Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 336: Chapter 235: Zhang An (2)

Xiaomi glanced back a few times, feeling that the kid leading the way looked familiar, but the distance was a bit too far to see clearly.

Uncle Liu saw the pile of bamboo shoots and exclaimed, ”Wow, there are still so many left on the mountain.”

Xiaomi snapped out of it and stopped looking at the children down the hill: ”Right, there are so many bamboo shoots here, really easy to dig up.”

”It just rained a couple of days ago, these bamboo shoots must be good, there might even be mushrooms. You guys stay here while Grandpa Liu goes to take a look.”

As he spoke, Uncle Liu indeed walked further in.

”Grandpa Liu, be careful. Don’t go too far.” Jiang Xiaoxue quickly reminded him.

”Don’t worry, Grandpa knows. You two sisters stay around here, don’t wander too far.” Uncle Liu’s hearty voice came from ahead, clearly very happy.

Ever since he arrived at the Jiang family, Uncle Liu has visibly become more energetic.

If you directly compare Uncle Liu from a few years ago to now, it’s clear that he seems younger now than when he first arrived at the Jiang family a few years back.

This is one of the reasons Uncle Liu prefers staying with the Jiang family instead of being attended by servants at home.

Over the past few years, other than occasionally going out to do geomancy and design a house plan, he has hardly ever left the Jiang family.

Well, except for last year’s special circumstances.

Just after Uncle Liu left, those kids came up.

This side only had this patch of bamboo forest, and they were on the edge, so it was inevitable they’d meet.

Neither Xiaomi nor Xiaoxue were the outgoing type, so when they saw strangers, they just intended to step aside. The bamboo forest is so big, everyone can mind their own business without getting in each other’s way.

However, as those kids passed by them, the boy leading the group suddenly stopped and looked at Xiaomi.

”I think I’ve seen you before, are you the young ladies of the Jiang family?” The boy said to Xiaomi, although his skin was dark, his eyes were bright.

Xiaomi was taken aback and nodded: ”Our surname is Jiang, but don’t call us young ladies. We’re just like you, country kids. I’m called Xiaomi, and this is my sister Xiaoxue.”

Even though she didn’t like mingling with kids, since they had greeted her, it wouldn’t be polite to ignore them.

The boy who spoke looked about seven or eight years old. Xiaomi felt he looked familiar, like she had seen him somewhere before, but she couldn’t remember.

”Country kids live in such a big yard, huh? My dad said those who live in that courtyard are wealthy gentlemen.”

Among the kids, that boy was the bravest, while the others just watched them with curiosity but didn’t speak.

Xiaomi shrugged: ”Believe it or not, have you seen a wealthy gentleman working in the fields themselves?”

Her parents had been busy in the fields every day recently, as if it wasn’t true, right?

What she said made a lot of sense, and the boy believed her.

”I see, by the way, my name is Zhang An. My dad is the village chief. Are you here to dig bamboo shoots too? There’s another bamboo grove beyond this one, with bigger and better bamboo shoots.”

So he was the village chief’s son, no wonder it seemed like the others always followed his lead, and Zhang An did appear braver.

But, bigger bamboo shoots?

Xiaomi’s eyes lit up: ”Can we go there with you?”

Big bamboo shoots and small bamboo shoots have different textures, but big bamboo shoots are easier to dig! And they’re bigger!

Zhang An seemed even happier than Xiaomi: ”Of course, these bamboo shoots on the mountain are for everyone to dig.”

Anothert boy behind Zhang An tugged at his sleeve, frowned, and even looked at Xiaomi with a bit of hostility, then said to Zhang An, ”There might not be that many bamboo shoots in that grove either.”

These bamboo shoots can be a dish, and they can be sold for money, everyone wants to dig more. Who knew Zhang An would be so generous!

Xiaomi noticed this too and was about to say she wouldn’t go after all, knowing she could wait until they left to go later, no need to make herself unwelcome.

But before she could speak, Zhang An glared at that boy: ”Bamboo shoots grow every day, what’s there to be afraid of? We can come back tomorrow.”

”No need.” Xiaomi quickly said, ”You go ahead. We still have to wait for Grandpa, we can’t leave now.”

It was clear that except for Zhang An, the others didn’t seem very welcoming of them.
