This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

When Director Wu and the other two heard Du Heng say this, they were genuinely dumbfounded. They had previously thought that even if Du Heng wasn’t 100% confident, he should at least have had a thirty percent chance of success. But what did he mean by ’not very certain’? Even as bewildered as they were, Du Heng couldn’t give them a detailed explanation right then. Because he truly wasn’t sure.

「This uncertainty continued for three days.」

During these three days, Gu’s answer to everyone was identical to his initial response: he felt nothing.

At this point, after three days of waiting, people finally couldn’t hold back any longer and started making sarcastic remarks. Director Yang, in particular, who had previously suffered a setback because of Gu, became the main instigator spreading news about this.

”Director Niu, are you here to eat?”

”Yes, I’ve been busy all morning, so I’m rushing over for a bite. I’m so hungry my vision’s a bit blurry.” Director Niu, who was speaking, glanced at Director Yang at the Canteen entrance. ”Yang, getting takeout?”

Director Yang smacked his lips. ”That’s right. Taking it back. I can catch up on some reading during my meal break.”

Director Niu paused as he headed inside. ”Wow, Yang, since when did you become so studious?”

”Well, you live and learn, right?” Director Yang said with a feigned smile of modesty. ”They’ve come up with a new treatment method in the next department, and I can’t make heads or tails of it, so I have to study up. Director Niu, you go on and get your meal. Your food will get cold otherwise.”

However, Director Niu simply stopped in his tracks; the words ’new treatment method’ from the department next door had caught his attention.

”Wait, Yang, what new treatment method are you talking about? What’s it for? How come I haven’t heard anything?”

This was exactly what Director Yang had been waiting for. He immediately launched into an explanation, following Director Niu’s cue.

After his colorful description, he didn’t forget to add a summary, ”Sigh, these young people nowadays have so many tricks up their sleeves. It’s been three days, and I still haven’t figured out the reasoning behind it. Shameful, truly shameful.”

After listening, Director Niu gave Director Yang a peculiar look, then, quite unexpectedly, turned and walked away.

He left? Director Yang was stunned.

Shouldn’t he have shared his opinion with me? Shouldn’t he have condemned such an unreliable treatment? How could he just walk off without saying a word?

This Director Niu was not like-minded, which made him very uncomfortable. But the hospital was large, after all; he could always find a few colleagues he could talk to.

So, when Director Niu was returning after his meal, he once again saw Director Yang—the one who had claimed to be going back to study—still at the Canteen entrance, engrossed in a heated discussion with several others.

Director Niu chuckled softly. Ah, Yang... he’ll likely stay this way for the rest of his life. If he’d put a bit more of his mind into his profession, he wouldn’t have waited until his fifties to get a senior professional title.

”Yang, still haven’t gone back to study?” Director Niu walked over to the group and greeted them with a smile.

However, he didn’t want to stir up trouble in such a conspicuous place, so he intended to leave directly. But Director Yang was clearly worked up by now and pulled Director Niu over to talk.

”Director Niu, just now Zhang and the others were saying that treatment is folk witchcraft. It should be stopped; otherwise, if word gets out, it will be terrible for the hospital’s reputation. It should also be reported to the Medical Affairs Department, and a severe warning should be issued to this doctor who promotes superstition and damages the reputation of traditional Chinese medicine.”

Director Yang put on a look of feigned compassion. ”But I think criticism and education should suffice. We need to give young people room to grow. Director Niu, don’t you agree?”

Unaware of Du Heng? Director Niu thought. He was perfectly aware. His Nephrology Department had even received Du Heng’s help. How could he not know? Give Du Heng room to grow? How laughable that sounded. While he himself didn’t fully understand Du Heng’s treatment method, what was so strange about a doctor capable of solving difficult and complicated diseases using some peculiar techniques?

Looking at Director Yang’s expression, Director Niu chuckled. ”Director Yang, you’re still too soft-hearted. Even though I’m not a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, this kind of behavior is simply discrediting traditional Chinese medicine. I even feel bad for you, Director Yang. As a senior in the Chinese medicine field, you should take the initiative to step forward. You should denounce him, make him understand the severity of the matter, and ensure he profoundly recognizes his mistake. How about this, Director Yang? There’s a meeting tomorrow morning that we all have to attend, right? You can bring this matter up then, let the leadership hear about it too. What do you think? If you’re too embarrassed to speak, I can do it for you.”

Director Niu smiled faintly.

Using an iron to direct some heat... that method is indeed peculiar. But to slap a label of superstition on it? Heh, are they mad? Besides, it’s only been three days. To be so impatient, spreading it everywhere that the treatment is ineffective—that’s far too reckless.

Moreover, Du Heng has only been at the hospital for about two or three months. Yet, the patient volume in the Traditional Chinese Medicine Internal Medicine Department has multiplied several times over. It’s not just that it’s become the top department in the entire TCM Department; its numbers are almost double that of the second-ranked Chinese Medicine Cardiopulmonary Department. And Du Heng’s own emergency patient volume is the highest in his department. Furthermore, it’s not just about high patient volume; his patient satisfaction rate is second to none. His admission conversion rate is also the highest among all Departments of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
