This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”You mother and daughter are really something, always arguing when you see each other,” Ding Zhankui said, his tone particularly helpless. ”After your mom heard your news yesterday, she came over crying.

Yesterday, after your fight, when you fainted, your mom almost fainted too. But she was worried about you and was afraid of upsetting you further, so she went to take care of Tongtong and let me stay with you.

Do you know, your mom called me dozens of times last night, asking if you’d woken up. She was still calling me just before you woke up.”

Ding Zhankui’s tone was full of helplessness and fatigue. After a pause, he continued, ”Ever since you left home in anger, you didn’t call her or me. Even when I called, you wouldn’t pick up. Every time, your Mother would wipe her tears and scold you for being heartless.

But after scolding you, she’d always find various ways to learn about your situation.

Yuxue, can’t you see that Mother loves you?”

Ding Yuxue’s voice suddenly rose. ”Dad, I’m not heartless, and I’m not oblivious to Mother’s love for me. But her love is too controlling, too suffocating.”

She probably realized her emotions had become too intense as soon as she finished speaking. She controlled herself, took a deep breath, and after calming down a bit, continued, ”Let’s not even talk about my childhood. Just take my college entrance examination. I wanted to study art, but she insisted I study medicine.

If I didn’t listen, she’d act as if it were a matter of life and death.

Alright, I listened. But surely I could at least choose a major I was somewhat interested in, right?

No, that wasn’t allowed either. She forced me to study traditional Chinese medicine because you’re both practitioners.

Fine, I accepted that too. After graduation, I wanted to be a Doctor. That shouldn’t have been a problem, right?

Still no! I had to become a Teacher. Why? Because being a Teacher isn’t tiring, Teachers get Vacation, and Teachers don’t have as much responsibility.

She even caused a scene at the Hospital where I was interning, all to stop me from becoming a Doctor. She made me lose face in front of all my colleagues and patients, making everyone think I had a mother with a mental illness.”

As Ding Yuxue continued speaking, her emotions flared up again. However, she was now consciously trying to control herself, adjusting immediately when she felt herself getting carried away.

”Everything had to be done according to her ideas. In the end, she even wanted me to marry a man she approved of—a man I’d never met and certainly had no feelings for.

Dad, is this something a mother should do to her daughter?”

Ding Yuxue’s pointed question left Ding Zhankui speechless.

But Ding Yuxue pressed on relentlessly, ”And you! Every time my mom acted arbitrarily, you’d just try to smooth things over or conveniently disappear into the Hospital or School and not come out.

I couldn’t stand it. I really couldn’t stand the kind of love she has for me.”

Ding Yuxue suddenly laughed coldly. ”Last night was our first meeting in ten years, wasn’t it?

But did you see what she did?

She said that man she had her eye on for me still wasn’t married, and that now was the perfect time for me to marry him.

Dad, my husband just died! My son just barely survived acute kidney injury! I’m still lying on a bed in the Emergency Room, and she actually started trying to set me up with a man right then and there! Is that something a normal person would do?”

Ding Yuxue let out another cold laugh. ”So, I have to hide, hide far away from her.

Hide where she can’t find me, where she can no longer control me.

Dad, do you have any idea how liberating and comfortable these ten years have been for me? The sheer joy in my heart was enough to make me forget everything else!”
