Inheritance of Two Trillion

Chapter 2810: Chapter 1982: Can’t Figure Out What He’s Doing

Ever since she’d met Bai Xiaosheng, Amido had given orders: if that Bai Xiaosheng tried to make an appointment with her, there was no need to ask for instructions—drag it out if you could, brush him off if you could.

She figured, given Bai Xiaosheng’s status, it was impossible he’d just show up and force his way in demanding to see her.

After all, the business president of Zhenbei Group was a person of lofty standing; if not for something this big happening here, she’d probably have a hard time meeting him even if she wanted to.

But now things were different—he had to rush to set up a meeting with her.

That was exactly what Amido was counting on.

Yet three days in a row, though Amido deliberately packed her schedule full, she didn’t hear her assistant report a single piece of news from Zhenbei Group.

Bai Xiaosheng had come early, and he was definitely here to fix their mess; the current conflict was jammed up on her side, so there was no reason for him not to come looking for her.

Amido was starting to feel confused.

Clearly that day, that man had even deliberately caused a fender bender, trying to manufacture a chance to talk.

Two more days went by.

Amido finally couldn’t hold back anymore; she called over her assistant and directly asked, ”Still no word from their side?”

”You mean, which side?” The assistant was thrown by such a random, contextless question and couldn’t react for a moment.

”Changhu Company, and Zhenbei Group.” Amido prompted.

”No.” The assistant shook her head outright.

”Not even once?!” Amido immediately frowned.

The assistant gave a wry smile. ”If there were, how could I not tell you about something this important? Not even once.”

”What about Fei’er, has she come by again?” Amido asked again.

”No either.” The assistant was very sure.

But after answering, the assistant herself got curious. ”Right, it’s almost been a week now. How come they haven’t come back at all? Aren’t they in a hurry to restart the project? Before, that Miss Fei’er was in a blazing rush—she ran over here five times in three days.”

Amido narrowed her eyes slightly and murmured, ”What kind of game is he playing?”

On her side, she could afford to drag it out; Changhu Company was the party that couldn’t.

Now it was the other side that seemed calm and collected, quiet as a mouse.

Actually, Amido was stalling like this not because she wanted to make things hard for Changhu Company. After all, behind Changhu Company stood the behemoth that was Zhenbei Group—being at odds with them was all harm and no benefit.

What Amido was after, of course, was profit.

But now the other side wasn’t even offering a chance to meet—that was a bit puzzling.

You couldn’t negotiate like this.

Amido was both at a loss and baffled; in fact she was getting a little anxious.

She didn’t know why, but there was even a faint sense of unease.

”How about I call them and ask?” Seeing Amido silent, the assistant probed cautiously.

What was this, that they had to take the initiative to contact the other side now...

”No.” Amido waved her hand, her gaze fixed on a point in front of her as she said in a low voice, ”Let me think a bit more.”

In her mind, the image of Bai Xiaosheng from the other day surfaced again.

At first she’d only thought that man looked good and carried himself well; now, as she recalled him, there was inexplicably a few more degrees of annoyance.

”Just what is he up to?!” Amido muttered.

Amido’s confusion was now shared by another woman as well.

That woman was Fei’er.

Ever since they’d checked into the hotel, these past few days Bai Xiaosheng had always taken Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying out with him, gone all day.

When she asked, they only said they were out solving the problems here.

When she asked if they were going to negotiate a settlement with that Amido, she was told no.

And Bai Xiaosheng had clearly told her she was not allowed to try and make an appointment with Amido, under any public or private pretext.

If Fei’er didn’t listen, Bai Xiaosheng had said he’d drop this mess entirely and hand it straight back to Mrs. Margery.

After that, Fei’er didn’t dare make any moves in private.

But she also had absolutely no idea what Bai Xiaosheng was doing.

He said he was solving the problem, yet he wasn’t contacting the key person Amido—what kind of play was that?

On this particular day, it was rare that Bai Xiaosheng and the others didn’t go out. Hearing this, Fei’er hurried over, determined to ask around and pry something out of him.

”Mr. Bai, why are you keeping things from me alone? Am I not on your side? Am I on the other side? I came here early and cleared up so many problems ahead of time, and you still act on your own without taking me along. Aren’t you afraid that’ll chill my heart?”

Fei’er came in and immediately spoke to Bai Xiaosheng in a wheedling, aggrieved tone.

