Super Rich by Doing as You Please

”Brother Zhang, Sister Fen.”

Xu Yun said with a smile, ”Let me introduce you. These two are friends of mine, both from the entertainment industry.

”One of them is Wanqing, who’s about to head to the Mainland to further her career, and the other is Michelle, who is based here on Hong Kong Island.

”If you run into them at work in the future, please look out for them if you get the chance.”

”President Xu, your friends are our friends. You don’t have to say that; it makes us sound like strangers.”

Upon hearing this, Cai Shaofen’s attitude did a complete one-eighty. She turned to them and said, ”You two, let’s exchange contact information later. That way, if a suitable opportunity comes up, I can get in touch with you.

”We may not be A-listers, but we have decent connections on both Hong Kong Island and the Mainland.”

”Then I’ll thank you both on their behalf.”

Xu Yun called a waiter over and said to the group, ”Alright, everyone, let’s order. We can talk while we eat.”

A restaurant this nice was naturally expensive.

The set menus started at a few thousand per person, with the most expensive costing 50,000.

Wanqing and Michelle looked at the prices and were secretly stunned, each choosing a mid-range individual set menu.

The others did much the same.

Only Xu Yun went ahead and ordered the most expensive one.

’Since I’m here to eat, I might as well have the best and most expensive thing they offer.’

’Now that I have money, there’s no reason to shortchange myself.’

Zhang Jin and his wife’s eyelids merely twitched.

But then again, it was in line with his personality and spending habits.

Besides, a meal costing a couple hundred thousand was something the two of them could still afford!

.....

In a certain villa, Ruan Qingnian was having dinner with his parents.

The atmosphere at home was particularly pleasant today.

The reason was simple.

Their family’s horse had won its race today, achieving its best result ever, and Ruan Guohua was delighted.

However, when his son went on to tell him about Xu Yun, his composure vanished.

’A young man in his twenties, who’s only practiced martial arts for two or three years, can take down Master Liang in just a few moves?’

’And on top of that, he managed to win two races in a row at Shatian Racecourse today, walking away with over 200 million in winnings!’

’Only a fool like my son would believe it was just luck!’

’As a long-standing member of the Horse Club, while he wasn’t part of the inner circle, he understood some of its inner workings.’

’Winning the first bet might have been luck.’

’He could accept that.’

’But for the second race, once the Club knew he’d placed such a heavy bet, they would have certainly intervened to manipulate the outcome and prevent him from winning again.’

’But in the end, this Xu Yun still won.’

’Now that was interesting.’

’Could it be that his influence had already quietly infiltrated the Horse Club’s operations, allowing him to fix the races?’

’So on the surface, it looked like he was just casually playing, but in his heart, he was already absolutely certain of the outcome.’

’Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been so confident as to spend 30 million betting on three consecutive races.’

’No sane person would do that!’

’The only thing that was puzzling...’

’If my theory is correct, then why didn’t the horse he bet on win the first race? Why did our family’s horse win instead?’

’Was it to create a false impression? To avoid suspicion?’

’No, that wasn’t it.’

’He suddenly remembered a detail.’

’His son had said that before placing the bet, his friend had casually mentioned betting on their own family’s horse, but because his son had already done so, he switched to a different horse at the last second.’

’What did that imply?’

’It implied that he knew all along that their family’s number 8 horse was going to win.’

’He could have won all three races, but for some reason, he deliberately lost the first one!’

The more Ruan Guohua thought about it, the more horrified he became. He was utterly shocked.

Everyone on Hong Kong Island knew that the Mainland had hidden depths, a powerful heritage, and was home to many formidable families.

Although he had yet to meet the young man, after hearing about his exploits, Ruan Guohua had an instinct that his son had befriended someone truly extraordinary.

If they were lucky, his son had befriended the child of some top-tier magnate.

He figured that must be why that woman, Fu Baoying, had wanted to personally recruit him into the club.

Unfortunately, the young man didn’t seem to think much of the offer and rejected it on the spot.

”Qingnian, when your friend won that prize of over 200 million, what was his reaction?”

Ruan Guohua asked. ”Was he excited? Happy?”

”Not at all. He was perfectly calm.”

Ruan Qingnian recalled, ”I don’t think he was even as excited as I was when our horse won.”

”Alright. I see.”

Ruan Guohua thought to himself, ’It seems my analysis was correct.’

’Faced with a colossal prize of 200 million, even he himself might not be able to remain so composed.’

’But he was able to handle it with complete composure, without even batting an eye.’

’Perhaps to him, or to his family, an extra 200 million was nothing special—not something worth getting excited about, and not something they cared much about.’

’That kind of mental fortitude was something that could only be cultivated by the children of the absolute top-tier families.’

Ruan Guohua asked, ”Qingnian, how did you meet him?”

”Er...”

Ruan Qingnian hesitated before answering vaguely, ”At a friend’s gathering.”

”Did he approach you first?”

”No, he’s from the same hometown as a friend of mine. I just went over to say hello, we chatted for a bit, and that’s how we met.”

”Since when do you have friends from the Mainland?”

”I don’t. He’s the husband of Cai Shaofen, an actress at our company.”

Ruan Qingnian said, ”We’d met at a few gatherings before. You know he practices martial arts, right? I’m into that, so we just started hanging out.”

”So that’s how it is.”

Ruan Guohua asked, ”So, while you’ve been hanging out with Xu Yun these past couple of days, have you been a good host? Is there anything he needs that you could help him with?”

”What could someone like him possibly need my help with?”
