This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

But other than this less-than-perfect aspect, there was nothing else wrong with the surgery.

So, if you wanted to blame the attending Physician, it was genuinely difficult to do so.

But now that the Patient had complications from the surgery, even if it wasn’t the attending Physician’s fault, it still became your problem.

Who made you his chief surgeon?

The Director of the Proctology Department also knew the attending Physician would be very upset at this moment. So, after just a glance, he slowly turned his head and said, ”Thank you all for your help. Since no one has any good solutions, we will continue to talk to the Patient’s family and hope to carry out a second surgery as soon as possible.”

Seeing the Director of the Proctology Department grit his teeth as he said these words, Director Qian hesitated several times but still couldn’t help coughing.

This cough immediately caught the attention of the Director of the Proctology Department, who promptly turned to Director Qian and asked, ”Director Qian, do you have any other ideas?”

Director Qian coughed softly. ”Ahem, why not ask Deputy Director Du Heng from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Internal Medicine Department to take a look?”

”Deputy Director Du Heng? Traditional Chinese Medicine Internal Medicine Department?” The Director of the Proctology Department was puzzled at first, then his eyes suddenly lit up, and his gaze towards Director Qian became strange.

”Director Qian, are you talking about the Deputy Director Du who, because of Professor Lan’s affairs last month, and you...”

”AHEM, AHEM~~~” Director Qian coughed loudly, interrupting the Director of the Proctology Department, his expression turning sour.

This guy is unbelievable! I kindly offered a suggestion, and this damn fellow is digging up my old wounds. What a jerk!

The Director of the Proctology Department realized he had misspoken when Director Qian coughed, but he still said stubbornly, ”Alright, Qian, stop coughing. We’re all colleagues here; it’s not a big deal.”

Not a big deal? It’s easy for you to say; you weren’t the one who was humiliated!

Director Qian glared fiercely at the Director of the Proctology Department.

The Director of the Proctology Department smiled. ”But Qian, can that Deputy Director Du really handle it? Are you confident?”

Director Qian looked displeased but still spoke, ”That’s a rather ignorant question.

How could I have any confidence? I’m not Du Heng himself, nor am I a TCM. How could I possibly give you a guarantee?

Since we’re on the topic, I’m not afraid of losing face anymore; I’ll tell you everything.

You all know about Professor Lan’s situation, so I won’t go into detail. Let me tell you about two other cases.”

The Director of the Proctology Department was astonished. ”No way, Qian! You sought him out again later?”

As the Director of the Proctology Department spoke, the Director of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Colorectal Department also looked at Director Qian, his face full of curiosity, awaiting his next words.

But this sentence made Director Qian curse inwardly.

The Director of the Proctology Department really has no tact; he’s the type to always bring up the one topic you want to avoid!

But what good would being upset do? Director Qian proceeded to recount the details of the ”malignant pancreatic cyst” case and the intestinal torsion incident.

Only this time, he wasn’t the only one serving as a backdrop; there was another—Director Yang with the bag day.

The Director of the Proctology Department took a sharp, cold breath. ”Is he really that skilled?”

”Believe it or not, it’s up to you.” Director Qian didn’t want to say any more.

At this point, the Director of the Proctology Department was out of options. After some thought, he had the attending Physician call the Traditional Chinese Medicine Internal Medicine Department to invite Du Heng for a consultation.

When Du Heng arrived and saw Director Qian was also there, he was momentarily unsure how to greet him.

However, the Director of the Proctology Department seemed to have had a change of mind. He took the initiative to greet Du Heng and then proactively made introductions, ”Deputy Director Du, Director Qian has been praising you extensively, saying you’re Hua Tuo reincarnated!

We’re facing a difficult problem right now, and we hope you can help us solve it.”

Du Heng looked at Director Qian with some surprise and returned a smile.

But Director Qian, with an air of haughtiness, turned his head away.

Du Heng turned back to the Director of the Proctology Department. ”Then let’s begin. I have Patients waiting for me as well.”

”Alright, alright. Deputy Director Du, please take a look at the Patient’s disease record first.” As soon as the Director of the Proctology Department finished speaking, the attending Physician handed the disease record to Du Heng.

