This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Unmoved by Du Heng’s gratitude, Ding Zhankui only twitched the corner of his mouth and said, ”However, your method is quite troublesome. Non-professionals don’t even have a chance to get started. Even the professionals need to be well-rounded in traditional Chinese medicine. The requirements are quite strict. Given our current traditional Chinese medicine education system, it’s not conducive to widespread promotion.”

Ding Zhankui’s words hit Du Heng right where it hurt.

By all rights, two achievements had already been produced from his current project team. If he posted them directly and ended the project, he could quickly reap both fame and fortune. But Du Heng held back, not allowing the facial paralysis and hemiplegia prescriptions and papers to be urgently released in Jinzhou. Why? Isn’t it because the requirements for practicing physicians are too strict, and their learning progress is too slow? So far, the only person who can really hold up under pressure is Wu Buwei. Two people from the Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine are also somewhat reliable. As for the others, Du Heng can hardly put his feelings into words. Especially last month, after the TCM practitioners from Di County arrived, Du Heng could feel Wu Buwei’s near-collapse emotions every night when reading Wu Buwei’s emails. If the project were to end, the training costs would either drag Du Heng down or drag down the doctors coming from Di County for training. Because this isn’t something that can be taught in a short time, or one-on-one. They must be ’fed’ a large number of disease records. As Ding Zhankui had just mentioned, one must achieve a thorough integration of viscera studies, Meridian Study, and modern medicine to meet Du Heng’s basic requirements. But the problem is that practitioners from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Internal Medicine Department, who specialize in viscera studies, are severely lacking in knowledge of meridians. Those who know acupuncture and massage, and are masters of Meridian Study, struggle with the application of Decoction medicine, which is a very frustrating situation. Not to mention, in the later stages of rehabilitation, modern medical rehabilitation methods must also be employed.

”Mr. Ding, you are truly perceptive, spotting the problem at a glance,” Du Heng said with a bitter smile. ”The project is now focused on training newcomers, and the leaders in Jinzhou are urging me to end it. I really don’t dare to terminate it.”

Upon hearing this, Ding Zhankui snorted coldly. ”Don’t mind them. They’re just a bunch of bureaucrats who only want results. They don’t understand the real significance of your project. Finding a solution is important, but cultivating batches of capable and skilled doctors is even more essential.”

”Thank you, Mr. Ding. I will persevere.”

Ding Zhankui suddenly sighed. ”I should also thank you. Without you, I might not have seen my adorable little grandson. Acute kidney injury... I really don’t know how that girl is a mother.”

Ding Zhankui then tightly grasped Du Heng’s hand. ”And for Yuxue’s situation, I also have to thank you. I...”

At this point, Ding Zhankui paused. With Dr. Liu present, he didn’t want to overly praise Du Heng regarding his daughter’s matter. He simply applied a little more force to his grip, expressing his emotions.

After hearing Ding Zhankui’s words, Du Heng’s eyes lit up. ”You’ve seen the child?”

”Yes, Yuxue’s mother went to be with the child last night, while I stayed here to watch over Yuxue.”

At this, Du Heng breathed a sigh of relief, finally having one less thing to worry about.

Du Heng then suggested, ”Shall we go see Professor Ding then?”

Dr. Liu and Ding Zhankui naturally had no objections and walked together toward the cubicle.

It was only after he spoke that Du Heng realized how awkward it sounded. He addressed Ding Yuxue as Professor, but called Ding Zhankui, an actual professor, Mr. Ding. No matter how he thought about it, it felt strange.

Given Ding Zhankui’s earlier demeanor, Du Heng felt more relaxed as they walked towards Ding Yuxue’s cubicle.

Since Ding Zhankui had just spent a good while chatting with him, it meant that Ding Yuxue, who had woken up, must surely be back to normal. If she were still not normal, Ding Zhankui wouldn’t have been in the mood to chat much, not even if Hua Tuo himself had appeared—much less with Du Heng. Because a father’s love for his daughter is beyond imagination.

Similarly, Du Heng gained a new appreciation for human psychological endurance. Du Heng had previously been least confident that Ding Yuxue could adjust and return to normal after each dose of medicine, despite being repeatedly provoked. Her recovery from the first episode was due to the medicine’s efficacy. But to recover the second time was an effect that couldn’t be achieved by medicine alone; it required extraordinary psychological endurance.

On the sickbed, Ding Yuxue was now awake but still confined by the straitjacket. However, she wasn’t struggling; she just lay there quietly.

If she hadn’t turned her head to look at everyone entering upon hearing the sounds, a faint light flashing in her eyes, one might have thought she had become listless.

Once everyone had gathered, Dr. Liu stepped forward first to perform a simple examination and ask some questions. When he found that her mental state was indeed normal, a hint of surprised delight flashed across his face, and he then made way for Du Heng.

Du Heng didn’t stand on ceremony and directly began pulse diagnosis.

After reaching a conclusion in his heart, he exchanged a few words with Dr. Liu and then removed the straitjacket from Ding Yuxue.
