountain alone, she could only snatch the chores that allowed her to leave the house.

The pond was not privately owned, and anyone could raise ducks and geese there. Indeed, their family was not the only one in the village with ducks and geese.

The water in the pond was fresh but did not flow to other places.

The pond beside them, however, flowed throughout the village, used almost entirely for watering and laundry, besides drinking water.

They learned this on the second day after moving here.

So the Jiang family usually took care of this water source.

Upon getting back, she saw her second sister preparing to head out with a bundle of dirty clothes, and Xiaomi quickly followed.

The clothes were only theirs; everyone else washed their own clothes, and even Liu Ze was no exception.

The four boys, every afternoon upon returning home, the first thing they did was wash the clothes they had changed out of the day before.

In the Jiang family, probably only Uncle Liu didn’t have to do laundry.

In Xiangmu Village, it seemed their household might be the only one where everyone washed their clothes every day.

Especially every afternoon, you would inevitably see the four boys crouched in a row by the pond, efficiently doing their laundry.

Xiaomi secretly asked about it; actually, when Liu Ze was at his own home, he never did such chores, but upon arriving at their house, he adapted to the local customs.

Of course, he could have Qixi or Aunt Yang do it, as that was their original intention, but Liu Ze insisted on doing it himself!

But Xiaomi only asked casually and didn’t pay much attention.

As for what Liu Ze wanted to do, she couldn’t mind that.

After washing the clothes, the sun came out. The weather lately was quite hot when it’s hot, but it got quite cold when it cooled.

Besides doing laundry, there was feeding the chickens and pigs. Xiaomi wanted to help, but Xiaoxue assigned her to continue peeling bamboo shoot husks.

Luckily Little Black kept her company, so she wasn’t too bored.

Little Black’s belly was quite big already; it rarely went out lately, mostly just taking walks in the yard.

It probably knew it was due to give birth in a few days, so it was being cautious.

Little Black’s dog house was revamped too; the original straw mat was wrapped with old clothes, sewn by the second aunt.
