Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 325: Chapter 231: Climbing the Mountain (Part 3)

After all, by the creek, there are terraced fields connected in patches, filled with wheat and sorghum, making it much more convenient to fetch water from the creek.

”Look, there’s fish in there!” exclaimed Xiaomi, grabbing Wei Ziang’s arm and almost jumping up.

Just now, the shadow of a small crucian carp flashed by.

”I saw it too. It’s normal to have fish here where the water isn’t rushing.”

Wei Ziang held Xiaomi’s hand tightly, afraid she would get too excited and jump into the water.

But Xiaomi clearly hadn’t had enough, squatting down directly, and picking up a stick to poke around in the water.

”What are you looking for?”

Xiaomi quickly knocked off a small object, which Wei Ziang saw: ”A snail?”

”Yes, it’s a snail, but it’s so small.” Compared to the snails they’ve seen and eaten before, it’s much smaller and there aren’t many of them.

Wei Ziang glanced around, not finding it strange: ”The creek here flows constantly, and it rained a few days ago. With the rain, the water rose and probably washed the bigger ones away.”

”Besides, snails are usually the fattest around Mid-Autumn. They definitely haven’t grown much yet.”

Initially planning to scoop up the little creature, Xiaomi immediately retracted her outstretched hand.

”Then let’s keep climbing the mountain. I didn’t expect this tiny creek to hold so many small surprises. I wonder what the mountain looks like.”

”This creek flows down from the mountain, so the source is naturally up there. Otherwise, there might be even higher mountains above.”

They had seen the creek at the foot of the mountain before, and the terraces only reached halfway up the slope, with trees and forest above.

It’s not impossible for there to be more connected, higher mountains behind this one.

Xiaomi, energized, shouted at Xiao Hei not to run too far ahead, continuing to climb quickly upward.

The saying goes ”look at the mountain and you’ll tire a horse.” They seemed close while looking from the foot, but once the two of them followed the creek, winding and twisting to the end of the terraces, more than half an hour had passed.

”So tiring! Why is it so far?” Even Xiaomi, who usually loves running around the mountains, couldn’t help but pant heavily.

”It’s mainly because we’ve been going around instead of directly uphill, so the journey is a bit longer.”

Wei Ziang supported Xiaomi, taking a breather: ”Do we still go up? We don’t know what’s up there.”

”Xiao Hei~” Xiaomi called out. Earlier, Xiao Hei had run ahead.

”Woof woof~” Came Xiao Hei’s sound from the woods, and Xiaomi perked up: ”Let’s go up and see, after all, there’s a path.”

There really was a path. On both sides of the creek, small footpaths had been worn out, with a small wooden bridge in between.

Today’s weather is really nice. Though it’s not yet February, today’s sun is quite big, much warmer than when they woke up this morning.

Originally, it wasn’t too tiring, but because the sun keeps shining, it gets quite hot, and sweat starts trickling down.

However, as soon as entering the woods, with sunlight blocked, a sudden coolness is felt on the back, but it also immediately refreshes you.

”Quite a few people have come up this mountain.” Now cooled down, climbing feels much lighter.

Wei Ziang surveyed the surroundings, originally thinking the paths beside the terraces were from fetching water, but turns out the woods had specifically been cleared.

There are obvious cut tree branches beside the path, just not freshly, likely done previously, conveniently clearing a path.

Xiaomi wasn’t too concerned: ”Maybe it’s for firewood cutting, for winter fires or making charcoal to sell. Doesn’t our family also prepare a lot of firewood each year?”

Wei Ziang thought for a moment: ”Maybe.”

But they were close to the village outskirts, and this creek extended quite a bit towards the village. Cutting wood from here seems a bit circuitous.

Dots of sunlight trickling through windows danced on the water’s surface, shimmering beautifully.

The two weren’t in a rush anymore, strolling leisurely, occasionally peeking into the creek, sometimes spotting small fish, and even eels darting away.

They occasionally let out exclamations, amazed by the small creatures found in the creek, while curiosity about the mountain top subsided a bit.

Fortunately, there were no bushes on the path, so even without watching the path, there was no worry of snake bites or such.

Nevertheless, the journey still had its limits, as before long they reached a relatively flat area.

But the creek beside them hadn’t reached an end, nor had they seen the water source.

Because in front of them, there was obviously another upward slope, confirming their previous speculation of more mountains, making finding the water source not so easy.

”So, do we continue climbing?”

Xiaomi pouted, wrinkling her nose, ”We didn’t bring any food up, did we?”

If it was just her, it wouldn’t matter. She could grab something to eat from her space, and could easily continue the journey.

But with Wei Ziang, it might not be feasible.

Wei Ziang: ”...”

It seems like she still wants to go up.

”I brought a firestone. If we catch some game, we can have a meal on the mountain.”

Xiaomi almost jumped up!

”Really? That’s great! You’re amazing, Brother! You actually thought to bring a firestone!”
