Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 334: Chapter 234: Digging Bamboo Shoots (3)

Even when she was constantly drowsy before, she still remembered to add some Spiritual Spring water to the household water tank.

In this way, at least it ensures that while the family is busy, their nutrition keeps up too.

When Xiaomi finished sorting out the wild onions, Xiaoxue also processed the snake meat, using a bit of salt to marinate it. Then she put it in a basin, covered it, and stored it in the cupboard to make broth in the evening.

Then, Xiaoxue actually took off with a small basket filled with unpeeled bamboo shoots!

Xiaomi was stunned: ”Second sister, when did you dig up these bamboo shoots?”

”This morning.” Xiaoxue wasn’t surprised at all, skillfully peeling the bamboo shoots.

”Isn’t there a patch of mottled bamboo forest on the mountain at the back? When I was digging wild onions in the morning, I took a look. There were lots of bamboo shoots, so I dug up a bit to bring back.”

”By the way, Xiaomi, do you want to come with me this afternoon? Although it seems like there are plenty of wild onions and bamboo shoots, once processed, there isn’t much.”

That’s true, bamboo shoots as long as chopsticks, after peeling, the edible part inside is only a bit longer than a finger.

And that pile of wild onions, once fried, amounts to just one plate.

Xiaomi was amazed at her second sister’s workload, feeding chickens, pigs, ducks, geese, as well as rabbits, peacocks, and bamboo rats, and yet she managed to dig up wild onions and bamboo shoots!

However, upon hearing her second sister’s invitation, she nodded repeatedly: ”I want to go, I’ll go with you this afternoon.”

At least it’s a chance to walk on the mountain, right?

Then the two sisters got busy, peeling a pile of bamboo shoots shells, ending up with just a small basin of bamboo shoots.

Add some salt and boil them once to remove the bitterness from the bamboo shoots, then they can be stir-fried directly.

Picked a little cabbage as well, the little cabbages were only palm-sized, tender, but no problem for cooking a pot of egg soup.

Bacon stir-fried with wild onions, simply stir-fried bamboo shoots, and a soup of eggs and cabbage leaves, though the quantity was small, the portions were not!

Even Uncle Liu had no complaints, savoring the meal with relish.

On the way straight home, Xiaomi even caught a big snake, which gave Auntie a fright. After making sure Xiaomi wasn’t bitten, she still warned her to stay away from snakes in the future.

Grabbing eels is one thing; at least eels aren’t poisonous. Snakes are much scarier than eels. Most of the snake meat they used to eat was caught by Xiao Mi and Xiao Hei, while they themselves rarely caught any.

But Xiaomi clearly didn’t mind, after all, catching snakes wasn’t a first for her.

But seeing her parents so anxious, she agreed for now, promising that when she sees a snake again, she’ll run as far away as possible.

As for whether she’ll actually do it in the future, well, that’s a story for another time.

It got even hotter at noon, so after a meal, she took a nap, and around midday, the adults went to the fields to work.

Xiaomi took a nap too, feeling much more refreshed. The saying ”spring fatigue, autumn lethargy, winter sleep, summer drowsiness” is indeed true.

If there isn’t something to do, you quickly get bored, and boredom leads to sleepiness.

However, a nap at noon definitely boosts energy for afternoon work.

”Second sister, wait for me, where is the bamboo forest you mentioned?” Xiaomi quickly caught up with her second sister.

She had actually been up the mountain a few times, but she always took the little path next to the creek, leading all the way to the top.

But now, her second sister was heading in a different direction, through the middle of the terraces.

Moreover, they passed by barren land, or rather, uncultivated open spaces.

”It’s just up there. It’s still hot now, so let’s dig bamboo shoots first. Once it cools down a bit, we’ll come down to dig the wild onions.”

Pointing to the ground by the roadside, ”Look, there’re plenty of wild onions, sprouting up lately.”

Xiaomi looked in the direction her second sister pointed.

”Wow, there really are a lot.”

The ground was covered with them, not only in open spaces but also in fields planted with sorghum and wheat.

”That’s right, but only these few open spaces are ours. We can’t go into other people’s fields.”

Xiaomi nodded repeatedly, indicating that she understood.

These wild vegetables are still vegetables; not only can they be eaten, but they can also be sold for money, of course, we can’t dig them from someone else’s fields.

”Let’s go, hurry up, look, your face is all red from the sun.” With that, Xiaoxue pulled Xiaomi to continue up the mountain.

Xiaomi has very delicate skin, like you could pinch water out of it.

Though she used to run around everywhere and didn’t notice it, after lying at home for half a month, she became so fair and tender.

She hadn’t been out long but was already turning red from the sun.

Luckily, once they entered the forest, the sunlight was blocked by leaves, and the temperature dropped quite a bit, even feeling a bit cold for a moment.

”Look, there are lots of bamboo here. Let’s dig up more, tomorrow we can stew smoked ribs, and if we can’t finish, we can dry them for later.”

”Okay!”

Each sister carried a small basket and a little hoe, jumping right into work.

Hesitating for even a second would be disrespecting the food!
