Super Rich by Doing as You Please

After finishing their coffee, the two set off again.

Although they weren’t in a rush, the border was long and dotted with countless cities.

If they stopped in every single place, a few months would probably pass in the blink of an eye.

So, Xu Yun chose to follow Lin Wanzhou’s lead.

According to his planned route, they would spend more time in places worth stopping at and skip the ones that weren’t.

Not every city, not every place, was worth seeing.

After all, Lin Wanzhou was familiar with this route; this was his home turf. Best to leave professional matters to the professionals and not meddle unnecessarily. Otherwise, what would have been the point of bringing him along?

Lin Wanzhou said that the reason he’d chosen to start from Guangxi and Yunnan and then enter Tibet was primarily to let Xu Yun gradually acclimate to the altitude and prevent severe altitude sickness.

In these areas, the most dangerous thing—the thing that could kill you—wasn’t something external, but severe altitude sickness.

But back on Hong Kong Island, after he realized Xu Yun’s skills were superior to his own, he felt he had been worrying too much.

For a martial artist, lung capacity was supposedly not a concern.

In truth, he didn’t know that Xu Yun had relied on a system that one time, a bit like being possessed by a spirit.

After it was over, his physical stats were more or less back to normal.

There had been some improvement, but not much!

After leaving Guangxi and passing through Yunnan, they stopped for a day in a small, temporary border town.

One reason was to resupply; the other was to visit the local martyrs’ cemetery.

Lin Wanzhou explained that this place had been one of the major battlefields during the Sino-Vietnamese War. He also told him about things like Yunnan’s local ”Three Lives Education.”

To be honest, as someone from the interior, Xu Yun had never known about these things before.

But after hearing what Lin Wanzhou had to say, he was deeply moved.

People lived in the same world, the same country, yet their education, their beliefs, and their living environments could be worlds apart.

At the same time, his admiration and respect for Lin Wanzhou’s past grew even stronger.

Because Lin Wanzhou himself had once been a member of a border combat unit. He had been wounded and had shed blood.

On the surface, he was telling other people’s stories, but in reality, weren’t they his own as well?

He said that many people call the post-90s and post-00s generations a lost cause, but they don’t know how many of his comrades from those same generations were buried in places like this, never to return home.

It was precisely because this new batch of soldiers stepped up to take their place that people like him were able to retire and come back.

Then they set off again. Along the way, they crossed terraced fields, rainforests, tea mountains, and volcanic landscapes.

Along the way, he also saw the rows of wire mesh fences beyond the highway—a long, long border wall—and also saw over ten kilometers of white oleanders.

As evening approached, Lin Wanzhou pulled over at a spot on the road.

He said, ”Let’s camp here for the night.”

”Why? I saw a town just up ahead.”

”Because this is also the only place on our route with a good view of Meili Snow Mountain. If we miss it, we won’t get another chance. Don’t you want to see it?”

”Uh, okay then.”

After finding a good spot and parking the car, it was time to start preparing dinner.

The vehicle had a kitchen, but the space was too small for Lin Wanzhou to work in comfortably, so he set up an awning outside, planning to cook there instead.

Having spent a long time in the wild, he had many Skills, and cooking was just a basic one.

Xu Yun had eaten his cooking several times along the way, and it was always delicious.

Of course, the ingredients he had prepared in the car were top-notch as well.

High-quality steaks, cocktail shrimp, red wine, and champagne.

But these days, it was mostly Coke!

Because as the altitude increased, Xu Yun had started showing signs of mild altitude sickness, which surprised Lin Wanzhou.

To alleviate his symptoms, he had bought a large amount of Coke to keep in the vehicle.

Lin Wanzhou explained, ”Everyone knows you need oxygen for altitude sickness, but what most people don’t know is that when the sickness is mild and you’re just starting to feel the signs, drinking a bottle of Coke can solve the problem.”

So Xu Yun had been drinking quite a lot of it on this trip.

As the altitude increased, the surrounding temperature and humidity dropped. A thin jacket was no longer enough.

So, both of them changed into insulated, cold-proof hard-shell jackets, set up a table, chairs, and a grill, and began to make dinner.

Although Xu Yun didn’t know how to cook, he could help out.

In no time, the aroma of steak sizzling on the charcoal grill filled the air, making Xu Yun’s mouth water.

When you’re hungry out in the wild, everything tastes delicious.

Xu Yun took a piece and had just taken a few bites when a red G-Wagen suddenly pulled up and stopped right next to their vehicle.

The sky hadn’t completely darkened yet, and the headlights were a bit blinding.

Xu Yun frowned, while Lin Wanzhou watched the other vehicle warily.

A moment later, a woman got out of the car. She was dressed in full outdoor gear and carrying a backpack.

It’s unclear what she said to the driver, but the G-Wagen suddenly started up again, made a U-turn, and drove off, leaving her there.

It just made a U-turn and left?

This move left Xu Yun and Lin Wanzhou completely baffled.

It was almost dark. They’d just abandoned a woman here and driven back?

Just as they were trying to make sense of the situation, the woman started walking towards them. As she got closer, the expressions on Xu Yun’s and Lin Wanzhou’s faces slowly began to change.

From surprise to confusion, and then to wariness.

Because they recognized this beautiful woman. It was Fu Baoying, the manager of the Shatian Racecourse, the one Xu Yun had claimed had a crush on him.

Lin Wanzhou glanced at the newcomer, then back at Xu Yun, and teased, ”Looks like your love debt has come to collect.”
