This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Lan Changhua, seeing Du Heng hesitate to say ”I don’t know,” guessed what he was thinking and tentatively asked, ”Is it about your project?”

Upon hearing Lan Changhua’s question, Du Heng fell silent. After a long pause, he again said, ”I don’t know.” Then, he added hesitantly, ”But I guess they will most likely talk about this.”

Lan Changhua’s fingers, resting on his knee, tapped lightly. After a moment of thought, he said, ”It’s already past the beginning of May, so more than half the year is gone. They probably want to discuss things with you and confirm the plans for what comes next.”

Du Heng couldn’t help but frown slightly. ”Professor Lan, is it that urgent?”

”Yes,” Lan Changhua sighed softly. ”And very urgent.”

Hearing this, Du Heng’s ears perked up, eager to hear what Lan Changhua would say next. But Lan Changhua changed the subject, ”Forget it, let’s not make wild guesses here. You should go and talk to them in person. In any case, whatever it is, it will be a good thing for you.”

Du Heng felt a little disappointed.

But Lan Changhua was right; whatever they discussed, it couldn’t possibly be detrimental to him.

So Du Heng didn’t dwell on it. He found Cao Binghe, arranged his afternoon’s work, and then hurried to the School.

He had initially thought he would be talking to the head of his department at the Institute, but after finding Director Zhao from the Institute’s academic affairs office, he learned that the person who wanted to talk to him today was the School’s Principal.

Wang Pan was a not-so-tall, refined-looking middle-aged man. Though in his early fifties, he had a full head of hair, a ruddy complexion, and exuded great energy. Coupled with a well-maintained physique that hadn’t lost its shape, one would guess him to be in his forties at first glance.

Seeing Du Heng enter, Wang Pan greeted him with great enthusiasm. ”Mr. Du, you’re here! Come in, come in, please sit down.”

After Du Heng sat down, Wang Pan offered him a cigarette and then mentioned some excellent tea he had acquired from someone, inviting Du Heng to try it.

After some polite back-and-forth, the two finally settled down opposite each other.

”Mr. Du, you’ve been at the School for three months now. Are you adapting well to your work and life here?” Principal Wang began, expressing his concern.

Du Heng smiled. ”Thank you for your concern, Principal Wang. My colleagues and the leadership at the School have all taken great care of me. It feels like I’ve come home; there’s no issue with adapting.”

Principal Wang chuckled. ”That’s good, that’s good. Please, treat the School as your own home. Don’t hesitate to bring up any problems you encounter, whether in your personal life or at work. If we can solve them, we’ll do it immediately. If not, we’ll find a way to help you.”

What could Du Heng say in response? He could only express his gratitude repeatedly.

Afterward, Principal Wang inquired about various aspects of Du Heng’s life, including his family, with such thoroughness that Du Heng began to feel a little impatient.

However, Principal Wang was clearly a master of such pleasantries.

Just as Du Heng’s impatience was about to surface, Principal Wang deftly changed the subject to work, and Du Heng’s budding irritation instantly vanished.

”Mr. Du, what stage are your two current projects at?”

He didn’t beat around the bush; the question went straight to the heart of the matter.

Du Heng was momentarily thrown by this abrupt shift in conversation, his train of thought faltering slightly. ”They’re both progressing well, quite smoothly.”

Principal Wang nodded. ”Can one of the projects be completed before the end of this year?”

This is too direct, Du Heng thought, feeling the pressure. He unconsciously touched his chin. After a moment’s consideration, he decided to be direct as well, rather than beating around the bush.

”The pediatric cerebral hypoplasia project won’t be completed in the short term. We need to follow up with the pediatric patients who have received treatment for about one to two years to obtain relatively accurate data on their rehabilitation outcomes.”

Du Heng paused briefly before continuing, ”As for the stroke project, given our current progress, it could be concluded now. The initial goal of the project was to find treatments for post-stroke sequelae.

The project team has now systematically completed the classification of characteristics and the establishment of treatment plans for conditions arising from wind-phlegm surge blocking meridians. These conditions include wind-stroked tongue, wind-stroked face, qi deficiency wind-affected meridians, and blood deficiency stroke meridians.

To date, we have collected a total of 4,625 disease records. Each classification is supported by data from nearly 500 of these records.

We have now developed four Paralysis treatment formulas, three hemiplegia treatment formulas, and two facial paralysis treatment formulas. Additionally, we have one stroke-related aphasia Treatment formula, one Wind-Phlegm Convulsion Treatment Formula, and one Qi Confusion and Consciousness Disturbance Treatment Formula.

Moreover, each group of formulas is paired with a complete set of acupuncture and massage treatment methods.”

Principal Wang’s eyes lit up. ”Does this mean your team has completely overcome the challenges in treating post-stroke sequelae?”

Du Heng replied modestly, ”I wouldn’t claim 100%, perhaps closer to 90%.

Of the nearly 5,000 disease records we’ve handled, over 400 patients did not achieve full recovery. A very small number, in fact, showed no signs of improvement at all.

So, claiming it’s entirely conquered would be an overstatement.”
