This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”Director Du.”

”What brings you here?”

Du Heng frowned at the person before him. It was the young man he had diagnosed with a cold injury to the governor vessel and spinal cord neuroglioma.

This time, only his sister was with him; his brother-in-law wasn’t present.

Du Heng had just refused Cao Binghe. Now, without a word, he placed the lunchbox in his hand on Cao Binghe’s bowl and said to the young man and his sister, ”Come on, let’s go to my office.”

Although this family had doubted him before, as a doctor, how could he possibly turn away a patient who came to his door for help?

Sighing, Du Heng led the young man toward his office.

The young man and his sister were clearly a little embarrassed, especially the sister.

After Du Heng had them sit down, the sister said hesitantly, ”Doctor, I’m sorry for the trouble these past few days. We went home to raise money for my younger brother.”

Du Heng suddenly smiled. ”There’s nothing to be embarrassed about. Whether or not you want me to treat him is your right and your freedom. There’s no need to feel awkward.”

He then turned his gaze to the young man. ”So, have you raised enough money this time?”

The young man was rather sensitive; he didn’t seem as outwardly embarrassed as his sister, but his cheeks were exceptionally red.

However, Du Heng was surprised when the young man took a deep breath, looked at him earnestly, and said, ”Director Du, we did go to raise money, but we also went to another hospital for another check-up to confirm.”

Du Heng’s expression didn’t change. Instead, he asked in a tone that suggested this was to be expected, ”That’s understandable. What were the results of the check-up?”

At this question, the siblings’ expressions immediately fell. The sister even quietly gripped her brother’s hand and lowered her head, not saying a word.

Despite his dejection, the young man bravely raised his head and said to Du Heng, ”The result is the same as what you said, Director Du. It’s that... spinal cord neuroglioma.

The process was the same as at our hospital. They all told me the surgery is difficult and has a high likelihood of recurrence. They suggested I try conservative treatment with traditional Chinese medicine.”

After saying this, the young man took another deep breath. ”There’s a doctor in Hushang who recommended an anti-tumor medicine to me. He said it’s particularly effective and can actively inhibit and kill lesion cells.”

Du Heng’s eyebrows twitched slightly. ”So why didn’t you use it?”

The young man gave a bitter smile. ”The doctor said this medicine isn’t available in our country; I’d have to go abroad for treatment.

I searched online but couldn’t find the name of the medicine he mentioned. However, I did find the pharmaceutical company he spoke of. There was a news report saying they have a medicine that they’ve been trying to get approved for the market for five years, but it still hasn’t passed.”

The young man’s bitter smile deepened. ”Isn’t that just treating me like a guinea pig? How could I dare to try it?

Also, the doctor said the medicine can effectively inhibit and kill lesion cells. I still don’t understand, how does the medicine distinguish between lesion cells and normal cells?

If it could truly distinguish accurately between lesion cells and normal cells, wouldn’t that company’s stock price be the highest in the world by now? But it isn’t.”

Du Heng smiled; the young man had clearly given this a lot of thought.

After a brief pause, the young man continued slowly, ”If it can’t accurately distinguish between lesion and normal cells, then their medicine is just an indiscriminate cell killer.

There might be other methods to make the medicine effective only in specific locations, but it definitely wouldn’t *only* kill lesion cells.

Considering my tumor is on the spinal cord... even visible surgery is something most doctors are hesitant to perform. I don’t have the courage to try a medicine that might indiscriminately destroy cells.”

As soon as the young man finished, Du Heng said, ”Then what’s your purpose in coming to see me today? You should know that traditional Chinese medicine treatment is similar in form to the treatment with that new medicine you mentioned.

Throughout the entire process, we also can’t see what’s happening. The decoction medicine we use is also medication for the tumor.

You can’t see that either, so how can you be at ease?”

This time, the young man shook his head firmly. ”It’s different.”

”How is it different?”

”I’ve looked up your information online, Director Du. I found that you’ve successfully treated several tumor cases, including celebrities like Feng Su. So you must have experience in treating tumors and know how to do it without harming our bodies.”

The young man spoke earnestly, looking at Du Heng. ”Moreover, traditional Chinese medicine treatment emphasizes attacking the illness while simultaneously supporting the body. While treating the disease, it also does its best to nourish our bodies.

It’s not like that medicine I just mentioned, which just indiscriminately kills cells.

My understanding of that medicine is that once it’s ingested, it kills all cells indiscriminately, good or bad.

Since lesion cells are far fewer than normal cells, the lesion cells would presumably die off first.

Once the lesion cells are gone, their goal is achieved. As for what state the person’s body is left in, that’s not their concern, because they’re only responsible for the tumor treatment aspect.

I believe that’s the biggest difference between Chinese herbal medicine and that other medicine.”

Du Heng’s mouth twitched slightly. ”It seems you’ve really done your research.”

”It’s a matter of life and death, so I had to look into it.” The young man also smiled, but his smile was increasingly bitter.