Bai Xiaosheng was sipping tea as he grinned at her. ”Miss Fei’er, listen to yourself—how could I not trust you? You said it yourself, you came here early, running around till the sky spun, exhausted for days on end. Now that we’re here, of course we should let you take a break. I can promise you the issue will be resolved. All you need to do is wait for the result—do you really have to know the whole process?”

Beside him, Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying both nodded along.

”Fine, even if I don’t ask about the process, I should at least know when this matter can be settled, right? Our project really can’t afford to be delayed.”

Fei’er said, ”Never mind that every day the construction is stopped we’re paying who knows how much to maintain personnel and equipment costs—if we keep dragging it out without resolving this last conflict, other people will start getting ideas, and then we’ll have trouble piling up again and again.”

Fei’er’s concerns were not unfounded.

As long as this issue had no conclusion, she couldn’t feel at ease.

Faced with her anxiety, Bai Xiaosheng was extremely relaxed. Smiling, he said, ”What we’ve been laying the groundwork for these last few days is about done. If things go quickly, there’ll be a result in three to five days.”

”And if it’s slow?” Fei’er blurted out.

”There is no slow, only faster.” Bai Xiaosheng smiled.

That answer didn’t follow any script.

Fei’er stared blankly for a moment, then followed his wording. ”Then... if it’s faster?”

”If it’s faster, then about today.” Bai Xiaosheng gave his answer.

Today?

Fei’er was speechless for a moment.

That was way too fast.

Seeing that Bai Xiaosheng was speaking earnestly, not joking, Fei’er became even more curious, itching to know just what he had been doing these past few days.

”You keep saying we don’t take you out with us—this afternoon I’ll take you somewhere.” Bai Xiaosheng offered on his own.

”Really?!” Fei’er lit up with delight at once.

Bai Xiaosheng nodded with a smile and deliberately reminded her, ”It’s a big occasion, dress a bit more formally.”

Fei’er immediately said, ”Then I’ll go get ready right now!”

After Bai Xiaosheng nodded, Fei’er whirled away like the wind.

Lin Weiwei couldn’t help saying to Bai Xiaosheng, ”Is it okay to bring her along?”

Bai Xiaosheng smiled. ”It’s fine.”

...

At lunch, while eating, Amido was still mulling over what kind of strategy that Bai Xiaosheng from Zhenbei Group was playing.

But think as she might, no matter what that man planned to do, there was absolutely no way he could get around her.

Unless their project dared to ignore Geduo’ya’s laws and moved ahead with construction without making peace with her.

Never!

Amido shook her head outright.

Although she couldn’t figure out what move Bai Xiaosheng would make next, she decided to respond to all changes by remaining unchanged. Since they would have to negotiate with her sooner or later, she might as well think through her asking price and fight to maximize her benefit.

For this, Amido got to work preparing three compensation and settlement packages.

Each package was far above the figure Changhu Company had initially offered.

While Amido was still thinking through these issues, her assistant came running over to ask, ”Miss Amido, which outfit do you want to wear to attend the chamber of commerce event this afternoon?”

This female assistant was also Amido’s personal lifestyle assistant.

Amido said directly, ”The suit dress I had custom-made in Europe last month. Use the No. 7 check accessories, and use the matching set of lipstick and perfume.”

She had a wardrobe right in the office—from clothes, shoes, bags, to accessories and even cosmetics, everything came in sets.

Facing different occasions with a different version of herself was Amido’s life motto, and that was how she managed to live so exquisitely and attractively.

”Okay.” The assistant nodded at once.

”And book me an appointment—I want to get my hair done this afternoon, and a skin treatment too.” Amido added.

The assistant nodded and noted it down.

What was happening today could be called a major event in her life; she had to show up in full regalia and dazzle the whole room.

Once she thought of that, the Changhu Company matter was temporarily set aside.

After lunch, Amido had her hair done and then a skin treatment, and by then it was about time.

She changed into that suit dress and headed out with her assistant.

In the prime, astronomically expensive central district of Daqing Reef City, at the entrance of a star-rated hotel, Amido’s car slowly pulled to a stop.

The lobby manager, already waiting by the hotel entrance, saw the car and personally hurried over to pull open the door. When he saw Amido’s makeup and styling, his eyes even went a bit blank; then he quickly smiled apologetically. ”Miss Amido, welcome! Just now, I was a bit out of line!”

”It’s fine.” Amido gave him a graceful, slight smile.

In fact, she greatly enjoyed that moment when men lost themselves in front of her.

Amido, with her assistant in tow, walked into the hotel and headed straight for the elevators.

Along the way, looks were constantly cast in her direction.

It was like walking a red carpet.

Today was going to be a very important moment in her life!
