This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”Thank you, doctor. I’ll go back first.” The young man picked up his computer and left without looking back after expressing his gratitude.

Watching the young man leave, the resident doctor sighed with a sense of helplessness.

The young man didn’t understand the concept of spinal glioma and neuroglial tumors, or what it meant when combined. But the resident doctor did.

As a resident doctor at Hao Pengyou Hospital, his diagnostic skills might be immature, but he was definitely not lacking in knowledge reserves. That was why he could stay in the Capital and work at a hospital like Hao Pengyou Hospital.

Once the young man’s figure disappeared, the resident doctor turned to Du Heng and asked softly, ”Director, you’re also an expert in tumor treatment, and you’ve successfully treated several tumor patients. Since you could cure malignant lymphoma, you should be able to cure this one, right?”

He asked Du Heng hopefully, expecting Du Heng to nod firmly and give him an inspiring answer. But all that came was a slow shake of Du Heng’s head.

”It’s different this time,” Du Heng said slowly. ”The governor vessel is the convergence of all Yang meridians. It originates from the lower abdomen, descends, goes around from behind along the spine, and ascends to the Baihui (GV20) on the top of the head. So now, this tumor must be caused by blocked meridians due to the accumulation of damp phlegm and dead blood.”

Du Heng watched the young man walk away, then leaned back in his chair, his hands crossed over his lower abdomen. My approach to treating tumors is first to break the tumor barrier, shatter and disperse the accumulated pus, phlegm, and dead blood, and then forcefully drive this filth out. At first glance, this approach seems to hold true and be effective for the current situation.

Du Heng looked earnestly at the resident doctor. But you’ve overlooked one thing: to shatter and disperse the mass formed by accumulated pus, phlegm, and dead blood, I used many bitter, cold, detoxifying, drastic medicines. As I just mentioned, the disease is in the governor vessel, and only cold evil can affect it. If I were to use those bitter, cold, detoxifying medicines, it wouldn’t be like extinguishing a fire with water, but rather pouring oil on the fire.

The resident doctor clearly understood Du Heng’s words and immediately showed a look of disappointment. However, he then asked with newfound hope, ”Director, since you were able to formulate the previous prescription, can’t you formulate a new one suitable for this patient based on his condition?”

Du Heng looked troubled. After a long pause, he finally said, It’s hard, very hard. This time the disease is in the spinal cord. The spinal cord is the communication pathway between brain tissue and peripheral nerves, containing a large amount of cerebrospinal fluid, nerve bundles, cells, and other things. These are all very delicate structures. Even if I can change the prescription, to shatter and disperse the tumor congealed from damp phlegm and dead blood, I still need to use those aggressive and overpowering drugs. And once those drastic medicines are used and reach the lesion, what impact will they have on the spinal cord and the nerves within it?

Saying this, Du Heng immediately shook his head. There’s no need to think about it; there will definitely be an impact. Whether this impact is large or small is not easy to control. If these nerves and cells are damaged, the patient might end up with paralysis before the tumor is entirely removed.

Hearing that Du Heng also had no solution, the resident doctor was thoroughly disheartened and mumbled, ”Then the only option is surgery.”

Du Heng glanced at the image on the computer screen and also mumbled, I’m afraid that’s going to be difficult too.

He had thought it was a minor issue, or perhaps even just some gossip, but he hadn’t expected to uncover a ticking bomb. This weighed heavily on Du Heng’s mood.

However, he wouldn’t bring this bad mood home. Right now, nothing was more important than his wife. Everything had to revolve around her.

As the days went by, his wife’s belly grew larger, and her workload increased. The Department didn’t let her stay home and rest just because she was pregnant; she still had to attend her work assignments. However, the Department was relatively humane. They didn’t assign Wu Shengnan any business trips; she just spent every day with her Teacher, constantly reviewing case files and attending meetings.

Sometimes, Du Heng couldn’t understand why there were suddenly so many major cases around him. But these thoughts were fleeting, and he didn’t dwell on them.

There was no way to figure it out. It was like his work as a Doctor: outsiders wouldn’t realize how many sick people he saw who were on the verge of dying. But for Du Heng, working as a Doctor, he hardly ever saw anyone he considered truly healthy.

His mind wandered, and by the time he regained focus, he had already arrived home.

”Baby, Wife, darling, I’m home!”

Du Heng opened the door and changed his shoes. The smell of a meal cooking wafted from the living room, and he immediately started with the sweet talk. But as soon as he finished speaking, he heard someone behind him. Turning, he saw Wu Shengnan. Hearing the clanging of cookware from the kitchen, Du Heng paused. ”Who’s cooking in the kitchen?”

”Sister-in-law is here.” Wu Shengnan seemed particularly happy. She took the Bag from Du Heng’s hand while giggling and pointing to the corner. ”Look, she brought so many delicious things from home!”

Du Heng glanced at the corner and saw fertilizer bags, luggage bags, and several large plastic bags, all stuffed full. He immediately put on his slippers and headed to the kitchen.
