This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

The daughter ran away, and so did the mother.

The problem was, both of them seemed mentally a bit abnormal.

Du Heng and the resident doctor exchanged glances, their eyes full of disbelief.

”Director, this...” The resident doctor was stunned, unsure what to ask.

Du Heng pursed his lips and quickly chased out of the consultation room. However, all he saw were the people in line whispering; the mother and daughter had vanished completely.

What on earth is going on? Du Heng thought. I didn’t want to say it in front of the Child, but they insisted. Now there’s a problem, isn’t there?

Although he wasn’t responsible for this, Du Heng still felt uneasy. But when he recalled the mother’s parenting style—especially her incessant, relentless criticism—he felt immense pressure, almost suffocating, not just for the Child but even for himself as an outsider.

Du Heng sighed. Upon returning to the consultation room, the first thing he did was call the resident doctor. ”You need to hurry to logistics now and have them back up the Video from just now. Remember, back up the Video from both the consultation room and the corridor.”

The resident doctor hesitated for a moment, then asked Du Heng doubtfully, ”Director, our Hospital’s surveillance backup can be stored for a week. Is this really necessary? Besides, this isn’t our fault. You’re being overly cautious.”

Du Heng shook his head with a bitter smile. This resident doctor is still so young, he thought. What kind of strange Things hadn’t I experienced during my one year at the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital?

”Just listen to me and go back it up quickly,” Du Heng said, a hint of helplessness in his voice. ”You saw the situation just now. Both mother and daughter seemed mentally unstable. If—and I mean *if*—an accident happens to one of them, do you think people from that kind of family background wouldn’t cause trouble?”

Du Heng had explained it this way, yet the resident doctor still didn’t understand. This wasn’t due to youth, as Du Heng initially thought, but simply a lack of experience from just starting his job.

”We have clear medical records, and so many people at the door can act as witnesses. They have no reason to cause a scene, right?” the resident doctor said naively.

Du Heng slowly walked back to his chair, sighed, and said, ”The diagnosis I just gave was based on my pulse diagnosis. If they truly intend to make trouble, we won’t have any concrete evidence. Pulse diagnosis works for us in treating Patients, but it can’t be used as evidence. You need to be clear on this now. Alright, even if pulse diagnosis could be used as evidence, consider this: what if the Child acts impulsively? What if she gets hit by a Car when leaving, or goes home, makes a scene, and is then provoked by her mother into jumping off a building? After the funeral, once the Corpse has been cremat, what will you do when they come looking for you? Also, are you sure those people outside will definitely testify as witnesses for us?”

At this point, Du Heng recalled an incident from the year before last. Du Xuejing’s Classmate, who had fainted from heatstroke, later jumped from a building, and her mother, misled by someone, had sued him. If Du Xuejing’s Classmate hadn’t provided evidence back then, it’s questionable whether I’d still be a Doctor today.

The resident doctor scratched his head and shifted his feet slowly. ”Director, aren’t you being too pessimistic? Although the girl is young, she at least knows she slept with the man. And from her behavior just now, she probably suspects she’s pregnant. Would such a clever, potentially vengeful person really jump off a building?”

”People’s hearts are the most unpredictable things; who can say for sure?” Du Heng stated, then shook his head. ”Could you endure that kind of talk from that Parent?”

The resident doctor decisively shook his head.

”Then what are you hesitating for? Hurry up and back up the Video,” Du Heng sighed. ”This is just a precaution. Better safe than sorry.”

After sending the resident doctor away, Du Heng no longer needed an assistant. He simply called out, ”Next!” and resumed his work.

Two consecutive unsettling incidents meant Du Heng’s mood took a little longer to adjust. However, the subsequent Patients were, for the most part, more normal, which was a considerable relief.

Once his work flowed smoothly, free from unreasonable troublemakers or those looking to stir up issues, his pace naturally quickened.

「Two hours later」

The congestion at the door had finally eased somewhat.

However, just as Du Heng was getting back into his rhythm, a phone call from Director Niu interrupted him again.

With no alternative, Du Heng could only apologize to the people waiting and hurry to the Nephrology Department.

”Deputy Director Du, you truly are amazing,” Director Niu exclaimed, praising Du Heng once again upon seeing him.

But Du Heng didn’t want to waste time on such meaningless flattery; he still had fifty or sixty Patients waiting for him at the outpatient service.

So, Du Heng merely chuckled lightly and asked Director Niu directly, ”What’s the situation now?”

Director Niu’s expression immediately turned serious. ”The Patient’s bowel movements are normal now, and the abdominal pain has resolved. We just took her temperature; it’s 36.4.”

Du Heng nodded silently. He and Director Niu went to check on the Patient again. Afterward, Du Heng told Director Niu, ”Stop the current medicine. We’ll switch to a different house.”

”A house for treating nephritis?” Director Niu asked.

Du Heng nodded. ”Your diagnosis was nephritis, but mine is kidney yin deficiency. Therefore, the next step is nourishing yin. Besides, Director Niu, you heard when I asked earlier: the Patient still experiences a burning sensation during urination. That also needs to be addressed.”