Truth be told, the attending Physician had felt very awkward from the moment Du Heng entered the room.

He knew at a glance that he was definitely older than Du Heng.

Although they had different specialties, Du Heng had become a Deputy Director at such an age. Now, he was being invited for a consultation and treated like an expert. The attending Physician actually felt a bit resentful about this.

But Du Heng was now here to solve his problem, and he knew what had happened with Director Qian, so he didn’t overtly show his displeasure.

His attention, however, remained fixed on Du Heng.

But Du Heng was genuinely preoccupied with the young man from yesterday. So, from the moment he received the disease record, he focused entirely on it, paying no attention to the others.

Reading the other sections was fine, but when he saw the treatment record from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Colorectal Department, his expression changed slightly.

Am I about to offend someone?

But as a doctor, offending colleagues was sometimes inevitable because the Patient’s well-being had to be the top priority.

So, after a brief pause in thought, he continued reading.

The more he read, the deeper his brow furrowed.

According to the disease record, the Traditional Chinese Medicine Colorectal Department’s diagnosis—qi deficiency leading to impaired transport, and depleted stomach fluids failing to harmonize and descend—was fundamentally sound. The prescribed prescription, aimed at boosting qi, reversing adverse ascent, increasing fluids, and promoting qi circulation, was also appropriate for the diagnosis.

So, what was the problem?

Du Heng put down the disease record in his hand and turned to the Director of the Proctology Department. ”Let’s go and see the Patient.”

This was an expected and necessary step.

If Du Heng hadn’t gone to see the Patient and had instead directly stated how to treat, the Director of the Proctology Department would probably have thrown both Du Heng and Director Qian out.

As for why Director Qian would be thrown out, it was because Du Heng was his recommendation, and he couldn’t escape responsibility.

The Patient had not eaten for five days, was emaciated and frail, unable to sit or stand, experienced shortness of breath with any movement, and suffered from vomiting and abdominal pain.

The pulse was large but scattered on palpation; the tongue was red, particularly at the root, and dry.

After thoroughly examining everything, Du Heng had a plan. Then, the group returned to the office.

Upon reaching the office, Du Heng wasted no time. He quickly wrote out a prescription and handed it to the Director of the Proctology Department, ”One dose per day for two days. After that, you can continue treatment according to your methods.”

Du Heng’s confidence left the Director of the Proctology Department somewhat dumbfounded.

He took the prescription from Du Heng in a daze and began to read it.

The more he read, the more puzzled he became.

Then, he picked up the prescription issued by the Traditional Chinese Medicine Colorectal Department.

As he compared the two, the wrinkles on his face deepened. ”Deputy Director Du, are you sure you haven’t made a mistake?”

Du Heng chuckled softly. ”No mistake. This is the correct prescription.”

”But... but... these two prescriptions are identical!” The Director of the Proctology Department waved the papers in his hand. ”The Patient has been taking this for three days with no effect at all. And you...”

Du Heng raised an eyebrow. ”Director, take another look. Are they really identical?”

What did he mean?

The Director of the Proctology Department looked down again in confusion.

Meanwhile, Director Lv of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Colorectal Department couldn’t wait any longer and leaned over to look as well.

With just one glance, he spotted the difference.

His own prescription was Major Qi-Coordinating Decoction, a Verified Prescription for breaking stagnation and regulating qi. Du Heng hadn’t altered the structure of this prescription, but he had changed the dosage of two of the herbs.

This change in dosage, however, made Director Lv’s heart pound.

It was too potent!

Although the dosage he himself had used was lighter than in the original classic prescription—one hundred and twenty grams of rhubarbs and one hundred and fifty grams of magnolia—that amount was already quite significant for an Old man over sixty, especially one who had just undergone surgery.

Yet, the dosage Du Heng prescribed wasn’t just a restoration to the original classic dosage; it was even higher.

Du Heng had prescribed three hundred grams of rhubarbs and four hundred grams of magnolia.

Director Lv looked at Du Heng, bewildered, and slowly asked, ”Why?”
