Super Rich by Doing as You Please

With that said, she turned and asked, ”Mr. Xu, where should we send your winnings?”

”Here you go.”

Xu Yun handed his black card to the male secretary, saying, ”Sorry for the trouble.”

”Go on, and be quick about it. I’ll chat with Mr. Xu while we wait for you to get back.”

”Yes, President Fu.”

After the secretary left, Fu Baoying continued, ”This is a rather large sum, so the payout procedure is a bit complex. It will take some time. I’m afraid you’ll have to wait here for a little while.”

”That’s no problem. I’d be happy to stay the night if President Fu asked me to.”

”As long as you don’t mind, Mr. Xu, that can certainly be arranged.”

Fu Baoying smiled. ”Mr. Xu, this must be your first time here, isn’t it? You’re a new face. I don’t believe I’ve seen you before.”

”That’s right. I’m just here traveling.”

Xu Yun replied, ”I had some time to kill and wanted to experience the horse racing culture here. I never expected to win just by betting on a whim. Guess I got lucky.”

Fu Baoying was silent.

’Thirty million, and you call that betting on a whim?’

She strongly suspected he had come prepared and had used some unknown method to control the outcome of the race.

Based on the betting patterns, the winners of the last three races of the day should have been predetermined, with the jockeys controlling the pace. Yet, something went wrong in the final two races.

Which led to Xu Yun winning two in a row.

If the winning horses hadn’t belonged to jockeys on their own payroll, she would have suspected Xu Yun of buying them off.

But since she had no proof against him, she had no choice but to accept the loss.

Just as Ruan Qingnian had said, it was only a little over two hundred million. While that was an astronomical sum for an individual, it wasn’t much for the club. They could easily absorb the loss.

In fact, they could use this incident to heavily promote the ”allure” of the Shatian Racecourse, tempting gamblers who dreamed of striking it rich. It would be like getting a massive advertising campaign for free, albeit at a high price.

Of course, it would be even better if they could recruit Mr. Xu and make him one of their own.

As it happened, the club was looking to bring some bigwigs from the Mainland into its fold, and they had recently relaxed the entry requirements.

Fu Baoying smiled and asked, ”Mr. Xu, have you ever heard of our racing club?”

”My friend, Young Master Ruan, mentioned it. His family are members of your club.”

Xu Yun’s answer finally made Fu Baoying turn her attention to Ruan Qingnian, who was standing beside him.

She looked at him quizzically. ”You’re the son of President Ruan from Huayi?”

”That’s right, President Fu.”

Ruan Qingnian had been uncharacteristically quiet ever since he walked in. It was because he didn’t dare to overstep his bounds in front of a powerhouse like her.

His family might be considered wealthy in the eyes of the general public, but to people like President Fu, they were nothing special.

After all, even among the rich, there are different tiers of wealth.

She wasn’t much older than him, but her family was incredibly powerful. Even his own father was exceedingly polite to her, to say nothing of a junior like himself.

”I haven’t seen your father at any of the recent gatherings.”

Fu Baoying asked with concern, ”I heard he took a fall a while back. Is he doing all right?”

”My father is doing well. Thank you for your concern, President Fu.”

”When you see him, please give him my regards.”

Fu Baoying added, ”Also, a horse from your family’s stable took first place today. Please congratulate him for me on another great result.”

”Of course, President Fu. I will.”

After a brief exchange with Ruan Qingnian, Fu Baoying turned her attention back to Xu Yun.

”Mr. Xu, since you’re a friend of Young Master Ruan’s and you already know a bit about our club, would you be interested in joining?”

Fu Baoying continued, ”Once you become a member, you’ll find that everything is much more convenient on Hong Kong Island, whether you’re here for leisure or for business.

And since you’re interested in horse racing, Mr. Xu, becoming a member means you can even own your own racehorse here at our stables.

Betting on someone else’s horse can never compare to the satisfaction of watching your very own horse win the championship.”

”I think I’ll pass.”

Xu Yun declined with a smile. ”I heard from Young Master Ruan that your club is notoriously difficult to get into. You need recommendations and guarantees from current members, and I don’t know anyone here.”

”You don’t have to worry about that, Mr. Xu.”

Fu Baoying said, ”That rule applies to others. For you, Mr. Xu, if you’re willing to join, I can handle everything.

Furthermore, I promise to arrange a permanent VIP suite for you right here at the Shatian Racecourse.”

”President Fu, may I ask a question?”

Xu Yun asked, ”Why are you so eager to have me join?”

”Even though this is our first time meeting, Mr. Xu, I feel we have a certain chemistry. I’d very much like to be your friend.”

”President Fu, if it’s just about being friends, then I’d be more than happy to have a beautiful friend like you.”

Xu Yun refused again. ”But as for joining the club, I’ll have to pass. I’m someone who values my freedom. I’m used to doing my own thing and don’t particularly enjoy joining organizations. Thank you for the kind offer.”

’Hmph, some honey trap. She won’t even take her clothes off. Who does she think she’s looking down on?’

’Joining the club? Never going to happen.’

’I’m a model socialist youth. How could I possibly join one of you capitalist organizations!’

Seeing that he had no intention of joining for the time being, Fu Baoying didn’t press the issue, not wanting to sour their new acquaintance.

”Very well, Mr. Xu.”

She took out her phone. ”Could I get your contact information? Whenever you change your mind about joining, just let me know.

Or, the next time you’re visiting, you can send me a message ahead of time. As your host, I’ll be sure to treat you with the warmest hospitality.”
