This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

The campus in May was almost covered in green. Although there were still some gray-black branches standing bare, they could no longer hold back the arrival of spring.

Under these trees, groups of students would gather at any time. They read books, chatted, and played with each other.

Du Heng and Wu Shengnan walked slowly, smiling at everything happening around them.

Feeling the essence of youth, they realized that they were no longer that young themselves.

”By the way, honey, let’s go see Tingting,” Wu Shengnan suggested after they had walked for a while. ”We can pick her up after her class and go out for some delicious food tonight. Tingting hasn’t had good food in a long time.”

Du Heng chuckled. ”I think you’re the one craving the food.”

Wu Shengnan didn’t respond, just smiled at Du Heng.

Of course, Du Heng didn’t mind.

During pregnancy, besides avoiding medication and indiscriminate supplements, one should eat whatever one can according to one’s physical condition.

As for Wu Shengnan, other than needing to eat less seafood, she had hardly any dietary restrictions.

However, two extreme groups of pregnant women had emerged recently.

One group felt they couldn’t eat anything—no spicy food, no seafood, no cold food.

The other group, perhaps to show their individuality or to be deliberately rebellious, would eat whatever they wanted, as much as they wanted. Whatever you told them they couldn’t eat, they would eat, and often in larger quantities.

Du Heng had encountered many pregnant women like this.

The first type, by avoiding too many foods, often led to malnutrition for both the mother and child. When they became anxious later on, they would seek supplements from both Western and traditional Chinese medicine.

The second type involved mothers who overate. They consumed food their bodies couldn’t handle, which prevented the fetus from absorbing nutrients, also leading to fetal malnourishment.

Both groups had a fundamental misunderstanding of the concept of ’dosage.’

Put simply, both sides were being ridiculously stubborn, gambling on whether or not something would go wrong.

Of course, Du Heng would never allow such things to happen to Wu Shengnan. As long as the ’quantity’ was under control, Wu Shengnan could eat whatever she wanted.

The couple strolled over to the classroom where Du Xueting had class. Ensuring not to disturb the ongoing lesson, they sneakily sat down in the last row.

Coincidentally, the class today was an emergency response class, not a traditional Chinese medicine course.

Even more coincidentally, Du Xueting and a few of her classmates were the ones demonstrating emergency response procedures with the teacher that day.

After Du Heng and Wu Shengnan settled in, the demonstration on stage began.

At first, Du Heng thought Du Xueting would play the role of someone experiencing cardiac arrest or fainting, since she had been acting rather shy and coy recently.

However, when the performance began, Du Heng was surprised. Du Xueting was not the ’patient’ but the patient’s companion.

”Help! Somebody, help! BOO HOO, my best friend isn’t breathing, she’s stopped breathing~~”

As her classmate suddenly lay down, Du Xueting immediately got into character, her voice laced with a tearful tone and even a long, sustained wail.

She threw herself onto her classmate’s body, crying dramatically, using her eyes and body language to express her urgent need for help.

At this point, several female classmates acting as Emergency Doctors stepped in. They pulled Du Xueting aside and began performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and artificial respiration on the ’fainted’ classmate.

Du Xueting’s performance was very convincing and dedicated. While pretending to cry, she said, ”Doctor, for CPR, you press with both hands interlocked. You’re pressing with your hands separately; my good sister can’t take that!”

The student playing the rescuer looked embarrassed and hastily adopted the correct position, interlocking her hands.

However, before she could make any moves, Du Xueting exclaimed, ”Doctor, this is an intersection! Look, a car is coming, and it’s about to run us over!”

The students playing rescuers were stunned. They quickly pretended to move the ’patient’ to a safe area, muttering, ”Moved to a safe area. We can begin the rescue now.”

But just as they were about to start, Du Xueting cried out again, ”Doctor, my good sister is still breathing, and her heart is beating! She doesn’t need CPR; she just fainted! She’s convulsing, foaming at the mouth, her eyes are rolling back, and we can’t wake her up!”

UGH... The students playing the doctors were stumped. The patient was still breathing and had a heartbeat. How were they supposed to perform a rescue now?

They all looked helplessly at their teacher.

The teacher glared at Du Xueting and then looked speechlessly at the ’innocent’ students.

”I told you in the last class: before performing an emergency rescue, first, confirm if the environment is safe; second, determine if the patient is conscious; third, check if the patient is still breathing.

Only after confirming all three points can you perform the appropriate rescue based on the patient’s specific situation.

And you all just started CPR without checking anything! You needed Du Xueting to constantly remind you. What were you thinking?”

The teacher gestured. ”Start again. This time, remember all the steps and don’t make any mistakes.”

With that, everyone separated and started over.

This time, the students playing doctors and nurses finally remembered the steps and followed all the procedures the teacher had taught.

Du Xueting also stopped making trouble and just pretended to sob by the side.

After they announced the patient was unconscious, not breathing, and had no heartbeat, the students were finally ready to perform the CPR they had prepared for.

But as soon as they started, Du Xueting cried out, ”Doctor, my sister’s heart is on the left! You’re pressing her stomach; that’s too low! WAHHH! My poor sister, they can’t save you! Why are you so unlucky~~~”

As soon as Du Xueting spoke, the student performing CPR became flustered. Wiping her sweat, she quickly tried to find the correct position for the heart.

But after a short while, Du Xueting started wailing again, ”My sister, it’s been three minutes! She’s getting cold! Doctor at the front, you can give my sister artificial respiration too!”

”Oh, right!” The student at the front immediately understood it was her turn to give breaths.

But just as she gave two breaths, Du Xueting spoke again, ”Doctor~~ My sister has a piece of fried dough stuck in her throat~~ And she just got a full set of new dentures today; don’t blow them out!”

”Sister, it’s been five minutes, you’re already stiff~~~ These doctors can’t save you~~~”

Du Xueting’s running commentary made the students playing doctors on stage sweat profusely. By the end, they were so flustered they hardly knew what they were supposed to be doing.

The audience below erupted in laughter.

Seeing the bewildered students, the teacher could only reluctantly wave her hand for them to stop. She then turned to Du Xueting, ”Du Xueting, you seem to be very familiar with emergency rescue procedures?”

At this, Du Xueting reverted to being a well-behaved girl. ”Yes. I started interning at the Health Clinic, the Maternal and Child Hospital, and other hospitals last winter vacation. I’ve done all sorts of tasks, so I’ve participated in emergency rescues too.”

”Excellent. Practice is the best teacher. Experience something like that just once, and you’ll remember what you need to know.”

The teacher then turned to the other students. ”Now, as for the rest of you. You’ve forgotten all the procedures and methods I taught. If you encountered a real emergency right now, do you, as medical students, believe you’re qualified to step up and help?”

At this, one of the girls said resentfully, ”We had rehearsed it perfectly. But when Du Xueting started crying and carrying on, we got nervous and forgot everything. If she hadn’t interfered, we definitely wouldn’t have made any mistakes!”
